The Rolling Stones' most recent studio album, "A Bigger Bang," has sold 500,000 in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan, across 26 weeks. Released in September 2005, the Virgin album debuted at No. 3 on The Billboard 200.

While half a million copies of an album isn't quite flop status, it's not exactly a great number, either. The Stones' previous studio album, 1997's "Bridges To Babylon," has sold 1.2 million. In "Bridges'" first 26 weeks of availability, it moved 985,000 units.
As it was certified platinum back in November, 500k seems disappointing. It's a single disc album isn't?
I was "that" guy.
ABB got a re-release with DVD back on November, maybe it shipped Platinum counting both releases.

ABB was actually certified platinum Oct 11th 2005, just 5 weeks after release, and about 6 weeks prior to the release of the special edition (Nov 22th 2005).

5 months after platinum certification it has scanned just 500k :o Sure seems like it was 'over-shipped'.

Thanks.

So what is the title called in US when it was called "The Rolling Stone No. 2" in UK which sold 650,000?

England's Newest Hit Makers was never issued in the UK.

Before Their Satanic Majesties Requests, Albums in the US were completely different to the UK - even if they had the same title, the tracks were totally different.

The first 2 UK albums were

The Rolling Stones
The Rolling Stones No.2

They were never issued in the US and have never been released on CD.

You're right, It disappeared from RIAA's site. :o
The certification of EOMS was something weird, it went platinum on 2000. In 2004, a 3x Platinum certification appeared on the database (certification date: May31, 2000) :-?
Now its gone again.

Nice update for UK sales of '40 Licks' in this weeks MusicWeek :

"Originally released in 2002, The Rolling Stones' hit-laden and digitally remastered Forty Licks compilation is back ahead of the UK leg of their world tour, and aimed at the Father's Day market. Absent from the Top 75 for 140 weeks, it re-enters the list this week at number 23 on sales of 9,768, lifting its cume to 945,343, Forty Licks spent its first three weeks in the chart at number two, behind first Elvis Presley's 30 Number One Hits, then (for a fortnight) Will Young's From Now On."

945,343 means it should now be 3xPlatinum ! 8-) :D

Fully agree. By the way, this week "Forty licks" is at number 11 (last week it was number 19). :D I think this albums is over 1 million copies in UK with club sales and the last 2 weeks.

Great News that ! :D & would've sold maybe 26k (# 12 album sold 25,782). Just a slight shame it didn't hit the top 10.

Over the counter sales for '40 Licks' in the UK went over 1m last week : it sold 8,887 at # 29 to take it's cume to 1,003,040. This is the 100th artist album of the 21st century to sell over 1m & amazingly this is the 1st Stones album to achieve this feat (according to MusicWeek). Just shows how small album sales must have been back in the 60's/70's.

Hello,
Yes, 'Forty Licks', is the first Rolling Stones Album to reach 1 Million UK Sales. Ironically it was one of their 9 Number 2 Albums, and has sold more than any of their 10 Number 1 Albums.

They have had 34 Top 10 Albums in the UK - 29 of them in the Top 5. Added together their UK Album Sales would make them one of the Top 20 All Time UK Album Acts - maybe even in the Top 10.

However, none of their Albums has sold enough to be in the Top 100 Best Selling UK Albums List, which Alan Jones has compiled, and which will - hopefully - be revealed in either late July, or in August.

In the February 2004, All Time UK Singles Acts List, they were the 12th Best Sellers. However, none of their Singles had sold enough to make the November 2002 Top 100 UK Singles List - nor did any by Madonna, ABBA, & The Bee Gees.

However, ABBA, & Madonna, will have Albums in the Top 100 Best Selling UK Albums List - as will The Bee Gees IF we count, 'Saturday Night Fever', as a Bee Gees Album - I am assuming that its Sales are enough to get it into the Top 100.

The Rolling Stones will have had no Singles in the 2002 Top 100 Best Sellers, & no Albums in the 2006 Top 100 Best Sellers - none of their individual Records sold enough to make either List. However - as I said - with 34 Top 10 Albums, they would certainly be very high, in a List of the Top 100 UK Album Acts.....
