THE JAPANESE 'ABBA 40/40' DOUBLE ALBUM - NOW TO BE GLOBAL???

LINKS:

https://goo.gl/5wgYGf

http://www.superdeluxeedition.com/news/ ... selection/

In 2014, Universal asked Japanese ABBA Fans to Vote on which ABBA
Songs should be on a Japanese Double Album - '40/40 - The Best Selection'.
Unfortunately, 'The Day Before You Came' was not given enough Votes to be
included. (I hated 'The Day Before You Came' in 1982, but now I love it).

Anyhow, the UK Amazon Site is now saying that it is to be released in the
UK on Wednesday December 6th. If it is true, I do hope for 2 things. It is
too expensive, for a start - £41.99. (The Carpenters '40/40' Album is sold
for less than £9 & Amazon sell the 51 Track Triple Queen CD, ('The Platinum
Collection') for just £12.99. So, the ABBA '40/40' Set is very over-priced.

Secondly, it really must have 'The Day Before You Came' on it. It is easy
to choose which Track to 'dump' - 'She's My Kind Of Girl'. It is not very good,
& it is not even a true ABBA Track. It has no place on '40/40'. The Japanese
only Voted for it because it sold 500,000 there as a Single.....It is a 1970
Benny & Bjorn Single, with no Agnetha & Frida on it, & it was a 1972 Hit
in Japan. It ought not to be on any ABBA Album.

It was ridiculous that it was included on the 'B' Sides Disk of the '40th Anniversary'
ABBA Gold, that was released in 2014. OK, it was the 'B' Side of the English Language
version of 'Ring Ring' in Sweden, but it is still not an ABBA Track & there are plenty of
ABBA 'B' Sides that should have replaced it - proper ABBA Tracks. (Amazon are selling
that 59 Track, 3 CD 'ABBA Gold' for £21.99 - so the 40 Track '40/40' CD should not be
selling for £41.99 - if it is to be released in the UK etc.).

TO TIE IN WITH THE LONDON EXHIBITION?

Is '40/40' being released in the UK on Wednesday 6th December, to tie in with
the opening of the London 'ABBA Exhibition' on Thursday 14th December?

By being at No.39 in this Week's UK Album Chart, (W/E 2nd November 2017),
'ABBA Gold' becomes only the 5th Album to reach 230, (or more), Weeks in
the UK Top 40. It is only the 3rd Artist Album to reach 230 Top 40 Weeks

1... The Sound Of Music -- (Soundtrack) -- (1965) -- 347 Top 40 Weeks
2... South Pacific -- (Soundtrack) -- (1958) -- 313 Top 40 Weeks

4... Meatloaf -- Bat Out Of Hell -- (1977) -- 249 Top 40 Weeks
5... ABBA -- Gold -- (1992) -- 230 Top 40 Weeks

It is 'ABBA Gold's 534th Top 75 Week & 808th Top 100 Week.

It is ABBA's 614th Top 40 Week & 1103rd Top 75 Week.

It now looks like the December release of '40/40 - The Best Selection' is just going to be released in Japan.

Apparently it is just a lower priced Japanese re-issue of the Double 2014 CD.

So it is not getting an International release after all.

As the 40 Track Set does not have 'The Day Before You Came' on it, it is a flawed release anyhow.

Especially as 'She's My Kind Of Girl' is on it, when that is a 1969 recording, by just Benny & Bjorn,
that was a Japanese Hit in 1972. It is not really an ABBA Track. Neither Agnetha nor Frida are on it.
Even though ABBA put it on the 'Ring Ring' Album, it is not an ABBA Song really.

Well I can do with that pointless release....

The Definitive Collection and The Essential Collection were both obsessed with tracks being singles - even if not very big or not very good eg.Love Isn't Easy, He is Your Brother, That's Me, The Visitors. No place for Our Last Summer or Slipping Through My Fingers.

I wonder if a re-vamped More Gold will be released when Mamma Mia 2 comes out.

So far - it looks like most of the 'Mamma Mia! 2' Film will be based on the Tracks on 'More ABBA Gold'.

When the 1st 'Mamma Mia!' Film was released, in 2008, Universal re-promoted 'ABBA Gold', which
went back into the UK Top 10 for 9 more Weeks, & to No.1 for 2 Weeks. But they did not re-promote
'More ABBA Gold', which is why that CD only re-Charted to No.63, (for 2 Weeks), in 2008.

At first The OCC regarded the 2008 'More ABBA Gold' as a different Album than the CD that reached
No.14 in 1993 & No.13 in 1999. It took me a while to persuade them to include the 2008 Chart Run in
its previous Chart Run.

I'm sure that Universal will make far more effort to re-promote 'More ABBA Gold', in 2018, than they
did in 2008. After all, a lot of the Songs on it will be in the 2018 Film. Hopefully, they will be using 1978's
'Summer Night City' in Film 2, which, (with 'Angel Eyes'), is ABBA's only UK Top 10 Hit not to be on 'Gold',
but it is on 'More Gold'.

As regards 'ABBA Gold' Songs, we will have 'Knowing Me, Knowing You' in Film 2, which is their 2nd biggest
UK Single, after 'Dancing Queen'. We will also have 'Fernando' in it, which is 2nd only to 'Dancing Queen' in
their Global Singles Hits. I'm sure that they will also find a place for 'One Of Us' in Film 2. No doubt, all, or part,
of 'Mamma Mia' will also be used in Film 2, seeing as it is in the Title. So that will mean that all 19 of ABBA's UK
Top 10 Singles will have been used in Film 1 or Film 2. (20 UK Top 10 Tracks, with 'Angel Eyes'//'Voulez-Vous' being
a UK Double 'A' Side).

'ABBA Gold' has fallen from No.57 to No.62 in today's UK Album Chart - W/E 16th November 2017.
It sold about 1,700 copies to be at No.62. (It has fallen from No.43 to No.52 in the Sales Album
Chart, which used to be the 'Official' Chart, until The OCC started the current Album Chart, in which
Streaming & Downloads are also added in. ABBA are at a disadvantage, as they are not big in either
of the new factors - certainly not with Streaming).

'The Album' is not in the 'Main', ('Official'), Top 100 Albums. It was at No.89 in Monday's Mid Week Chart.
It is a New Entry in the Sales Chart - at No.88. It can't have sold many copies, as it has only managed to
enter at No.26 in the Vinyl Album Chart, & Sales in that Chart are rarely big. (The Vinyl 'ABBA Gold' went
in at No.4 in the Vinyl Chart, earlier in 2017).

In the Vinyl Singles Chart, 'Eagle' is in at No.2, 'The Name Of The Game' is in at No.3, & 'Take A Chance On Me'
is in at No.4. They are beaten by 'Oh, Pretty Woman', by Roy Orbison, which is in at No.1. The same Top 4 Vinyl
Singles are New Entries in the 'Physical' Singles Chart. However, as CD Singles no longer exist, Vinyl Singles only
need to sell a few 100 copies, to enter in those Charts. The Vinyl 'Dancing Queen' is a re-entry, at No.59, in the
Physical Singles Chart. It is its 17th Week in that Top 60, and it Peaked at No.4. 'Knowing Me, Knowing You' is a
re-entry at No.88, in its 18th Chart Week. That Peaked at No.5 in that Chart. 'Fernando' Peaked at No.2 in that
Chart & it is a New Entry at No.90, in its 17th Chart Week.

'EAGLE' - It is the 1st time that 'Eagle' has been in any UK Singles Charts. This is - of course - due to Epic Records not
releasing it, in the UK, (or Ireland), in 1978. It would have easily been another UK Top 5 Hit for ABBA. (In Ireland too).

'I've Been Waiting For You' is also to be included in 'Mamma Mia 2'. Ever since I first heard it, on the 'B' Side of
'So Long', (1974), I've loved that Song. I like the 'Fade In' Intro & Agnetha's lovely lead vocals. It is good, that so
many lesser known ABBA Songs, are going to be heard, by a much wider audience, in 'Mamma Mia 2'.

Also - part of 'Thank You For The Music' is to be included.
