Four "best of" compilations are in today's global iTunes album top 10 - Bob Marley's "Legend", "1" by the Beatles, "Hits" by Phil Collins and ABBA's "Gold", the latter at number 8. In Europe, "Gold" is even at number two, behind Marley's "Legend".

In the all-time "Worldwide iTunes Album Chart", ABBA Gold is currently at number 5:

1 Adele - 21 21,950,053 pts
2 Daft Punk - Random Access Memories 9,184,521 pts
3 Coldplay - Mylo Xyloto 9,116,414 pts
4 Bruno Mars - Unorthodox Jukebox 8,360,374 pts
5 ABBA - ABBA Gold 8,060,028 pts
6 The Beatles - 1 7,023,008 pts
7 Imagine Dragons - Night Visions 6,864,325 pts
8 David Guetta - Nothing But the Beat Ultimate 6,761,402 pts
9 David Guetta - Nothing But the Beat 6,708,214 pts
10 Coldplay - Ghost Stories 500 6,705,331 pts

Due to the different spelling of the album, "ABBA Gold" can also be found at three further positions further down the list:

845 ABBA - Gold: Greatest Hits 341,440 pts
3618 ABBA - ABBA Gold - Greatest Hits 91,178
3769 ABBA - ABBA: Gold - Greatest Hits 87,448

So it's real total is not 8,060,028 but 8,580,096 points.

UK Albums Chart

Alan Jones wrote:Bob Marley & The Wailers' classic 1984 compilation Legend was front page on iTunes all week, with a £6.99 price tag, hence its 54-16 move (3,876 sales). Number one for 12 weeks in 1984, it has now spent 452 weeks in the Top 75, moving ahead of Queen's Greatest Hits (451 weeks), which was just 19 sales outside the Top 75 itself this week, climbing 82-76 (1,289 sales). The only albums now to have a longer run in the Top 75 than Legend are Abba's Gold: Greatest Hits, which jumps 76-50 (1,751 sales) to achieve its 481st week in the Top 75 and Meat Loaf's Bat Out Of Hell (454 weeks). Bat Out Of Hell would be much further ahead but because it has a reduced dealer price it is currently exiled in the budget album chart, where it climbs 6-3 (1,692 sales) this week.

UK -- ABBA Gold falls from No.50 to No.53 in its 482nd Top 75 Week & 716th Top 100 Week

(The OCC give it 714 Top 100 Weeks. They miss out a No.77 Week in 1993 & a No.77 Week in 1994)

Ireland -- Gold rises from No.36 to No.17. It is its 653rd Top 100 Week

18 Hits falls from No.58 to No.70 in its 87th Week in the Irish Top 100

Austria -- Gold rises from No.43 to No.28. It is its 259th Top 75 Week there

Sweden -- Gold rises from No.25 to No.10 in its 152nd Week in the Top 60

The No.10 Position gives it 51 Points, which enables it to rise from 4th to 3rd place
in the All Time Swedish Album Top 100, with 4983 Points. It overtakes 21 by Adele,
which falls from 3rd to 4th place with 4967 Points. (Gold would be 1st in the All Time
Swedish List, but it lost a lot of Points due to the Swedish Charts only being every 2
Weeks for 'Gold's first 14 Chart Weeks. So it lost 14 Weeks of Points.).

Switzerland -- Gold rises from No.83 to No.57. It is its 365th Week in the Swiss Top 100. It is
the biggest scoring Album since the 'Official' Swiss Album Charts began in November 1983.
It has 15,089 Points. (But there were Swiss Album Charts before November 1983 & ABBA
did very well in them).

Some 'New' releases from Frida.

I've always liked 'Slowly' which is a Benny & Bjorn song. I wish that ABBA
had recorded it.

Wow! This is awesome! Isnt it? An album which was released 2 yrs ago makes a huge splash back at the top! Very nice indeed. I hope the documentary is being played in other european regions for further exposure.

This was the first of three consecutive number ones and the beginning of an extraordinary chart success:

Australian number ones 1975 & 1976

So ABBA Had 6 Australian No.1 Singles from 1975 to 1976, with 42 Weeks at No.1 between them.

However, even as ABBA Toured Australia in early 1977 much of the huge interest in them was fading for them there.

Knowing Me, Knowing You only reached No.9 & Chiquitita was their only Top 5 Single there after 1976.

Arrival was their last Top 3 Album there until Gold reached No.1 in 1992.

So their Australian success was huge, but after 1976 they did not become big there again until 1992.

They were hugely successful, over a longer period, in the UK, Ireland, Germany & much of the rest of Europe.

Channel 5 in the UK is creating an ABBA TV Documentary based around the UK's Top 20 favourite ABBA Songs.

It will be shown in 2016.

You can Vote for your favourite 20 ABBA Songs via the Link on the Waterloo Radio Site.

Actually - Channel 5 has chosen the 20 Songs. ABBA Fans can simply Vote for them in the order that
they like them. Thankfully The Day Before You Came is 1 of the 20, even though it only reached No.32
in the UK. Thank You For The Music is also included & that only reached No.33 here.

Just follow the Link above the Channel 5 Symbol - the one with the White 5 in a Maroon circle:,

1)... To my surprise ITV1 are devoting 1 Hour & 15 Minutes to an 'ABBA's Christmas Party' on Christmas Eve.

Thursday 24th December -- Christmas Eve

It is on ITV1 from 8.30 pm to 9.45 pm, (20.30 to 21.45) & on ITV2 from 9.30 pm to 10.45 pm, (21.30 to 22.45)

Bjorn is one of the guests. (I'm not sure if any of the ABBA Members will be interviewed in it).

The plus side is that it promotes ABBA. The minus side is the Guest List! A lot of them are 'has-beens',
who Won or took part in 'The X Factor', & can no longer sell Records. Susan Boyle is in it too, but she
only sells a fraction of the Albums that she was selling in 2009 & 2010. So the Guest List is pretty weak.

Here is how ITV describe the 'Show':,

"The festive holiday season will be celebrated in distinctly Swedish style this Christmas Eve with The ABBA Christmas Party.

Stars from across music and TV will be performing their favourite ABBA song and sharing personal ABBA memories set in a very special Scandinavian Christmas lodge, as ITV celebrates 41 years since the release of the band’s Greatest Hits album.

In an exclusive interview, Bjorn Ulvaeus will talk about his own ABBA memories while confirmed guests including Alexandra Burke, Scouting for Girls, Shayne Ward and Catherine Tyledsley, Susan Boyle and the cast of Mamma Mia will be performing hits including Super Trouper, I Have a Dream and Dancing Queen to get the live studio audience dancing on their feet to kick off the Yuletide festivities".

NOTE -- Apparently Catherine Tyledsley is from the UK Soap Opera 'Coronation Street', as is Shayne Ward, now that
he can no longer sell Records.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

2)... Channel 5 are showing a few ABBA TV Shows over 'The Christmas Period'

Saturday 19th December -- Midnight until 1.10 AM - 12.00 - ABBA : Live in Concert

Friday 25th December -- Christmas Day

9.40 pm -- Midnight (21.40 to 00.00) -- Britain's Favourite ABBA Songs - Sing-a-Long Christmas Day

Saturday 26th December -- Boxing Day

1.15 am - 2.30 am -- ABBA : Live in Concert

(So that one starts just 1 Hour & 15 Minutes after the Christmas Day ABBA 'Show' ends).

The UK's Christmas TV Magazines are now on sale.

There is far more ABBA on UK TV over Christmas & New Year than I anticipated.

They get far more TV over the 'Holiday Season' than any other Act.

Most have them have been on before & several are on more than once over Christmas,
but the point is that they promote ABBA, & that is all that should be relevant.

Queen get some Christmas//New Year TV & so do Elvis Presley, The Beatles & Adele, but not as much as ABBA.

Here are the full ABBA TV Listings:,

1)... Britain's Favourite ABBA Song -- Channel 5 -- Saturday 19th December -- 10.30 pm to 11.50 pm.

2)... ABBA Live In Concert -- Channel 5 -- Saturday 19th December -- 11.55 pm to 1.10 am.

3)... ABBA : When Four Became One -- Sky Arts -- Monday 21st December -- 8 pm to 9 pm.

4)... ABBA - The Movie -- Sky Arts -- Monday 21st December -- 9 pm to 10.50 pm.

5)... ABBA : Dancing Queen -- Sky Arts -- Monday 21st December -- 10.50 pm to 11.50 pm.

6)... 'Mamma Mia!' (Film) -- ITV 3 -- Wednesday 23rd December -- 8 pm to 10 pm.

7)... ABBA - The Movie -- Sky Arts -- Wednesday 23rd December -- 10.30 pm to 12.20 am.

8)... ABBA : When Four Became One -- Sky Arts -- Wednesday 23rd December -- 12.20 am to 1.20 am.

9)... ABBA : Dancing Queen -- Sky Arts -- Wednesday 23rd December -- 1.20 am to 2.20 am.

11)... The ABBA Christmas Party -- ITV 1 -- Christmas Eve -- Thursday 24th December -- 8.30 pm to 9.45 pm.

(Repeated on ITV 1 +1 from 9.30 pm to 10.45 pm).
