As ABBA Gold is back in the latest UK Album Top 75 - W/E 17th December 2015.

Here are some of its current UK Chart Statistics:,

1)... It now has its 494th Top 75 Week -- The most by any Album.

2)... It has had 732 Top 100 Weeks -- The most by any Album. (The OCC say 730 Weeks,
but they miss out 2 No.77 Weeks - one in 1993 & one in 1994).

3)... The latest UK Album Chart, (W/E 17th December 2015), is its 1,100th Top 200 Week.
(Which is the 3rd most ever - beaten by Greatest Hits, (One), by Queen - over 1,200, & Legend
by Bob Marley & The Wailers - 1,167. But, they were released well before ABBA Gold - 1981
& 1984 respectively).

4)... ABBA Gold has had 217 Top 40 Weeks -- The most for any Album by a Group.

In today's UK Album Chart the No.59 Album sold 4,193 copies to be at that Position.

Which means that ABBA Gold sold at least 4,000 copies to be at No.60. (Rising from No.74).

It looks like it will be in 2015's Top 100 UK Best Sellers, when they are revealed in January.

It will be the 14th Year that it has been in the Top 100 Best Sellers & its 1st time since 2010.

It was the 106th UK Best Seller for 2014.

Gold was #85 in the YTD best-selling albums list last week down from #84 the week before and #82 the week prior to that.

Wayne -- Thanks for that information.

9. Take a chance on me
Last night, Channel 5, (UK TV), revealed the results of their Poll,
to find Britain's Favourite ABBA Songs.

I Voted in the ABBA Poll for the TV 'Show', but I did not watch it.

A Top 20 was compiled from the Votes & the Top 10 was:,

1)... The Winner Takes it All
2)... Dancing Queen
3)... The Day before you Came
4)... One Of Us
5)... Knowing Me Knowing You
6)... Fernando
7)... Waterloo
8)... Summer Night City
9)... Take A Chance On Me
10)... I Have A Dream

There is a 'lively debate' about it on the Digital Spy Forum's Site:,

LINK:,

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=2123993

Someone has pointed out, (Digital Spy), that Epic Records actually did quite
a large Advert, for 'One Of Us', in the 'Daily Mirror', in 1981. To do that, in a
National Newspaper - for a Single - was unheard of. It was usually done for
Albums. Epic's 'One Of Us' Advert would have been very expensive. They must
have been worried about the effect on ABBA's UK popularity, due to the Group
taking nearly all of 1981 to release anything new.....They must have been very
disappointed when the Single 'only' reached No.3. But it did sell as many as a lot
of No.1 Hits - just over 500,000.

With regards to 'The Day Before You Came' coming 3rd in the Channel 5 TV Poll...

I realise that it only reached No.32 in the UK, in 1982, & that it has now become
a 'Classic' with a great many ABBA Fans.

I read extensively - many things - and I can say that it is highly thought of by many people
in the UK Media etc. I know people in the UK 'Music Industry', who are not ABBA Fans, but
they think that Track is the best thing that ABBA ever did.

'New Musical Express' never regarded ABBA as being great, for much of their Years together,
but did say that 'The Day Before You Came' should have been a UK No.1. (It now has a lot of
respect for ABBA).

I hated 'The Day Before You Came' in 1982. I could not understand it. I even rang Epic Records
& asked if they could make 'Cassandra' the 'A' Side instead. They told me that they would certainly
not be doing that, & that the 'A' Side was going to be a big Hit here.

However, I now adore the song & I wish that it could have been a Top 10 Hit in the UK.

It is interesting that with both 'Summer Night City' & 'The Day Before You Came' in the
Top 10, that neither were on 'ABBA Gold', as there was no room for them there. So they
were 'relegated' to 'More Gold'.

Last night the UK Channel ITV 1 showed The ABBA Christmas Party.

Many of the guests on it were D-List, (some were even Z-List).

It was awful, as several of the guests made a mess of trying to sing ABBA songs.

However - It has caused a rise in the Sales of 'ABBA Gold' in the UK, & of the triple
CD of 'Gold' from 2014.

Soon 'ABBA Gold' will become the 1st Album - ever - to reach 500 Top 75 Weeks in the UK.

Today's Christmas Day Album Chart will see 'ABBA Gold' reach its 496th Top 75 Week, its
732nd Top 100 Week, & its 1102nd Top 200 Week. (It's 734th Top 200 Week, if The OCC had
not missed out 2 No.77 Positions for it - one in 1993 & one in 1994).

'ABBA Gold's Top 75 & Top 100 Weeks are 'All Time Chart Records'. Its Top 200 Weeks are
the 3rd most ever. Beaten by 'Greatest Hits' (One) by Queen, which has well over 1,200, and
'Legend' by Bob Marley & The Wailers, which will reach 1,169 Top 200 Weeks, In today's Chart.

'ABBA Gold' had the biggest percentage rise in Sales in the entire Top 100 -- 69.42%

It 'only' rose 6 places due to everything above it selling even more, due to massive Christmas Sales.

ABBA sold 6,734 copies to be at No.54.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

On good authority, I have some reliable UK sales. Gold/gt hits sold 850,000 from sep 92 until the end of 93. Between 94 until 02, ring ring CD sales were 30k, the album 44k, s trouper 96k, Abba live 83k. Polydor supplied the info.

ABBA Gold has sold around 5,300,000 to 5,420,000 UK copies since September 1992.

It depends whether it sold 730,000, (an ABBA Fan's estimate), or 850,000, (Polydor + Music Industry 'Contacts), between
1992 & 1993.

ABBA Gold was the UK's 103rd Best Selling Album of 2014 - with 70,300 Sales.

It was the 79th UK Best Selling Album for 2015 - with 84,000 Sales.

Its UK Shipments were 900,000 by August 1994. It got its 3rd UK Platinum Award in August 1994. 3 X 300,000 = 900,000.

The UK Charts Company only started recording UK Sales from W/E 12th February 1994. That is when they took over the compiling of all of the UK's Charts.

'ABBA Gold' sold a Total of 850,000 in 1992 & 1993 + 25,000 in the first 5 Charts of 1994. Which gives a UK Total of 875,000
between September 1992 & W/E 5th February 1994. (The 1st 5 Charts of 1994 were W/E 8th January 1994 to W/E 5th February
1994. The W/E 1st January 1994 Chart was the last Chart of 1993 & its Sales went towards the 1993 Charts).

Have spoken to the administrator at the OCC about Abba golds missing 2 weeks on the UK top 100 chart. They are unaware of any errors and invited an email to investigate this. Surely someone must have done that by now as this point seems to arise often??

Zeus,

While there's no guarantee that a record will be a big hit and their popularity had waned a lot I do believe When All Is Said and Done had great potential in the UK.

Do you know why this wasn't released as a single here?

The fact is that The OCC do not have UK Top 100 Album Charts from W/E 12th September 1992 to the W/E 5th February 1994.

They only have Top 75's for that period. So it is not just ABBA that lose out on No.76 to No.100 Positions for that
period. ABBA are lucky to only lose 2 Weeks. Queen lose a lot more than that. As do several other Acts.

Greatest Hits (One) by Queen loses no less than 32 No.76 to No.100 Weeks, from September 1992 to February 1994.
At least ABBA Gold only loses 2 Weeks.....

The OCC do not have the Top 100 for W/E 22nd May 1993, which had ABBA Gold falling to No.77:,

77 ( 58 ) ABBA Gold - Greatest Hits

Nor do they have the Top 100 for W/E 5th February 1994, which also had ABBA Gold falling to No.77:,

77 ( 57 ) ABBA Gold - Greatest Hits

The OCC don't have Top 100's for that period, so they just have ABBA Gold falling out of the Chart. (Top 75).

But - There is no use whatsoever, in discussing Charts with The OCC that they don't have. As far as they are
concerned, they are only interested in the Top 75's for the 'missing' period, as that is all they have.

To zeus555. I asked to speak to the administrator at the occ, never got his name. They requested an EM. It does seem like there is distortion to the number of weeks an album/act has officially or unofficially spent on the top 100. If I was a queen fan, I'd be miffed. Thanks for your message.
