Good for the interest of the new album, Egypt Station, in US, I suppose.
Blackbird, do you remember if the New single got any substantial airplays on the US radio stations before the release of the New album ?...

I Don't Know. But the Carpool Karaoke was surely essential.

NEW RELEASES: STATION IDENTIFICATION

Sir Paul McCartney should score for the week's biggest debut with his latest Capitol set, Egypt Station, but it appears that Eminem will repeat at #1.

Paul McCartney (Capitol) 115-125k total activity, 110-120k album
Lauren Daigle (Centricity/Capitol Music Group) 90-100k, 85-90k
Russ (Columbia) 70-80k, 55-60k
$uicideBoy$ (G59/Caroline) 40-50k, 30-35k
Clutch (Weathermaker) 22-25k, 21-24k

We also note strong bows for singer/songwriter Lauren Daigle, whose Look Up Child is currently #1 at iTunes and whose track "You Say" has been a brisk, steady seller, not to mention Columbia's Russ and Caroline's $uicideboy$, both of which are also on the digital sales leaderboard.

From Spotify
Today sees the release of ‘Paul McCartney & Spotify Singles: Under The Staircase’, a playlist of exclusive audio and video* recordings all captured at his intimate gig at Abbey Road Studios earlier in the summer, at which Paul played tracks from his newest solo album, Egypt Station.

Spotify hosted Paul’s intimate gig at Abbey Road’s iconic Studio 2, the studio in which so many of The Beatles’ classic tracks were recorded. The session - which was overseen by producer Giles Martin, the son of ‘the fifth Beatle’ Sir George Martin - featured a wealth of iconic tracks from the back catalogues of The Beatles and Wings, as well as tracks from his newest solo album, Egypt Station. The event was attended by around 150 of Paul McCartney‘s biggest fans from around the world, as well as close friends of the star and his family, including Stormzy, Kylie Minogue, Amy Schumer, Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom.

Spotify can now offer fans the opportunity to enjoy the session as if they were there in Studio 2 in one new playlist: ‘Paul McCartney & Spotify Singles: Under The Staircase’.

‘Paul McCartney & Spotify Singles: Under The Staircase’ is a first-of-its-kind audio and video playlist, comprising of 17 audio tracks, and a feature-length concert film, made up of 34 videos* capturing the most special moments of the Abbey Road session.

The audio Spotify Singles track listing includes:
• A Hard Day's Night
• Love Me Do
• Drive My Car
• Got To Get You Into My Life
• We Can Work It Out
• I've Just Seen A Face
• Lady Madonna
• Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band/Helter Skelter
• Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five
• My Valentine
• Fuh You
• Come On To Me
• I've Got a Feeling
• One After 909
• Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da
• Back In The U.S.S.R.
• Birthday

Paul McCartney’s latest album Egypt Station is available now on Spotify.

*The 34 videos are available in the following countries: UK, US, SE, CA, AU, NZ, LATAM

Egypt Station is Paul McCartney’s first new studio album since, well, New, opening at No.3 (15,303 sales). In fact, it is his fourth consecutive album to reach No.3, emulating his last two studio albums, Kisses On The Bottom (23,849 sales) in February 2012, and New (15,724 sales) in October 2013, and June 2016 compilation Pure McCartney (13,366 sales). It extends his overall album chart career since The Beatles' Please Please Me opened their account in 1963 to more than 55 years and - with Beatles albums factored in - is his 76th album chart entry in total, one for each year of his life.

I knew he could do it !

#1 in the US, according Hits Daily Double !

Egypt Station #1 (146,000)
Kamikaze (Eminem) #2 (127,000)

I hope Billboard will confirm it during the week-end, of course.

8th no1 album in his solo (and Wings) career since 1970- the first since Tug Of War, 36 years ago... - and... his 27th overall, including Beatles albums since 1964.

I wonder if he's the oldest musician (76 years and two months) to top the american album chart.. Anyone knows it ?

Huge ! Congratulations, sir Paul !

I've found the answer and it's no. Tony Benett was 88 years old when he topped with Cheek To Cheek with Lady Gaga in october 2014.

But Paul McCartney holds now the longest span of Nos 1 on the Billboard 200 : 48 years 3 months and 3 weeks between McCartney (23 may 1970) and Egypt Station (18 september 2018).. and even 54 years and 8 months if you include the Beatles ! The previous longest span belonged to Elvis Presley with 46 years 5 months and 3 weeks between Elvis Presley (5 may 1956) and 30 #1 Hits (26 october 2002).
