Elton John's 'Gnomeo and Juliet' hits no. 1 just in time for Oscar
Sunday, February 27 2011

Just in time for his annual Oscar party, Elton John's "Gnomeo and Juliet" hit no. 1 at the box office.

A rare achievement in its third week of wide release, "Gnomeo & Juliet" pulled in another $14.2 million for an estimated new cume of $75.1 million. The 3D animated tale will certainly pass the $100 million mark, but questions abound how much more the surprise hit could have made if the picture had been released under the Disney label instead of Touchstone Pictures. In any event, it's a great achievement for Elton and his producing team who worked hard with former Disney studio head Dick Cook to get the film made.

May be that Rocket man compilations has been certified as a dvd and not a cd-album?

It was overdued.

Now there are still some important certifications missing... Cert. for "Elton John" (Plat), "Honky Château" (MultPlat) for instance. And "Empty Sky", "11-17-70" oder "The Union" are predestinated for Gold. By this time next year "Rocket Man" (CD) will be ready for Plat.

For certifications you have to pay.
I think it's a little signal that things are getting better with elton and majors, at least in US.
It's a first result of THE UNION success probably.

Some LPs from Elton are near to the next level but some tenthousend copies are missing and so there´s no way for certification. Since record sales have been more than halved these records have no chance for soon certification. By the way these 80s records sell quite low. Reg Strikes Back (near Plat) or Sleeping With The Past (near 2xPlat) or The Very Best Of (1990 US import) near Gold are some examples.
Considering the estimated number of unreported sales (not counted sales between cert levels or insufficient sales) and the inadequate certified records the actual album sales of Elton are 85-90 million in US.

Yes, but this doesn't answer to my question.
I think this dvd is the one that comes out with the 1st press of Rccket Man cd. This will explain this 200.000 copies sold.

ALSO;
there's another 200.000copies dvd that has to be certified in US, and it's DOUBLE.
It's "ELTON at 60"

A few titles could do with an riaa update - particularly the 1970 Elton John album last certified in 1971!!

Not included is The Lion King Soundtrack which shipped 10 million and has a soundscan figure of 7,676,000

Also, very interesting soundscan figure for that single Candle in the Wind 1997

8,837,000}
A relatively easy one to update. Amazed they bothered to certify Greatest Hits 1970-2002 after so long. However it probably means they may never bother to update the rest of the catalogue.

The Rocket Man compilation keeps ticking over nicely.

Any soundscan updates very welcome, particularly for Union.
