Pink Floyd / Japanese ‘paper sleeve’ CD vinyl replicas due in November
http://www.superdeluxeedition.com/news/ ... -november/

Packaging freaks (guilty as charged) and CD collectors know that it’s hard to beat a Japanese pressing of an album presented with the full ‘vinyl replica’ treatment. These are also sometimes referred to as ‘mini-LP CDs’ or ‘paper sleeve’ editions. The good news for Pink Floyd fans is that the band’s entire discography from The Piper at the Gates of Dawn to The Endless River will receive this treatment with a run of limited edition mini-LP CD pressings due in November.

‘Vinyl replica’ has become a slightly corrupted term, since for bargain basement ‘original album series’ box sets, record labels frequently shove a disc in a low quality, spineless card sleeve and call it a ‘vinyl replica’. These forthcoming Pink Floyd reissues will be on another planet to those, with ‘mini-me’ CD versions of all 15 albums faithfully replicating all aspects of the original UK LP design. This means an attention to detail that recreates inner sleeves, posters, the sealed bag of Wish You Were Here, the sticker on the front of The Wall. They will all include ‘OBI’ strips which replicate the ones used for Japanese first LP pressings.

This series features the following titles: The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, A Saucerful of Secrets, More, Ummagumma, Atom Heart Mother, Meddle, Obscured by Clouds, The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, The Wall, The Final Cut, A Momentary Lapse of Reason, The Division Bell, and The Endless River.

These Pink Floyd limited edition Japanese CDs are issued on 1 November 2017.

Pink Floyd to reissue 1981 compilation and double live album on vinyl
http://www.superdeluxeedition.com/news/ ... -on-vinyl/
October 11, 2017 by Paul Sinclair

Pink Floyd will reissue their pithily titled 1981 compilation A Collection Of Great Dance Songs on vinyl next month alongside a vinyl reissue of the 1988 live album Delicate Sound Of Thunder.

Chronologically, A Collection Of Great Dance Songs appeared between The Wall (1979) and The Final Cut (1983) and it’s of particular interest for featuring different mixes of some songs such as Shine On You Crazy Diamond, which is edited for length and Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2) which is an hybrid of single and album mix.

However, it’s Money that really stands out here since it’a a completely new recording due to some legal shenanigans between Columbia/CBS (Pink Floyd’s US label at that time) and Capitol Records. Capitol refused to license Money for the compilation, apparently worrying that it would eat into sales of The Dark Side Of The Moon (like that hadn’t sold enough already!).

To get around this problem, David Gilmour re-recorded the track entirely, playing all the instruments himself, with the exception of the saxophone, where Dick Parry reprised his performance on the original. Impressive stuff.

Delicate Sound Of Thunder is a double live album which was recorded over five nights at the Nassau Coliseum in New York in August 1988, during the A Momentary Lapse Of Reason Tour. That tour had kicked off in September 1987 and continued until June 1990, albeit with an almost nine-month break between late August ’88 and May ’89. Like A Collection Of Great Dance Songs this 2LP vinyl reissue features audio that has been remastered from the original analogue tapes.

Both A Collection of Great Dance Songs and Delicate Sound Of Thunder will be reissued on vinyl on 17 November 2017.

Roger Waters Wraps North American Us + Them Tour, Grosses Over $18M From Latest Trek
http://www.billboard.com/articles/colum ... ance-gross
11/10/2017 by Bob Allen

Roger Waters has completed the opening leg of his Us + Them world tour with a two-night engagement in Vancouver on Oct. 28 and 29, the last stop on a 45-city jaunt through North America that launched in late May. The tour's latest trek, from Oct. 2-29, has grossed over $18 million.

The Us + Them world tour ranks among this week’s 10 top-grossing Hot Tours (see list below) based on shows reported recently from the seven Canadian arenas that ended the opening run.

The tour’s first leg racked up $89 million in ticket sales from 63 concerts scheduled during a five-month stretch. More than 734,000 fans of the Pink Floyd alum caught the tour in North American markets during the run.

Prior to the Canadian dates that all occurred in October, Waters performed stateside -- from the tour’s debut concert in Kansas City, Mo., on May 26 through a two-night stint in Boston to close out September. A three-show engagement at Staples Center in Los Angeles is the top grosser on the tour so far with $5.6 million at the box office from just over 38,000 sold seats. The top Canadian venue, Air Canada Centre is next with $4.6 million earned, also from a three-show run. The Toronto arena logged an overall attendance count of 40,061 -- the most tickets sold at any one venue during the opening leg of the tour.

The Us + Them tour is on hiatus for the remainder of 2017, but is set to resume in January with an Oceania leg that will include nine concerts booked in seven cities in Australia and New Zealand. A European run will follow from mid-April through Aug. 31, the last date scheduled so far.

Waters’ last tour, The Wall Live that ran from 2010 through 2013, currently ranks as the fifth highest grossing tour of all time, based on Billboard’s Boxscore archives. That tour was attended by more than 4.1 million fans and grossed $459 million from 219 performances. U2’s 360° tour (2009-2011) still heads up the all-time list with a total gross of $736 million.
