sorry it's all I got, but actually I'm afraid people are mostly buying the Greatest Hits compilation, it must have sold at least 700k-800k by now...
basically I don't think Dirt sold more than 3,3 million.

Thanks a lot for doing this...i really appreciate it.

Alice In Chains was an awesome band and they deserve a thread of their own...it would be nice if people can post sales and certifications from other countries too,but anyway i'm satisfied with this info.

Cheers!

by the way, thanks to Hanboo we know that AIC's radio airplay is quite good in the US, actually they get far more airplay than the Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden or R.E.M. (bands from the same era with the same level of success).

I didnt want to make another thread so it would be nice if people could post sales from grunge(or post-grunge) bands like Pearl Jam,Stone Temple Pillots,Bush,Soundgarden and of course Alice In Chains.

I would really want to know whether Bush's Sixteen Stone has surpassed 6 million scans and again if anyone has any idea where does Dirt stands as of 2007-2008.

But any info would be really appreciated.

Thanks guys

AIC were great! Along with Smashing Pumpkins,Pearl Jam,Nine Inch Nails and the mighty Faith No More they were the most consistent bands of the 90's. Also i can add Tool and Radiohead to that list.Pheeww 90's were great!!

90's faves:

Angel Dust - FNM
Siamese Dream - SP
Versus - PJ
Dirt - AIC
Downward Spiral - NIN
OK Computer - Radiohead
Aenima - Tool.

That makes up a very small portion of a great era for Alternative music.

Absolutelly agree...it was an excellent period for music, probably the last quality movement before the industrialised stars like 50Cent and co, came out.

All the albums you mentioned plus Ten and Vitalogy which are a personal favorites of mine,The Real Thing from FNM,any of Rage's first 3 albums and so on...

Most of those albums(along with those you mentioned)are timeless classics.

It was a time where the music and it's message sold the records not the image and promotion.

yeah it was a weird era when good music was actually popular, I guess it has something to do with the 80's, I mean young people being tired of commercial music (MJ, Madonna...etc).

we're on the same page it seems !!! i wish there were a few more of us here cuz a 90's music discussion and lists would make for a great thread on its own! And we could also include sales of these albums into the thread which would make for a great topic, though sadly sales are very hard to track from that era but i would go as far as saying all those bands/artists we mentioned would have at least had 1 album that sold 5 million plus(worldwide) without the commercial fuss of todays bands/artists.
it 's always funny until someone gets hurt...
