Britney is much more influenced by Janet, it's clear to see.

Will Mariah/Ariana be on this?

Anyway, I love your survivors. Hopefully there won't be "tactics" by some stans once the game starts.

Unfortunately not. It's too early to tell IMO if Ariana's songs (although I love Problem) will be viewed as having a chance of being Classics yet. Plus, there is no Mariah in this countdown. Yes you read that right, no Mariah.
I have nothing against her and she's got some songs that are viewed as Classics BUT Mariah kind of fits in the Old and New sections as she's had BIG hits in the early 90's (old) and the 2000's (new) and so she doesn't belong to either section which is why she's not in this survivor. This is also the same for other artists whose peak of fame wasn't clearly in the Classic or the Future Classic section.

I will be starting this tomorrow. :D

Thats because we could actually put Britney in the left side as one of the original Icons and Miley in the right next to her in the side of the copycats :P

It's not about Icons and who isn't icons. It's about songs which are certified Classics against songs which are looking to be future Classics. Britney is in the Future Classics section as she's part of the 2000's era of music despite starting off in 1999. She's actually the only Future Classic song not in the 2000's but 1999 is close enough. :P

I thought the Madonna vs Gaga picture would be pretty obvious unlike a Madonna vs Britney picture. :o

But people say a lot that Gaga copies Madonna etc etc. I don't care much for it personally. But I've never really seen Madonna and Britney compared musically. They are two different artists really and Brit's not been accused of copying Madonna from what I've heard.

Round 1 will be coming in a few hours. Still sorting some things out. I just hope everyone will be happy with the lists of songs. :D

I wouldn't like to see Britney in the "new classic" section, she is not a newcomer, plus she is not a copycat of any other icon, she is on the originals status.

Britney has been inmensely influenced by Madonna and Janet but at the same time she managed and succeeded to become an independent different or separate icon by her own, she is a whole own world in pop culture, there are bigger icons than her and she has her mentors but Britney is not an Icon that lives under the shadow of another Icon.

Thats what I thought she could be in the left side with the original icons, opposed to Beyonce who wasn't hot alone by her own until like 2004 or something, Britney hit it big since the 90s so she is definately from an older generation musically, and turns out that there is another "newer" girl that has a very similar background to Britney who is Miley, just like Brit she started as a Disney girl, then became a teen star sensation and money machine to then become a controversial star. So we have Classic: Baby one more time Vs Future Classic: Wrecking ball. It makes sense and fits perfectly since the Icons that are in the left side are huge forces in pop culture, made chart history and have all time selling albums while the ones that are placed in the right side (future classic) are just weaker, smaller and degrated versions.

Just to reiterate this is NOT a survivor about who is an Icon/Legend and who isn't.

A lot of the artists in the Future Classics section are Icons but there songs haven't been around for decades to clearly say that they are Classics, yet they look likely to become Classics hence why there in the Future Classics section.
Britney is part of the Future Classics section as just like Beyonce, Adele, Eminem etc etc. There songs have been around for under 2 decades which is not IMO an applicable time to say there chosen song is a Classic unlike the songs representing the Classics section which are unarguably whetehr you like them or not Classic songs.I'm getting sick of the word Classic, lol.

Plus, Britney debuted in 1999 which is just 1 year off the 2000's and can hardly be used to say she was a 90's artist.

PLEASE READ FOR EXPLANATIONS

Okay, so before we start. Some reasoning as to why the songs were chosen to prevent questions from popping up in Round 1.

1) The Future Classics section has been chosen with songs less that two decades old. (1999 - present to be exact) This is because, in this time frame the songs haven't stood the test of time to be a certified Classsic, but they look likely to become one.

2) Artists who have had massive fame peaks in recent times and decades ago like Kylie and Mariah Carey have not been included as I also wanted it to be like a Old Vs New survivor. Which was the premise to begin with.

3) Obviously not all Classics and Future Classics could be chosen and what may be viewed as the most likely Modern Classic songs and the most Classic songs of all time may have been excluded as everyone thinks differently, however I've tried to make the lists so that every song fits there category as best I could.

4) I have not included songs which have been used in recent survivors like Arctic Monkeys, I Bet That You Look Good On The Dancefloor and Franz Ferdinand's, Take Me Out. With the exception of Amy Whinehouse's song as she brought something different to the Modern Classics list and so I thought it was important that her song was kept in.

5) Songs by artists that are regularly used in survivor have been excluded for lesser known but still Classic songs. You will notice this in Michael Jackson's case.

6) I have chosen songs which are famous on a worldwide scale. For example, I wanted to include Carrie Underwood to represent some country music for the Modern Classics but although Before He Cheats may be an American Future Classic song, it's not int he rest of the world and so isn't included.

7) I hope everyone will be pleased with the lists whether your favorite Classic song is there or not or Future Classic song. I did a LOT of research to get this final list and have tried to get it to represent many genres like rock, country, pop and R&B but the Modern Classics section lacks some of these as, well, music changed and were working with a smaller time frame so I hope it's a good enough genre mixed bunch of songs for everyone.

Thanks for reading. :D

Its not an important correction but Britney debuted in 1998 not 1999

Sorry for the OT, you can continue with your thing, I'm not participating anyways
