Well that was a very interesting round. Easily the weakest batch if you ask me, and on some of the tracks it really showed.

First up, we comfortably lost the rather random Sweet cover of the Four Tops classic "Reach Out, I'll Be There". Also comfortably out was the only track so obscure it isn't on YouTube, at least not in its original form - 1979's "Big Apple Waltz". The third song that was similarly comfortably given the boot was :Funk It Up (David's Song) - a 1977 North American release that flopped big time. Then, it was close between a few, and one person loses their second favourite of this batch - their last hit before they hit the big time - 1970's "Get On The Line". I'm very pleasantly surprised that that round was a perfect result for me!

Code: Select all
40. Reach Out I'll Be There
39. When Friends Fall Out
38. Big Apple Waltz
37. California Nights
36. 4th Of July
35. Funk It Up (David's Song)
34. Sweet 2th - The Wigwam Willy Mix

30. All You'll Ever Get From Me
29. Lost Angels
28. Stand Up
27. Call Me
26. Lollipop Man
25. Get On The Line

So, we're left with a rather strong batch here...

Okay - that was a really tough group if you ask me. First up - it's the rather good most recent track from them - "Join Together". 1991's "X-Ray Specs" was the debut from "Andy Scott's Sweet" and is booted out alongside "Give The Lady Some Respect" from 1980. Finally, "Stairway To The Stars" from 1977 was a top 15 hit in Germany.

Code: Select all
40. Reach Out I'll Be There
39. When Friends Fall Out
38. Big Apple Waltz
37. California Nights
36. 4th Of July
35. Funk It Up (David's Song)
34. Sweet 2th - The Wigwam Willy Mix
33. Slow Motion
32. Sixties Man
31. Join Together
30. It's… It's… The Sweet Mix
29. X-Ray Specs
28. Give The Lady Some Respect
27. All You'll Ever Get From Me
26. Lost Angels
25. Stand Up
24. Stairway To The Stars
23. Call Me
22. Lollipop Man
21. Get On The Line

Round 6
Funny Funny
Co-Co
Alexander Graham Bell
Poppa Joe
Little Willy
Wig-Wam Bam
Block Buster!
Hell Raiser
The Ballroom Blitz
Teenage Rampage
The Six Teens
Turn It Down
Peppermint Twist
Fox On The Run
Action
The Lies In Your Eyes
Fever Of Love
Love Is Like Oxygen
Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again
Do It All Over Again

So - we;re down to our top 20 - and what a fantastic list it is.

Vote out your least favourite TWO. The two with the most votes will leave. Scores in round 1-5 will break ties if necessary.

Our top 20 starts with one of the two more recent songs that provided a bit of an upset to get in here. It's the highest entry for Andy Scott's Sweet - "Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again".

Joining it, in 19th place, we lose our first UK charting single (leaving aside the medleys of course!) It's maybe fitting that the first one to fall is their only UK charting single to miss the top 40 entirely - albeit barely - 1974's "Turn It Down".

Someone suggested to me back at the start of this - "Have you listened to some of their more recent stuff?" It was that that caused this survivor to expand to 40 songs, and the best of those recent songs, as decided by people here, but agreed by me, is "Do It All Over Again", which lands in 18th place.

The other one we lose today is one that was a top 10 hit in a number of different countries - but never made it as a single in the UK - 1976's "Fever Of Love".

Code: Select all
40. Reach Out I'll Be There
39. When Friends Fall Out
38. Big Apple Waltz
37. California Nights

It seems like each round a different person gets both their votes out. Given only three people voted this round, one song leaves more on cumulative effect than just on this round. First out, it's the first of their UK top 10 hits to fall - 1974's "The Six Teens". I can't say I'm overly fussed about it going, compared with the classics that are still to come. The incredible coincidence is that "The Six Teens" lands at number sixteen!

The other song we lose this round is one I'm impressed has lasted quite as far as it has really - it was definitely sticking out more and more like a sore thumb. In 1971, the band had a huge breakthrough with "Co-Co" and then followed it with a song on the most unlikely of subjects - the inventor of the telephone - "Alexander Graham Bell". Well, I was very close to starting voting for it this round myself, and I can't say it's a shock that it's not made the top 10.
