Heard "Never Ever" once and quite liked it.

LOVE that Top2 :o

"Into You" is fantastic, definitely a big highlight of 2016. A shame the GP didn't react the same way.

"Ain't Your Mama" was somehow very refreshing for J.Lo. I wish she would have released a full english album following that song as it was quite huge in some countries...

Great countdown :)

This will be a very short and minimalistic album countdown, especially compared to what I did in the past. Reason: I listened to A LOT of albums, and I was interested in a lot of them, but for some reason, most didn't stick with me as a whole. Therefore, this will only be a top 10, and even that top 10 is a little stretched.

10. Alicia Keys - Here
Image

I never liked her, but In Common and Blended Family interested me, and some other songs she promo'd like Holy War or Hallelujah were also great. I don't know why this album is divisive, I find it a strong work and I love her rougher vocals. The most hated song (linked below) is one of my favourites, and I love how messy her voice is on it. The outro is perfect.

9. Solange - A Seat at the Table
Image

A lovely, cohesive and well-made album. It's not too instant, but it's great to explore it. I'm glad it got the recognition. Sharing the album closer which I find really beautiful.

8. Katie Melua - In Winter
Image

Beautiful winter album, no cheese or clichés here, just perfect to get cosy by the fireplace. The choir in the background adds to the whole ethereal atmosphere, and of course her voice is as perfect as ever. Sharing my favourite song from the album, close your eyes when listening and it transports you to a whole other state of mind.

7. Norah Jones - Day Breaks
Image

Norah came back to her jazzy soulful roots on this album. Although I wasn't initially thrilled by this, as I prefer it when she experiments a bit more like in her previous effort, this album proved to be simply lovely and perfect for a morning or evening chill. The title track is my favourite, very haunting and definitely not what I'd think of when reading the title (which gives more of a positive, feelgood vibe to me).

6. Corinne Bailey Rae - The Heart Speaks in Whispers
Image

I kinda explored her whole discography this year, and this album is, like Norah's, so pretty and chill. She's a great songwriter and crafts beautiful images in the songs. I've still a long way to go, but it's always worth it when I discover another gorgeous song from her. Have to say I prefer the ballads over the more r&b stuff, but everything is really nice.

5. Rihanna - ANTI
Image

I had a relatively low and dismissive opinion of Rihanna before this album. She did everything so right with ANTI (well, except for the campaign). The album is dark, brilliantly produced, well written, full of bops and successful experiments in style. Sharing the album opener which is one of the best album openers ever, a perfect lead-in, and wowed me when I first heard it.

4. Laura Mvula - The Dreaming Room
Image

A last-minute addition to my faves list, I procrastinated with checking it out so much. Shame, because it's really good. The whole sound is very choir-like, feels like a mass, very cathartic and beautiful. Sharing a song that is particularly amazing and moving. Worth listening from beginning to end.

Checked out the ones by Norah Jones & Corinne Bailey Rae, but both were only solid at most for me.

The albums by Alicia & Katie Melua are pretty good.

"Anti" is my fave of these all so far, was a big grower for me last year.

3. Lissie - My Wild West
Image

A spectacular return to form for Lissie after her hit-or-miss sophomore album. In fact, not only is this a return to form, it's also her best album to date! Cohesive, stunning, emotional, well-crafted. I felt inspired to actually write a long review on it for UKmix (back when I had the energy to review stuff). Linking my favourite cut from the album.

2. Clare Maguire - Stranger Things Have Happened
Image

What a comeback for Clare! I liked her first album, but this one is a whole other league. Such a gorgeous and emotional work. I am repeating myself, but whatevs, it's really well-writen, sad, cohesive, emotional, everything. Linking the album closer, a poignant song about leaving someone or a relationship behind you. Shame nothing is on Youtube, but this live version is also really nice.

1. Regina Spektor - Remember Us to Life
Image

Obvious, but what the hell! This album is what I've wanted from Regina all along. She has outdone herself. This is quite possibly in her top 3, if not the best album. Despite all the happy things going on in her life, some bottled-up sadness surfaced in these songs, which are melancholic, nostalgic, sad and haunting. The whole thing is accompanied by orchestral arrangements that make it into a cohesive and emotional experience. The more upbeat singles are kinda out of place here to be honest, but I guess the album needs a pick-me-up amidst all the ballads. Her voice + piano + strings = perfection. Sharing the biggest masterpiece of the album, and quite possibly her career.
