Hi G.! Casually passing by and happy to find quite a lot of songs that I actually know! 8-)
Konstadinos Koufos even managed to get in my all-genre weekly Top 10 (and I wasn't sure whether it's trashy or not  ) It's definitely addictive! 8-) (Only Pyx Lax and Padelidis charted higher this year [for Greek acts])
Manuel Riva could have easily been a FSC entry.
Speechless at Video Video... (Don't know whether it's good or bad). Check this song out that I found in Magnus' chart: Coska: "Nightdrive" which is also extremely retro.
Maître Gims: This was a huge hit and just everywhere. If I hear it again I'll.... scream.
Hope there will be more regional songs comings.

This is the Mike Posner song that I was literally addicted to when it was released: "Cooler Than Me"

Welcome! Thanks for the suggestion, that 80s track sounds nice indeed - I'm sure I'll be able to enjoy it once I get past its resemblance to this ! (well, only the piano part)

And I feel I've heard Cooler Than Me before! Didn't know it was him!
I'll be paying you a visit soon, gobsmacked that you've charted all those acts!

This is not for your cries
This is all for your lies

10 Seeb ft. Neev - Breathe

Breathe in, breathe out, don't let your heart drown - this was definitely written by a medicine student.

#OMG. Haven't even realised the resemblance of Coska and Gazebo! :o
(PS: I pretty much like to discover songs coming from different European countries and sung in a domestic language]
My countdown is genre specific so there will be no songs that are generally known to a wider audience!
(But you are mostly welcome to give it a try... )

Tidal waves of tears are crashing
No one here to save me drowning
Cause baby you're not here with me

09 Dami Im - Sound of Silence

OMG! The Drama! The Pain! The Voice!
I was sold.

So rise up, rise it all up
Won't you rise it all up? Won't you rise it all up?

08 V V Brown - Lazarus

You may have seen Lazarus on numerous respectable year-end lists. This list is not one of them, hence this is not David Bowie, but V V Brown, an artist who should be getting the same attention. Great songwriting.

Tha se pio

07 Nalyssa Green - Κοκτέιλ

Well, you know those trees that sometimes give out a sperm-like odour? Yes, there are such trees and they do smell like semen.
And this woman went and wrote about that.
OK, she just mentions "the trees that smell like your taste", but since the song is titled Cocktail, little is left to the imagination.

06 Chairlift - Ch-Ching

BOP! BOP! BOP! I double dare you to keep this song a secret!
Well, with less than a million views, more than a year after its release, Ch-Ching is probably just that - a well-kept secret for the very lucky few.

"Sound of Silence" is spectacular.

Laisse moi voir ce qu'il reste à voir
Emmènes moi vers le grand soir
Te souffler, si tu veux bien m'écouter

05 Paradis - Toi Et Moi

Give me that bass baby all night long!

Also, in an era where music videos have gone super cheap, it's refreshing when you see little masterpieces done on obviously small budgets. Ch-Ching and Toi et Moi are both examples of simple, but creative videos that compliment the songs they are meant to promote. Enough with the semi-naked people and the lyric videos!
Ummm, actually lyric videos can be quite awesome sometimes as well. Just like the one coming right up.

Can we both say the words
and forget this?

04 Justin Bieber - Sorry

One more song I kept hearing all year long without knowing what it was. Only when I decided to soundhound it did I find out it was him. Justin. Transformed.
Sorry tortured me for months. I kept hearing it in my sleep. I would wake up singing it. I had done nobody wrong. Yet I kept saying I was sorry. Still not redeemed. Sorry.

Now let me pause a bit and calculate how much the UKMIX Forum Song Contest has affected my chart this year.

There are 9 songs in the entire top 30 that I first heard via the contest, 4 of which I'd have never heard otherwise, most notably #08 and #13. A big thank you to my co-players then, you are all really cool people. :D

Ha I am surprised to bee Justin here but it is undeniably good! I love the Dami song, your comment about the drama in her voice is spot on! I have always been a big fan of Vanessa (VV) Brown but clearly a bad one as I've not heard Lazarus, I will listen shortly, I loved her previous album.

Breathe by Seeb is a great song and deserves to give them a hit in their own right!
