The Emeli Sande, DNCE and Shawn Mendes ones are ace.

Really nice to see Melanie C here, I'm not massive on it but glad she's still turning out nice songs. Really good to see Alessia's 'How Far I'll Go' - thought I'd be the only one charting that!

"Higher" is decent, and "24K Magic" is good, though definitely one of Bruno's weakest singles, if not his absolute weakest.

I really liked "It's Quiet Uptown" from the first play. I really need to check out that Hamilton mixtape.

"Mercy" is one of Shawn's best, and "Nostalgic" is decent, though Kelly has done much, much better.

"Make Me..." was something different from Britney, and though I don't believe she totally pulled it off, it was a solid attempt. I like G-Eazy's verse and presence in the song more than I thought I would have.

"Youth" is good! I prefer "Treat You Better" to "Mercy", and good to see that you do, too!

I just listened to the Idina Menzel song, and it's not half bad!

Yay Carly and especially Britney.

I generally agree about EDM and similar mainstream sounds.
Beck's Wow was shockingly bad after his greatest ever album came before it.

Ri had a good album but Work was awful. I don't mind FH - Work From Home, though.
Bey was a mess - a shame after her fantastic album before it. Back to making noise.
Kanye track is horrendous on every level.
I don't get the fuss over Panda.

Fergie was clearly terrible but i liked the ...Love rework - it had genuine emotion when matched with the video. Not as bad as Will's usual stuff for me.

10. Bon Jovi - This House Is Not For Sale PEAK: #2 19 weeks on

If I had a chart in the 80's and 90's, Bon Jovi would've been a huge core artist due to the number of classics they had back in the day. Despite this, I feel their 2000-present output has been great as well, and they are one of few artists from that era that I have never lost interest in, as they always seem to get at least one top 10 on each album they release. Their latest album, "This House Is Not For Sale", was no exception, as its lead single was another one of my favourites. However, it ended up setting a record in the process - it spent 5 straight weeks at #2 without ever hitting #1! They did end up with longevity though, and that was enough for the New Jersey rockers to rank inside my year-end top 10!

Image
9. Gwen Stefani - Make Me Like You PEAK: #1 (3 weeks) 19 weeks on

Another long-time favourite artist for me is Gwen Stefani - between her solo stuff and No Doubt, she's been very successful for me. Her latest album, "This Is What The Truth Feels Like", wasn't quite as good as her first two solo albums, but was still a solid effort for the most part. This catchy tune became another big hit for me, spending three weeks at #1 and ranking among my top 10 best of the year, something she has done before in 2007 (The Sweet Escape #6, 4 In The Morning #2) and 2012 (Settle Down #6). Well done Gwen!

Image
8. Katy Perry - Rise PEAK: #1 (4 weeks) 20 weeks on

Katy Perry has been a favourite of mine since she debuted in 2008, and I was anticipating new music from her. It happened in 2016 with a one-off single from the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, and lyrically and sonically it definitely sounded like it! This did not disappoint, reaching #1 for 4 weeks over the summer (her 11th #1 to date), and having enough longevity to carry it among my top 10 songs of the year, which is a VERY familiar position for Katy, as she has had a year-end top 10 more years than not since she debuted, with only 2011 and 2015 not having a year-end top 10 hit since 2008. Hopefully we get a new album soon, if so I expect more big hits!

Image
7. Adele - When We Were Young PEAK: #1 (2 weeks) 23 weeks on

"25" was my most played album of 2016, and it shows here, as FIVE of its tracks made my year-end top 100 - more than any other artist. I knew Adele wouldn't have any problem getting more hits after the massive "21" era - this was one sequel that was very worthy of succeeding a huge era! This may have been one of her more underappreciated songs in the real world, but on my chart, it ranks as the era's biggest, having spent two weeks at #1 early in the year and giving Adele her highest year-end position to date!

Image
6. Laura Marano - Boombox PEAK: #5 29 weeks on

Hands up - who saw this coming? The Disney Channel starlet had a surprise hit for me, with her catchy pop melody becoming an earworm for me to the point where she had a long top 10 run, and indeed, she had the longest chart run entirely within 2016 - 29 total weeks! So despite only peaking at #5, Laura Marano's longevity with this gave her a song among my top 10 of the entire year! Just shows that teen pop continues to have an audience for me with the right song - Laura definitely delivered it!

"Like I Would" isn't bad, but Zayn has had better this year. "Water Under the Bridge" and "Love in the Dark" are both lovely. The latter took some time to grow on me, but it eventually grew into one of the most relatable songs on 25 for me.

Jeez, what a streak! "In Common" to "Into You to "Out of the Woods" to "Dangerous Woman" - four sizeable favourites of mine in a row!

"Kids" isn't bad. I ranked "One Strike" similarly.

Ah, seems that we have similar opinions as to what Gwen's best tracks are! I, too, love "4 in the Morning", and "Make Me Like You" was the standout song of this present Gwen era.

"Rise" fits comfortably among Katy's finest singles. I'm happy you feel that way too! :D

"When We Were Young" is criminally underappreciated. It's so romantic, and its chorus is divine!

Some fantastic tunes. "Something In The Way You Move", "Into You" and "Out Of The Woods" are also some highlights of the year for me.
Also glad to see Gwen and OneRepublic that high, didn't really expect this. A shame both didn't get more success on the charts out there in 2016 as they deserved more.

5. Green Day - Bang Bang PEAK: #1 (4 weeks) 19 weeks on

I was anticipating new music from Green Day in 2016... and they certainly delivered! This energetic punk rock anthem quickly became one of my favourites from them ever, spending four weeks at #1, and becoming their first #1 in 11 years! After so many great songs in the 90's and 00's, this showed they are still as good in the 10's and have managed so many great songs over their lengthy career! This is their highest year-end position to date, after having two songs in my top 10 of 2005.

Image
4. 3 Doors Down - In The Dark PEAK: #1 (3 weeks) 25 weeks on

Another band whose new music I was anticipating is 3 Doors Down, a long-time favourite of mine. Sure enough, they were able to deliver here once again, as this managed to climb its way to #1 for 3 weeks! So far, every time they have hit #1, it has made the year-end top 10, and this was no exception! Just shows that whenever they get a strong song, it's really strong!

Image
3. Tegan & Sara - Boyfriend PEAK: #1 (3 weeks) 25 weeks on

Who would've thought Tegan & Sara would get a hit THIS big for me? I'd liked several of their songs before this, but this really blew me away! My favourite song from them so far, it would have three weeks at #1 and enough longevity for my #3 of the entire year! It's another earworm that works well with their unique voices, and one that stuck with me for a long time!

Image
2. Meghan Trainor - No PEAK: #1 (2 weeks) 27 weeks on

Another pleasant surprise this year has been Meghan Trainor... prior to this, I mostly found her to be just okay, but this.... well, it helped to have a retro-2000 style pop anthem! She really delivered the feisty attitude here! One of her catchiest songs to date, this ended up spending two weeks at #1 and having enough longevity for the runner-up spot on my year-end! Easily my favourite from her so far. So who could've possibly taken my #1 spot for the entire year?

Image
1. Kate Voegele - Must Be Summertime PEAK: #1 (7 weeks) 29 weeks on

Well, really... it couldn't be anyone else, could it?

All I will say here is.... it wasn't even close.

When word came out that Kate Voegele had contributed this song, which she had originally performed live at a few shows in 2014, to Amazon's Songs of Summer compilation. I was excited. And sure enough, she certainly didn't disappoint. This song truly ruled my summer, spending seven weeks at #1, and is still charting for me to this day. It was one of her catchiest songs to date, with a pop melody worthy of attention and vivid descriptions in her lyrics. If she set out to make a fun song, that's exactly what she did here!

[Verse 1]
We pack a car and we're headed for the water
Top down and the sun is getting hotter
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh (oh, oh, oh)

We've found the place with the famous margaritas
You kissed me and you tasted like tequila
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh (oh, oh, oh)

[Chorus]
The freedom of barefeet in the sand
Salt in my hair and a beer in my hand
The blue in the sky, it must be summertime
(It must be summertime)

Coconut sunscreen on my skin
The sound of the ocean crashing in
I'm feeling alive, it must be summertime
(It must be summertime) It must be summertime

[Verse 2]
We'll camp out on the beach and start a bonfire
Barbecue, getting ready for an all-nighter
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh (oh, oh, oh)

The days are long and the sun is turning red now
Radio playing, it's about to get loud
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh (oh, oh, oh)

[Chorus]
The freedom of barefeet in the sand
Salt in my hair and a beer in my hand
The blue in the sky, it must be summertime
(It must be summertime)

Coconut sunscreen on my skin
The sound of the ocean crashing in
I'm feeling alive, it must be summertime
(It must be summertime) It must be summertime

[Bridge]
Just take me sailing away, sail away, sail away
Catch amazing riding the waves, in the waves, in the waves
Take me somewhere we can appreciate

[Chorus]
The freedom of barefeet in the sand
Salt in my hair and a beer in my hand
The blue in the sky, it must be summertime
(It must be summertime)

Coconut sunscreen on my skin
The sound of the ocean crashing in
I'm feeling alive, it must be summertime
(It must be summertime) Hey, it must be summertime

[Outro]
It must be summertime, hey, it must be summertime
It must be summertime, it must be summertime

So congratulations Kate, you have your fourth year-end #1, following "Only Fooling Myself" (2008), "99 Times" (2009) and "Heart In Chains" (2011)!

Yay for Meghan in your Top5.

Also liking Green Day's song, didn't know it would be that high on your list.

Checked out Tegan & Sara's track earlier this year as it was charting on some personal charts and thought it's nice.

Kate's song is nice too. I've even checked out the full album she's released this year which was pretty good.

Great countdown overall :)
