^ Thanks for commenting! Yeah, it's great, so it's a little strange it's not in everyone's chart . I hope she will release a follow-up single soon.

#90. Jessica Lowndes – Underneath the Mask S V
Image

Plays: 111
Best Month: November (74%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 6

#89. Chelsea Lankes – Home S A
Image

Plays: 112
Best Month: December (50%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 15

The first of two songs for Chelsea Lankes. We will have to wait a long time for the second one.

#88. The Veronicas – In My Blood S V
Image

Plays: 112
Best Month: June (54%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 15

#87. Vanessa Mai – Ich sterb für dich S V
Image

Plays: 114
Best Month: March (62%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 10

It's a bit weird to describe Vanessa Mai's solo album as a flop considering that I had never heard of her when the year began and it did result in one song (this one) that made it into the top 100. But she had huge success with me as the lead singer of schlager trio Wolkenfrei, as we will see later on the chart of the most played older songs (and the most played artists).

#86. Broods – Couldn't Believe S A
Image
(Album cover)

Plays: 116
Best Month: July (74%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 16

#85. Anette Olzon – Vintersjäl S A
Image

Plays: 116
Best Month: February (84%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 8

Swedish singer Anette Olzon has never appeared in my YEC before and this is the only song with lyrics in Swedish this year. (2013 was even worse though with none at all.)

#84. Merlyn Uusküla – Raju reede S A
Image

Plays: 116
Best Month: November (62%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 6

The first of two songs in Estonian. Google Translate can't fully handle even the title but I think the song is about wild partying on Fridays, 1990's style .

#83. Emma White – My Ex S
Image

Plays: 116
Best Month: December (79%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 5

The best song this year with the word "ex" in the title ;).

#82. Olivia Holt – Thin Air S A
Image
(EP cover)

Plays: 118
Best Month: August (81%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 4

The first of three songs for American singer and actress Olivia Holt.

#81. Little Mix – Nothing Else Matters S A
Image
(Album cover)

Plays: 120
Best Month: November (94%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 7

The only entry this year for Little Mix. Last year they had two songs in the top 50: "Black Magic" at #7 and "Secret Love Song" at #43.

Edit: Fixed broken YouTube link for "Ich sterb für dich".

#80. Olivia Holt – In the Dark S A
Image
(EP cover)

Plays: 124
Best Month: August (77%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 5

Olivia Holt's second highest placed song.

#79. Britney Spears – Invitation S
Image
(Album cover, slightly damaged)

Plays: 126
Best Month: September (59%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 7

#78. Pauline – Når tæppet falder S
Image
(EP cover)

Plays: 129
Best Month: July (90%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 7

#77. Jason Aldean – Lights Come On S V
Image

Plays: 132
Best Month: September (27%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 16

#76. Hayley Orrantia – Silence You S
Image

Plays: 133
Best Month: July (74%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 14

#75. Kyla La Grange – Hummingbird S V
Image

Plays: 137
Best Month: June (64%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 12

One of two singles that English singer/songwriter Kyla La Grange released in 2016. (The other one, "Justify", was just outside the top 200 at #238). The video is quite cool although it seems to need a very powerful computer to work smoothly in the higher resolutions:

#74. Candi Carpenter – Burn the Bed S A
Image

Plays: 137
Best Month: December (100%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 2

The current #1 on my weekly chart! I first heard it on 7th December but it didn't really get going until the last two weeks of the year.

#73. Foxes – Wicked Love S A
Image

Plays: 143
Best Month: February (64%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 10

#72. Anni Perka – Halt mich fest S
Image
(Album cover)

Plays: 144
Best Month: February (58%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 6

#71. Kalie Shorr – Yesterday's News S
Image
("Mom! I'm bored outta my mind with my pink headphones!")

Plays: 146
Best Month: July (70%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 7

#70. Kalie Shorr – Outta My Mind S
Image
("Thanks dad for my awesome new headphones!")

Plays: 148
Best Month: July (72%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 9

Kalie Shorr's second highest song.

#69. Aura – Love Somebody S A
Image

Plays: 152
Best Month: July (83%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 8

#68. Katy Perry – Rise S A
Image

Plays: 152
Best Month: July (81%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 5

#67. Kaya Stewart – Sleepover S
Image

Plays: 152
Best Month: November (99%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 7

The first of three songs for young singer Kaya Stewart, daughter of Dave Stewart (Eurythmics).

#66. Kalie Shorr – Break the Breakup S
Image
(Album cover, the real one)

Plays: 154
Best Month: July (72%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 7

And here is her highest, so Kalie didn't make it into the top 50 with any of her songs but having all of her eight album songs in the top 200 is still great.

#65. Allie X – Too Much to Dream S V
Image

Plays: 158
Best Month: July (79%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 6

#64. Franziska – Abenteuer S V
Image

Plays: 159
Best Month: December (100%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 4

Here is the German schlager singer who took over almost the entire top 6 on my weekly chart the last week of the year, only to get shafted the week after due to my ancient chart rules that only allow songs from the current year and the year before. This is the only song she released in 2016 and consequently the only one allowed on this YEC. We will however meet her again later when I also list my most played older songs in 2016.

#63. Francesca Michielin – No Degree of Separation S V
Image

Plays: 159
Best Month: May (85%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 14

The Italian ESC entry, sung in both English and Italian. (There is a version in Italian only but I prefer this ESC version.) It's the second highest song from the ESC but we will have to wait quite a while for the most successful one.

#62. Cassadee Pope – Summer S V
Image
(EP cover)

Plays: 162
Best Month: June (70%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 8

Cassadee's highest song, the title track from her EP.

#61. Shakira – Try Everything S V
Image
(Shakira's looks haven't exactly improved since 2001 I notice...)

Plays: 166
Best Month: January (73%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 9

So many good songs already!

I'm shocked at Try Everything and Rise being so high! Did not expect that! :o

Yes for Allie X!!!

Invitation is possibly the best on Britney's album. Nice to see it chart.

My favourites are In My Blood, Wicked Love and No Degree Of Separation! Incredible <3

Aww i thought Rykka may end up higher on your countdown, but still nice to see her getting some spots. She's so underrated.

Christina :(

Very happy with the former Nightwish singers Tarja and Anette Olzon ending up in your Top100. Awesome result for them.
Also positively surprised about Vanessa's Placement for "Ich sterb für mich".

While i like all the quoted ones above, the bolded are easily my fave :D

Thanks! Well, "Try Everything" got most of its plays in January so it's almost forgotten by now... Actually both of those songs would most likely be a bit lower (around #100) if I had tried to rank the songs by how much I like them now instead of just using the number of times I've played them. But I think the latter is still a pretty accurate way of measuring how much I liked them on average since I found them (especially since my listening conditions were fairly constant throughout the year).

I don't agree that "Invitation" is possibly the best on Britney's album as there is another song way ahead for me, but it's still a great song that I like much more than I would have expected to like a new Britney Spears song!

Great that you like so many of the songs on my chart! Yeah, maybe Rykka ended up a little too low; I thought I had listened more to especially "The Last of Our Kind" that I actually did. Didn't think of the Nightwish connection when I made that post, otherwise I probably should have written a comment about it... "Ich sterb für dich" () did spend eight weeks on my weekly chart, so while I was never crazy about it any single week those plays added up.

Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 10

#59. Madeline Juno – Verlernt S
Image
(EP cover)

Plays: 169

Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 6

The most successful song on Madeline's EP and her second highest song overall.

#58. Anni Perka mit Björn Martins – 10000 Nächte S L
Image
(Album cover)

Plays: 170

#57. Against the Current – Roses S A
Image
(Album cover)

Plays: 173

Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 2

#56. Cappa – Hey Hi Hello S A
Image

Plays: 178
Best Month: July (44%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 12

Cappa's second highest song.

#55. Raylee – Falling Awake S A
Image

Plays: 178

Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 7

Norwegian pop singer.

Image
(Album cover)

Plays: 178
Best Month: April (53%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 8

Aubrie's third highest song.

#53. Carolina – Back to Where It All Began S V
Image

Plays: 184
Best Month: December (100%)
Highest Weekly Plays: 100
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 2

Relatively unknown singer from the Netherlands. This is the lowest song that managed 100 or more plays in a single calendar week. The video isn't amazing but this is the only song in this batch that has a video:

#52. Anna Känzig – Rebel Heart S
Image
(Album cover)

Plays: 184
Best Month: May (79%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 13

By far my favourite song by this Swiss singer.

#51. Chvrches – Warning Call S A
Image

Plays: 191
Best Month: July (73%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 9

The only song this year for Scottish trio Chvrches. #51 is the first position where the number of plays has caught up with and overtaken 2015; never before has my #51 gotten this many plays (189 last year). It turns out though that 2016 beats 2015 only for #51, #50, #5, #3 and #2 (and for #2 the record will still belong to 2010).

#50. Kaya Stewart – So You Care Now S
Image
(Album cover)

Plays: 193
Best Month: November (99%)
Highest Weekly Plays: 121
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 4

The second highest of two songs in the top 50 for Kaya Stewart.

#49. Maren Morris – Space A
Image
(Album cover, Target edition)

Plays: 195
Best Month: June (61%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 6

Maren Morris makes her first appearance on my YEC here at #49, which means that she has three songs in the top 50.

#48. Laura Marano – La La S A
Image

Plays: 195
Best Month: August (71%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 2

#47. Madeline Merlo – Over and Over S
Image
(Album cover)

Plays: 199
Best Month: May (89%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 7

We haven't seen Canadian country singer Madeline Merlo since #190, which means that out of her seven songs in the top 200, four of them are here in the top 50 which is more than any other artist has.

#46. Kaya Stewart – Free Fall S
Image
(Album cover)

Plays: 199
Best Month: November (99%)
Highest Weekly Plays: 127
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 3

And here is Kaya's highest song.

#45. Britt Nicole – Through Your Eyes S A
Image

Plays: 201
Best Month: September (62%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 5

The first of two songs for American (Christian) pop singer Britt Nicole.

#44. Beatrice Egli – Bitte Bitte S A
Image
(Album cover)

Plays: 206
Best Month: May (85%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 10

The first of two songs for Beatrice Egli in the top 50.

#43. Madeline Merlo – War Paint S
Image
(Album cover)

Plays: 207
Best Month: May (88%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 7

Madeline's third highest song. This is the third year in a row that there is a song with the title "War Paint" on my YEC!

#42. Nina Kraljić – Snijeg S V
Image
(Album cover)

Plays: 209
Best Month: October (80%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 4

Nina's highest song is this beautiful ballad about snow. And it's the only song in this batch with a proper music video, so here it is even though I think it's more weird than good:

#41. Katelyn Tarver – Hate to Tell You S A
Image

Plays: 209
Best Month: December (95%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 2

American singer Katelyn Tarver returns to the top 50 on my YEC for the first time since 2005 when she #38 with "Everything". She was also #54 in 2007 with "Chasing Echoes" but then completely absent in 2008-2015.

The Cappa, CHVRCHES and Rachel Platten songs are all great. I actually keep forgetting about Warning Call but I actually really like it! The Hi Hello Cappa one is good but no where near as good as Nirvana or Goddess.

Boombox >>> La La

The only song in Dutch in the top 200, by Belgian singer Eveline Cannoot.

#39. Beatrice Egli – Federleicht S
Image
(Album cover, Fan edition)

Plays: 219
Best Month: November (94%)
Highest Weekly Plays: 115
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 5

Beatrice's highest song is this ballad that was added (along with several more songs) to the Fan edition of her latest album.

#38. Shallows – Summer Sucks S A
Image

Plays: 221
Best Month: September (58%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 4

#37. Nina Nesbitt – Chewing Gum S V
Image

Plays: 227

Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 7

#36. Rebecca Black – The Great Divide S
Image

Plays: 234
Best Month: September (61%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 3

#35. Jackie Evancho – Apocalypse S V
Image

Plays: 238
Best Month: July (64%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 2

A great original pop song from 16-year-old classical crossover singer Jackie Evancho.

#34. Jillian Jacqueline – Birds and the Bees S
Image
(EP cover)

Plays: 240
Best Month: July (86%)
Highest Weekly Plays: 107
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 2

#33. María Ólafsdóttir – Baby Take the Wheel S V
Image

Plays: 241
Best Month: May (69%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 5

Icelandic singer María Ólafsdóttir (also known as Maria Olafs) was #5 last year with (the Icelandic vesion of) her ESC song and she unexpectedly returned this year with the retro-sounding pop gem.

#32. Tegan and Sara – 100x S V
Image
(Album cover)

Plays: 249
Best Month: May (87%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 4

The most successful song on my chart from Tegan and Sara's latest album.

#31. Olivia Holt – History S V
Image
(EP cover)

Plays: 254
Best Month: July (57%)
Highest Weekly Plays: 143
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 1 (1 week)

Olivia Holt's highest placed song and the lowest song that reached #1 on my weekly chart. This nice video was released much later (November) so it was not the reason why I liked the song so much:

#30. Maren Morris – Rich S A
Image
(Album cover)

Plays: 255
Best Month: May (73%)
Highest Weekly Plays: 110
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 4

Maren's second highest song.

#29. RaeLynn – Diamonds S A
Image
(Album cover for not yet released album)

Plays: 261
Best Month: October (53%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 5

RaeLynn's highest song. I'm still pissed that her album got postponed until June 2017.

#28. Madeline Merlo – Twist of Fate S
Image
(Album cover)

Plays: 268
Best Month: May (71%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 6

Madeline's second highest song and probably my favourite from her despite not having the most plays.

#27. Margaret – Cool Me Down S V
Image

Plays: 278
Best Month: March (85%)
Highest Weekly Plays: 156
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 2

It was extremely annoying that this song did not become the Polish ESC entry this year. Although perhaps shockingly, it is only the third highest should-have-been ESC song on the chart (and also beaten by one actual ESC song)!

#26. That Poppy – Altar S A
Image
(EP cover)

Plays: 280
Best Month: November (98%)
Highest Weekly Plays: 186
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 1 (1 week)

#25. Madeline Merlo – Whatcha Wanna Do About It S V
Image

Plays: 280
Best Month: April (58%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 3

And here is Madeline Merlo's highest song. So despite having the most songs in the top 50 she has none in the top 20. I'll spare you Melissa's video and go with this one instead:

#24. Melissa Naschenweng – Die ganze Nacht S V
Image

Plays: 286
Best Month: November (98%)
Highest Weekly Plays: 155
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 2

Austrian schlager singer.

#23. Shura – What's It Gonna Be? S V
Image
(Album cover)

Plays: 289
Best Month: July (88%)
Highest Weekly Plays: 118
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 1 (1 week)

By far my favourite song on Shura's album, in fact the only one that got more than three plays, 1% of what this song got.

#22. Aubrie Sellers – Something Special S L
Image
(Album cover)

Plays: 316
Best Month: April (61%)
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 3

Aubrie's second highest song, a wonderful soft country ballad. This means that only one artist has more than one song in the top 20. If you have been following my weekly chart (or this countdown very closely) you should be able to figure out who it is.

#21. Britt Nicole – Concrete S A
Image
(Album cover)

Plays: 328
Best Month: October (99%)
Highest Weekly Plays: 236
Peak Position on Weekly Chart: 4

It's relatively rare that 200 plays in a week (usually the first) isn't enough to become #1 on my weekly chart, but this song only reached number four despite 236 plays so it got extremely unlucky with high competition the week I found it (and the week after). By far my favourite song by Britt Nicole (real name Brittany Nicole Waddell), not just this year.

Shura - What's It Gonna Be? Was a true grower for me. It's one of those songs that get better with each listen! Same thing For Shallows - Summer Sucks and that one made my Top 10!

Nice to see Chewing Gum, The Great Divide and 100X so high. They all made my year end top 40 too!

Really good to see Nina charting highly. Also the Margaret song is cool and the Shura one too!

Thanks for commenting! For me Shura's song was instant but good that it was a grower for you! "Summer Sucks" on the other hand was the same for me or even slower, and I discovered it thanks to your chart (and/or Biebz's). :D

Thanks for commenting! Yeah, "Chewing Gum" was one of my earliest jams of the year and I'm surprised it didn't go higher than #7 on my weekly chart.

I know I said this countdown would be "20 posts" but I decided to split #11 – #20 into four posts to be able to include the videos for all four songs that have music videos. This will also push the top 10 to the next page without too many "filler posts" :D.

#20. Hillary Scott & The Scott Family – Thy Will S V
Image

Plays: 332
Best Month: October (65%)
Highest Weekly Plays: 64
Peak Position / Number of Weeks on Weekly Chart: 5 / 10

It took many weeks from the first time I heard this until I really started to like it, which is reflected by October being its best month despite the first play happening in July. (For the vast majority of songs on the chart, the best month is the month where I first discovered them, or the month after if it was really late in the month.)

#19. Yohanna – Revolving Doors A
Image

Plays: 337
Best Month: March (76%)
Highest Weekly Plays: 134
Peak Position / Weeks on Weekly Chart: 2 / 9

Icelandic singer Yohanna (Jóhanna Guðrún Jónsdóttir) returned with this great ballad. She was #12 in 2009 with her ESC runner-up "Is it True?".

#18. Megan Nicole – Play It Cool S A
Image

Plays: 344
Best Month: October (82%)
Highest Weekly Plays: 236
Peak Position / Weeks on Weekly Chart: 2 / 6

This simple but strangely addictive pop song got the same fate as "Concrete" at #21: It didn't reach #1 on my weekly chart despite getting more than 200 plays its strongest week. Apparently, 236 is the unlucky number this year! Another strange coincidence is that both singers share the same middle name! Megan's full name is Megan Nicole Flores and she's mostly known for YouTube covers, but this is not one of those.

#17. Maren Morris – Bummin' Cigarettes A
Image
(Album cover, Target edition)

Plays: 347
Best Month: June (60%)
Highest Weekly Plays: 153
Peak Position / Weeks on Weekly Chart: 3 / 6

That's right, the best song on Maren Morris's album is not included on the regular edition but only on the rather obscure (hard to get outside of the US) Target edition. It's a ballad whose title even taught me a new English word (as a verb). Smoking is usually not allowed on my chart but this song is so good that I had to make an exception ;).

#16. Demi Lovato – Body Say S A
Image

Plays: 381
Best Month: August (59%)
Highest Weekly Plays: 70
Peak Position / Weeks on Weekly Chart: 1 (1 week) / 11

Demi Lovato has appeared in the top 20 on my YEC once before, at #9 in 2008 with "Until You're Mine" from her first album. She was also close in 2011 with "Give Your Heart a Break" at #26. Those songs never became #1 on my weekly chart but "Body Say" somehow managed to do that despite not having any single really strong week. I still regard "Until You're Mine" as my favourite song by her though and that song still has more total plays (but not by much).

#15. Britney Spears – Man on the Moon S
Image
(Album cover)

Plays: 440
Best Month: August (80%)
Highest Weekly Plays: 294
Peak Position / Weeks on Weekly Chart: 1 (3 weeks) / 7

Britney Spears scoring a top 20 hit on my YEC for the first time since 2000 (when "Oops ..." was at #15) is something I would have considered extremely unlikely at the beginning of the year. But that changed as soon as I heard this song for the first time when I listened to her new album.

#14. Kitten – Fall on Me S V
Image

Plays: 445
Best Month: January (50%)
Highest Weekly Plays: 223
Peak Position / Weeks on Weekly Chart: 2 / 8

Kitten, sometimes a band and sometimes consisting of just lead singer Chloe Chaidez, scored a top 5 hit on my YEC in 2014 with "Like a Stranger" and returned with this new single early in the year (and later an EP).

#13. Anni Perka – Tanz auf dem Vulkan S V
Image

Plays: 456
Best Month: February (68%)
Highest Weekly Plays: 157
Peak Position / Weeks on Weekly Chart: 2 / 7

This song started the "schlager boom", the full magnitude of which is somewhat hidden on this YEC (due to many of the best songs I discovered being released in 2013–2015). The chorus may be stolen from a well known 1980s song, but it's a great song nonetheless.

Not much I know from this batch. Man On The Moon is good though! I'm still surprised at how well it did on your charts!

#12. Martina Stoessel – My Stupid Heart S A
Image
(Album cover)

Plays: 465
Best Month: May (87%)
Highest Weekly Plays: 190
Peak Position / Weeks on Weekly Chart: 2 / 8

Here we find the only artist with two songs in the top 20, Argentine singer Martina Stoessel (also known as TINI). "My Stupid Heart" is one of those great songs this year that didn't reach #1 on my weekly chart due to being blocked by another great(er) song, although in this case it was a song from the same album.

#11. Madeline Juno – You Know What? S V
Image

Plays: 469
Best Month: March (20%)
Highest Weekly Plays: 53
Peak Position / Weeks on Weekly Chart: 4 / 23

German singer Madeline Juno's highest song was a "slow-burner" that only reached #4 on my weekly chart but continued to get plays throughout most of the year, giving it by far the lowest percentage of plays in its strongest month among the songs from #11 to #20. Unfortunely this wasn't quite enough for a top 10 position. The song later became a single with a pretty nice video:
