bluecherry's 2016 Countdown (Songs: #82-#77)

Welcome to my first official year-end chart!

Hey guys! My personal chart may have disappeared for the latter half of the year due to other commitments but I kept it strong off of the forum. We had thirty-two number one singles, many platinum albums and some breakout stars. I'm hoping to look at my top forty albums and top hundred singles to determine: who had the best 2016? I'll also be releasing my Grammy-esque awards and Brit awards following the countdown completion. So let's begin!

Albums
The album countdown was determined by a critical score for each album (each song was scored out of ten then averaged), and a 'sales' score. They were ranked and then the two scores were combined in order to make it a fair countdown for newer albums also.
Code: Select all
40 = Izzy Bizu - A Moment of Madness
39 = Nick Jonas - Last Year Was Complicated
38 = The Weeknd - Starboy
37 = All Saints - Red Flag
35 = Katy B - Honey
34 = Kanye West - The Life of Pablo
33 = Carly Rae Jepsen - Emotion Side B
32 = M.I.A. - AIM
31 = Adore Delano - After Party
30 = Yuna - Chapters
29 = Sia - This is Acting
28 = Britney Spears - Glory
27 = Bruno Mars - 24k Magic
26 = Frank Ocean - Blonde
25 = Tweet - Charlene

Only know two tracks by Izzy so far as she got some airplay over here. "White Tiger" is great and should have been a big hit...

I loved 'White Tiger' when it first came out and still do - it had such a feel-good vibe to it!

The Weeknd album is solid, but not quite as fantastic as last year's Beauty Behind the Madness. The title track is the standout song for me, but I also adore "Six Feet Under" and "I Feel It Coming".

I've heard tracks from the Nick Jonas, All Saints, and Kanye West albums, but haven't explored them in full.

A good start, Foxes album is ace, I think Better Love is my favourite though! Didn't listen to the Katy B one as the singles didn't grab me, but you've made me curious! Izzy, if White Tiger is the best thing, I might leave, it's nice but just nice for me.

Need to listen to Nick, i KNOW already the best song is Champagne Problems though :lol:

I agree, although I think it would've been really difficult to top such a great album. Those three albums are good but very up and down - not too consistent.

I love Better Love but think Cruel just edges it although they both performed well. The Katy B album is great - really diverse. There'd definitely be a few tracks for everyone. The Izzy album is good and there are some lovely songs but it is quite... bland.

Thank you for checking it out!

Nick's album was solid, however i got over it quite fast and while i thought it's better than the previous one at first, it's now clearly weaker for me.

The Weeknd released another great record with "Starboy". Glad he already made your Top40 despite the late release :D

All Saint's album is solid from what i remember. I checked it out cause there were some fans over here and i never heard an album by them so i thought i'd try this out to finally know something from them. "One Strike" is the only track i remember now though... :oops:

Foxes' album is a great pop album, probably even one of the better pop albums of 2016. A shame it wasn't a much bigger success for her.
Same could be said about Carly's EP.

Last but not least, love "This Is Acting". Even better than "1000 Forms Of Fear" for me :D

I think the debut definitely has better highs but to me 'LYWC' has less lows - more consistent!

Yes! It's solid definitely!

'One Strike' and 'One Woman Man' are phenomenal!!

It is definitely a solid album. When re-listening and ranking albums I had forgotten how consistent it was.

Really? I prefer 1000FOF! Possibly for the attachment I have for it.

I never really understood "Honey". Was it a usual studio album? I loved "Little Red"!

Foxes is amazing :D "Cruel" is also my fave :cry:

"This Is Acting" does contain some very fine tracks.

I was impressed with "Glory" in the beginning but it didn't age well for me :(
