In this thread I'm going to do some sort of countdown (not necessarily in the same format I used in 2015-2016) of my top 200 songs (singles, album tracks, EP tracks etc.) released* in 2017. As always my Year End Chart is based on plays from 1st January until 31st December so I need the year to have ended before I can start this.

The Top 200 countdown for 2017 begins here.

Top 10 Albums and Artists

Image
150 covers for the 268 songs with the (as of 26th December) estimated highest chance to end up in the top 200.

The poll includes, in alphabetical order, nine of my biggest favourite songs from 2017, not necessarily the final Top 9 but there is no trap song included this year! The poll will remain open until I start posting the Top 10.

*) In most cases, the meaning of this is obvious but there are a couple of special cases: 1) If a song was released as a single in 2016 (or possibly earlier) but is also included on an album or EP that was released in 2017 then I will treat it as a 2017 song if I didn't discover it until this year. Similarly, if a song was included on an album released in 2016 (or possibly earlier) but was also released as a single in 2017 then I will treat it as a 2017 song if I didn't discover it until this year. This also means that a song can never appear on the regular YEC more than once. My most played older songs during the year get their own chart.

Really excited for this!

I went with Maia in the Poll as she's obvious to me, however i wouldn't mind Meghan Patrick, Lauren Alaina or Alma being your #1 :)

^ Thanks for commenting! Yeah, 2017 is not the most exciting year when it comes to the #1. So instead of having one joke in the poll the entire poll is sort of a joke this time .

Looking at the previous 17 years (that many :o), it was a close or relatively close race (less than 25% difference between the #1 and #2) six times (including last year) and a difference of more than a factor of 2 (2.5 actually!) four times, and between 27 and 72% the other seven years. So maybe the only meaningful question is whether 2017 will be the closest race in the group 2 .

My 2017 YEC is sort of stuck in limbo currently. Normally I would listen to the YEC (i.e. reveal it to myself) on the 1st or the 2nd (or sometimes split over two days) of January but this time I've gotten the cold of the decade and I am going to postpone it until I feel reasonably well again, which by how things look currently may take a week or two. (Could be quicker with a bit of luck though.)

While technically possible, and actually would be kind of interesting, I have decided that I'm not going to start posting here before I have listened to it. I also don't feel like writing a lot of posts at the moment. (I plan to post my weekly chart as usual tomorrow; that I can do without much manual work this time.)

^ Thanks for commenting, and I'm glad you love stats! Yeah, it's strange that I haven't found even one song in Swedish I really liked in 2017. It only happened once before that there was no song in Swedish in the top 200, in 2013. But there have been many years with just one or a few, meaning there are exceptionally few albums in Swedish from the last 18 years that have made an impact on me.

This is the first of around 20 posts with the top 200 songs. Artwork and the odd commentary will be added starting from #100.

It took only 20 plays to reach the top 200 this year, down from 49 last year and 59 two years ago. 20 is just a tiny bit below the median (20.4) for all years since 2000 though, and as we will soon see, the increase towards the higher positions will be unusually steep.

New Found Glory didn't evolve very much. Their latest album sounds like a blast from the past (and not in a good way)
The Sound Of Two Voices is ultra-cute, though! 8-)

^^ Thanks for commenting, Blondini and trebor!

Makes Me Sick is actually the first album by New Found Glory that I checked out in full. I agree though that their sound on it is very similar to those older singles I'm familiar with.

Glad to read you're feeling better & i hope you may be fully recovered soon :)

Let's see what happened so far...

Spoiler:
202. Lea Michele – Getaway Car
203. Anja Nissen – Where I Am
208. Alma – 8 ans et des poussières
209. Levina – Perfect Life
210. Alma – L'amour fou
211. Helene Fischer – Nur mit dir
213. Lea Michele – Sentimental Memories
215. Lea Michele – Heavy Love
221. Lea Michele – Tornado
223. Lea Michele – Proud
224. Alma – Quand les vagues reviennent
228. Selena Gomez & Marshmello – Wolves
245. Lorde – Green Light
260. Lena – Lost in You
276. Lady Antebellum – Hurt
278. Svala – Paper
281. Taylor Swift – Look What You Made Me Do ["End Game" is even lower, everything else in the top 200]
286. Tarja – O Tannenbaum
287. Poppy – I'm Poppy

Quite a lot on the missed list that i enjoy. Lea Michele seemed a bit unlucky with having so many songs on this list. Her album was quite solid!
Very pleased "O Tannenbaum" and "Wolves" are here.

#196. The Dark Element – Someone You Used to Know
#195. Lea Michele – Heavenly
#194. Taylor Swift – New Year's Day
#188. Lea Michele – Anything's Possible
#186. Alma – J'ai
#185. Aly & AJ – The Distance S

Probably no surprise to see me highlighting "Someone You Used To Know". Very glad it made the Top200 despite not charting on the weekly chart, that's a nice feat! While it was my second least favorite song on their album, it grew a lot on me and now it's actually one of my faves :o

#180. Lea Michele – Hey You
#178. Lea Michele – Run to You
#177. Aly & AJ – Promises
#176. Demy – This Is Love
#171. Cappa – Waste My Time
#170. The Dark Element – Only One Who Knows Me
#169. Dihaj – Skeletons

#168. RaeLynn featuring Dan + Shay – Say
#167. The Dark Element – Heaven of Your Heart
#165. Lana Del Rey – Coachella - Woodstock in My Mind
#162. Kygo with Selena Gomez – It Ain't Me
#161. Jana Burcheska – Dance Alone

Strong group! Love those ESC entries, The Dark Element and always nice to see Lana and Selena :D

#160. Louane – On était beau
#159. Lauren Alaina – Think Outside the Boy
#154. My Indigo – Out of the Darkness
#153. RaeLynn – Your Heart
#151. Taylor Swift – This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things
#150. RaeLynn featuring Leeland Mooring – Young
#149. Lady Antebellum – Heart Break
#147. Camila Cabello – Crying in the Club
#146. RaeLynn – Graveyard
#144. Lauren Alaina – My Kinda People
#143. Lauren Alaina – Pretty
#141. Taylor Swift – Dress

I'm impressed to see "Out Of The Darkness" already so high - that's over 80 places higher than on my YEC :o
Nice to see Lauren & RaeLynn having several entries. Both of their albums were very nice discoveries for me in the first quarter of 2017.
Also really like "Crying In The Club" - my favorite song by Camila so far.
