#3 Alexia Gredy - Paradis
Country: France
Genre: Pop, Indie Pop

Alexia Gredy is a french model who made her first attempt at having a career in singing with "L'Habitude".
The sound is relatively soft, her voice is not loud, but there are certain traces of that yé-yé sound we know and love in this song.

    Album chart Top 50
    4-3

    4 Léa Paci - Chapitre 1
    Country: France
    Genre: Pop
    Léa Paci - Adolescente Pirate
Léa Paci - Pour aller où ?
The combination of melancholy and pop makes for a good relatable record, especially if you have Léa's voice

    3 Ellen Allien - Nost
    Country: Germany
    Genre: Electronic, EDM, Techno
    Ellen Allien - Call Me
    Ellen Allien - Mind Journey
A dark techno/electronic album, sounds so not 2017.

    #2 Jonathan Bree - You're So Cool
    Country: New Zealand
    Genre: Baroque Pop

Lil'Chief Records finally struck their second viral gold after ''Cigarette Duet'' (w/Princess Chelsea) hit 30+ million views in 2011.

Jonathan Bree made a classy reconstruction of 60s aesthetic almost all by himself, he made the song, he shot the music video, he is one of Lil'Chief Records originators.

      Album chart Top 50

2 Arcane Roots - Melancholia Hymns
      Country: United Kingdom
      Genre: Alternative Rock, Mathcore
Arcane Roots - Off The Floor
      Arcane Roots - Matter
Not just your ordinary alternative rock record, electric guitar is put here to a very extensive, great use.
Highlights: ''Off The Floor'', ''Arp'', ''Everything (All At Once)'' (scintillating drumming work).

        Album chart Top 50

        Image
        1 Kirkis - Vide
        Country: Australia
        Genre: Coldwave, No Wave, Darkwave
        Kirkis - Finally
        Kirkis - Miracle
        Kirkis - Vivian
        Kirkis - Hey Man
This record was a revelation of the year for me personally.
Finally someone managed to make something with such a dark sound seem relatively accessible and sometimes even catchy.

#1 Lo Stato Sociale - Socialismo Tropicale
        Country: Italy
        Genre: Indiie Pop, Ska

This one was released on December, 22nd. So it was quite late to the annual table, but anyway here it is right at the top.
Lampedusa is an island with a long standing history of drama & tragedy. So writing a happy, toe-tapping song about it seems to be a little bit preposterous. But Lo Stato Sociale wanted to draw attention to their government being an accomplice in creating this human tragedy
This is like Manics' "So Why So Sad'' in a way.

        Senza mai leggere il giornale
        In cerca d'amore occasionale

Top 10 live performances of 2017
#10 Rae Morris - Do It (BBC Introducting 2017)

I like this one even more because the audience is cold and unfamiliar with Rae's song.

Wooo, something I know!! The Royal Blood album, you're right, doesn't move on especially quickly from the first album but is still full of catchy guitar riffs and melodies.

I can't believe there is so much music out there that I have never heard of, your chart is proof!

In the Royal Blood's case, their album is more about pleasing the dedicated fans than the music critics.

        What an obscure chart.

Rae Morris is excellent and sorely underrated!

Top 10 live performances of 2017
#4 a-ha feat. Ingrid Helene Håvik - The Sun Always Shines On TV (MTV Unplugged)

''Summer Solstice'' was a success for a-ha, and I suppose one of the best-selling live albums in 2017.
        This is my personal highlight.

I think this could have been a banger if the music executives behind Rae really tried to make it happen (payola on Spotify still works)

It's a real shame but no one really took notice, even that music video has about 15k views on youtube which is a pity.
