Grybop's Best of 2006 (-#01)

Moderators: tdc2000, FreakyFlyBry

Postby Grybop » Sun Dec 03, 2006 12:50 pm

Just like last time (and every year actually), my year-end chart contains songs that may have not been released as singles; in fact some of them may have not been released within the year at all.
It merely represents the songs I loved the most during the previous 12 months and started to like within that period, or shortly before.
Here is a rough list of the contenders for my year-end top 20 list - basically my favourite songs this year in alphabetical order by the artist.
Subject to change.

Lily Allen - Smile
Camera obscura - Lloyd, I'm ready to be heartbroken
Cassius - Toop toop
Chungking - Voodoo
Clap your hands say yeah - In this home on ice
Coldcut ft. John Matthias - Man in a garage

CSS - Let's make love and listen to Death From Above
Does it offend you, yeah? - Battle royale
Gotan project - Diferente
Guillemots - Trains to Brazil
Kore. Ydro. - Hirapsia / Gay anthem for the new millennium

Margot & the Nuclear So and So's - Skeleton key
Meck - Thunder in my heart again (Hott 22 remix)
Morandi - A la lujeba
MYNC Project feat. Abigail Bailey - Something on your mind (Switch remix)
Povia - Vorrei avere il becco

Markus Schulz with Departure and Gabriel & Dresden - Without you near (Gabriel & Dresden mix)
Severina - Moja štikla
Shakedown - Fantasy (Sharam Jey remix)
Alycia Stefano - Que calor (Enzo Mori & Stephan Clark mix)
Take That - Patience
Teamsters - Feels like love (Morjac club mix - String outro)
Justin Timberlake - My love
Sibel Tüzün - Super star
The Ultrasonics - Why you had to leave

Rufus Wainwright - The maker makes
White rose movement - Girls in the back

Notes:
- Get Together by Madonna should also be there, but since it already made #19 on my 2005 year-end list, I thought I should omit it - not sure if it would make the top 20 this time anyway.
- There are only very few non-2006 releases, unexpectedly enough.
- Still uncertain as to what my #1 will be, let alone the final shape of the list.
- Not sure whether I'll make a promo video this time either.

It's the traditional alphabetic way of presenting artists...

Anyway, I know very few songs as expected, but will keep an eye out regardless as usual.

Thanks for your response :)

There will be a few random mini charts along the way as well, and here's the first one:

Best of 2006: Top 3 Alarms
The songs that made me hit Snooze on my mobile again and again.

1 Nelly Furtado - Promiscuous
2 Morandi - Falling asleep
3 Bob Sinclar - World, hold on (Children of the sky)

1 Nelly Furtado - Promiscuous

I don't quite get what that means but still woo for Nelly Furtado/Timbaland - I liked it!

Hehe that first mini chart is good.

However the Bob Sinclar song would make me chuck my mobile out of the window.

This looks like a very interesting chart and I wish I knew more of the songs on your list. From the ones I do know I hope Meck does well.

'Falling asleep' as a wake-up alarm song? How ironic! Great song nevertheless.

I need to get an alarm clock for the new year.

Let me just point out that there are 2 remixes on that list that sound nothing like the originals, which I don't like btw. One of them is the Switch remix of Something On Your Mind and the other is the Sharam Jay mix of Fantasy, both vastly different from the versions that were commercially promoted.

These are the ones from your list, likely to make my Top 100.

Lily Allen - Smile
Camera obscura - Lloyd, I'm ready to be heartbroken
CSS - Let's make love and listen to Death From Above
Guillemots - Trains to Brazil
White rose movement - Girls in the back

A lot I'm unfamiliar with sadly, but the ones I know are mostly great!

Ooh, a promo video sounds good. :D

So true

I think Sunblock's I'll Be Ready sounds like a more appropriate song to wake up to

:o

I just checked your two other previous charts (I'm wondering how I missed last year! :o ) Anyway, I'm really SHOCKED! Benassi, Telepopmusik, Freyia, Mikro, Moloko, Arcade Fire, Royskopp, Axwell, Juliet, Fischerspooner. Most of these rarities are favorites of mine as well.... Too good, George, too good! :o

This year's promo video is ready after all.

Full of cheesy transition effects, and somewhat large in size (almost 30mb), you can download it here.

I may post a low quality version sometime in the next few days, once I get round to managing this new video editor I downloaded.
