Grybop's Best of 2008 (#01)

Just like last time (and every year actually), my year-end chart contains songs that may have not been released as singles; in fact some of them may have not been released within the year at all.
It merely represents the songs I loved the most during the previous 12 months and started to like within that period, or shortly before.
This year it was all about dance and pop for me. Unashamedly. I have the usual list of contenders for my top 20 ready, which I will post soon. And what's good is that I've already decided on the #1 song. Phew!

Alphabeat - Fascination (Bimbo Jones full vocal mix)
The Angry kids vs. Bob Marley - Mr. Brown (Dylan Rhymes remix)

Cahill - Trippin On You
Colbie Caillat - Battle
Confused Crew - One bad apple / (Uniting Nations remix)
The Count & Sinden feat. Kid Sister - Beeper (Sunship vocal mix)
Chris Crocker - Piece of me
DJ Antoine - This time (Klaas remix)
Kemal Dogulu - Nedense Nedense

Ebony bones! - Don't fart on my heart
Kelly - Let me borrow that top
Kelly - shoes
The Knife - Pass this on
Luigi Masi - Strobelight (Wideboys remix)
MGMT - Kids

Kylie Minogue - In My Arms
Róisín Murphy - You Know Me Better
Petros - Predator

Portishead - Machine gun
The Presets - This boy's in love (Lifelike remix)
Rigas - Born Not To Run
Rihanna - Disturbia
Robbie Rivera feat Denise Rivera - Back to zero (Robbie Rivera's Juicy Miami vocal mix)
Robyn - Who's that girl (Seamus Haji remix)
Sash! feat. Stunt - Raindrops (Encore une fois) (Fonzerelli remix)
Sharam feat Daniel Bedingfield - The one
Sona- Aaja ve
Sonny J - Handsfree (if you hold my hand) (Phonat remix)
U2 - Wave of sorrow (Birdland)

first of all i'd like to point out I didn't dig music deep this year coz 1) was busyish and boreed 2) indie spilt over mainstream sorta did it for me so there's not much point of comparison.

Having said that, majority of the tunes on that vid I already downloaded when you charted them on your weekly. Your medley last year sounded friendlier as this year it's really filled with nastily nice whacked electro/remixes really that obviously needed good sound quality to be appreciated as opposed to the more direct playlist last year. I'm surprised about some omissions. but what the hell... I have 3 songs I'm rooting for for the TOP SPOT. one of which I will die for to see at the top. 8-) I love/LOVE about 20 songs there.

About the bad sound... well, it must be fixed by tomorrow, when the high quality option will be added.
20 songs? Woo! Curious about your picks, but you'd better tell me next month :p

I know what you mean, it was the same with me unfortunately. All radio and chart hits. Rarely did I sit down to look for any new music on my own.

I loved the Kelly "Let Me Borrow That Top" video that you had in your sig some time ago, but I hadn't seen/heard the "Shoes" followup (I assume it's a follow-up?).

As usual, there's a good mix of songs in there that I don't know, but plenty that I not only know, but like. I would like to hazard a guess at what your number 1 will be - to me one candidate stands out - but I'd probably get it wrong.

Great idea to make a video!

There were more nice songs, but my faves that I enjoyed the most this year are:

You Know Me Better
Disturbia
Raindrops (exactly the same fonzerelli remix  )
The One

If I made a chart of 2008 all these would be high in it 8-)
Never gonna give it up,
I never wanna stop...

Thanks for the comments! Predator is on your way T!

(edit: Just noticed your sig!)

And do "hazard a guess" for the #1 spot.

The presentation (with a little twist) will commence in a few days.

I still can't work out if this is some kind of post-modern joke on George's part. But then i saw another one on that list- the one-named character. He's actually serious. :-?

I predict Crock... to be number one! :x

Another one? Tranvestite? :p
Kelly is totally different to Crocker, (s)he's a professional comedian by the name of Liam Sullivan. Take those songs with a pinch of salt if you will.

Shoes came out first, it's the title track from Kelly's debut album. The vid also earned Liam a People's Choice Award for Best User Generated Video earlier this year.

OK, so the presentation is starting tonight - I'm avoiding using the word "countdown", as there won't be one. I'll be presenting all 20 songs in random order except the one at #1 which will naturally come last.

One last minute addition to the list edited into the first post, and that's Dylan Rhymes' remix of Mr. Brown.
