Power Rangers: Hunger Games studio to make new film

Lionsgate, the studio behind The Hunger Games and Twilight films, to develop the Nineties television series Power Rangers into a new franchise

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the Nineties US children’s television series in which five teenagers donned a rainbow of brightly-coloured costumes, developed special powers and defeated villains with karate-style kicks, has been picked up by Lionsgate, who are hoping to turn the concept into a lucrative new film franchise.
This isn’t the first time that the Power Rangers, who first appeared on television screens in 1993, have been brought to the big screen. 1997’s Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie saw a rebooted “turbo” version of the original five do battle with an evil, intergalactic, female pirate. The film was a flop at the box office, grossing only $8.1 million in the US, but Lionsgate, the company behind successful teen franchises such as Twilight, The Hunger Games and Divergent, are confident that, this time round, audiences will be more receptive to the high-kicking superheroes.
In a statement released yesterday, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said: "The Power Rangers stories and characters have been embraced by generations of audiences for more than 20 years, and today they are more powerful than ever."
Power Rangers creator Haim Saban, whose company Saban Entertainment will partner with Lionsgate to develop the project, added that: "Lionsgate is the perfect home for elevating our Power Rangers brand to the next level. In partnership with the Lionsgate team, we’re confident that we will capture the world of the Power Rangers and translate it into a unique and memorable motion picture phenomenon with a legacy all its own.”
Power Rangers isn’t the only television series of yesteryear to face reincarnation as a glossy big-screen blockbuster. Michael Bay’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is due to be released later this year, while Warner Bros. recently announced that they will be turning the Sixties televison series The Flintstones into an animated feature film, bringing iconic cartoon characters Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble back to the big screen. As with the Power Rangers, the new Flintstones adaptation has a Nineties predecessor: a Steven Spielberg produced live-action film version of the series was released in 1994.

I was obsessed with this as a kid, I probably kept watching it a lot longer than I should’ve. My fav seasons where the originals up to In Space but I watched up to Dino Thunder
Any Fans here??
I’m totally here for a new movie but maybe something less kiddy and more Young adult, most of the viewers will be kids who grew up with it.

I'm the biggest MMPR stan here. I'm excited about this but I don't have high expectations tbh. It'll probably be so detached from the original.

^I had those too. My favourite was Kimberly. And I always had like that secret crush on Jason, he was so buff.

The intro was all kinds of epic... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmOzHNgSw6Q

And the super nintendo game, loved it.

I also had those and a few others:

He was in 'Return of The Green Ranger' - end of Season 2. He gave me nightmares for years and I still think he's really creepy.

Also terrifying.
