The X-Men film franchise is expanding (the X-panded Universe, anyone?) with yet another spin-off going into production.
First up, there's Deadpool and its sequel, the horror-themed New Mutants and the TV shows Legion and Gifted... and now X-Force is totally happening too.
Production Weekly reports that the film will begin shooting in October, with both Ryan Reynolds and Josh Brolin returning as the Merc with a Mouth and his mate Cable, respectively.
The comics version of the X-Force flip-flop between a militant mutant team, and black ops offshoot of the X-Men, doing the jobs that would be a PR disaster for the main team.
Over the years, it's consisted of Psylocke, Colossus, Domino, Shatterstar (who had better be LGBTQ+ in Deadpool 2 or else), Wolfsbane, Danielle Moonstar, Archangel, X-23 and more.
Does that mean we'll see people like Olivia Munn, Ben Hardy, Stefan Kapiči, Zazie Beetz and Dafne Keen return? We'd say it's a fair bet that the actors from the Deadpool movies are a shoo-in, but the other stars played their characters in different continuities.
That was a joke. There is no continuity with this franchise.
X-Force will be executive produced by Ryan Reynolds, while Drew Goddard is stepping up from writing on the Deadpool sequel to directing the spin-off.
