The Room

Plym and I were just discussing this movie on Facebook. Anyone here seen it? It's a must-see if you love bad cinema. It's turning into another Rocky Horror Picture Show where people are going to see it over and over.

The Room is a 2003 independent film written and directed by its star, Tommy Wiseau, who is also credited on screen as both the movie's producer and executive producer. The principal cast includes Wiseau, Juliette Danielle, Greg Sestero, Philip Haldiman, Carolyn Minnott, and Robyn Paris. The Room tells the melodramatic story of a love triangle between a man, his future wife, and his best friend.

Without any studio support, Wiseau spent over $7 million on production and marketing for the film. Wiseau promotes the film as a black comedy and insists that its humor is actually intentional, although cast members have publicly disputed these claims[1] and many audience members generally view the film as a poorly-made drama.[2][3]

The Room has been cited by some critics as one of the worst films ever made,[4][5] and has been called "the Citizen Kane of bad movies."[6][7] After a brief run in Los Angeles, the film went on to develop a cult following and continues to have midnight screenings around the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
Check out this amazing scene (in which the dog is the best actor)

And this.... how did this not win tons of Oscars with such intensity (and check out him "striking a pose" 30 seconds in LOL)

I want to know where that 7 million dollars went.... I've seen stuff on Sundance Channel that cost a couple hundred thousand that seemed bigger budget than this, and it's not like it had any stars that command big salaries.

Well, they clearly paid the lead actor a couple of million for this talent.

Yep. The Room is actually playing more cities now.

Tommy Wiseau confirmed a Blu-Ray this year, and also a 3D restoration. I can see Star Wars in 3D, but The Room? Are they gonna make the doggie pop out so we can pat him as well when he goes "hi doggie"

If you get the chance to see it on the big screen... DO IT!!

The place was sold out and everyone was having fun. People threw spoons in many scenes, there was a balloon floating around. People came dressed as Johnny and Lisa, people went up to reenact certain scenes (Flower shop, Denny and thug), etc... It was big fun and I intend on going the next time it rolls around. I had no idea how fast its turning into the next Rocky Horror.

I hope you brought the spoons, like I told you!!!

I must dig out the DVD and watch this again. Sadly, it's never had a big-screen showing on this side of the Atlantic (to the best of my knowledge).

I get to New York so rarely that I don't think I'd devote a Saturday night to watching this in a movie theatre!!!

actually I live in Louisville KY, so The Room's cult has started spreading to other parts of the US (it only plays here every six months or so). Is Rocky Horror Picture Show popular there or is that also a US-only thing?

I noticed things I never saw before from the showing. There's a scene where Lisa is talking to her girlfriend and it looks like there's a chestburster from Alien fighting to get out of her neck

And yes, I brought lots of spoons LOL

Doh! Sorry - for some reason (?) I thought you were in New York.

I remember reading some time back that "The Room" was shown fairly regularly in NYC but I didn't know that it had spread!!!

Many years ago when I lived in Dublin, there was a cinema in Harolds Cross that showed RHPS semi regularly (a few times a year if I remember correctly) but I don't think that happens anymore. EDIT - it was EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT for almost 21 years until the Classic cinema closed down! link. Sadly, I never went...

Having just found this page, it would seem that showings are still a fairly regular occurrence in the UK! I've never heard or seen anything to suggest that it gets shown over here in The Netherlands, though I was once invited to a house party/screening of the movie, so it's not entirely unknown/forgotten.
