Spice World is a 1997 British musical comedy film directed by Bob Spiers, written by Kim Fuller and Jamie Curtis, and starring the best-selling pop girl group the Spice Girls. The lighthearted comedy, made in a similar vein to The Beatles' A Hard Day's Night, depicts fictional events leading up to a major concert at London's Royal Albert Hall, liberally interspersed with dream sequences and flashbacks as well as surreal moments and humorous asides.

The film premiered on 15 December 1997 and was released in British cinemas on Boxing Day, followed by the North American release (distributed by Columbia Pictures) on 23 January 1998.

Spice World proved to be a hit at the box office breaking the record for the highest-ever weekend debut for Super Bowl Weekend (25 January 1998) in the US, with box office sales of $10,527,222. In its complete run, the film took in US$75 million dollars at the worldwide box office, including $29,342,592 in the United States. Despite it being successful at the box office, the film garnered negative reviews. However, it has since become a cult classic due to home video releases.

Trivia
• Director Bob Spiers had been working in America on the Disney film That Darn Cat at the peak of the Spice Girls' popularity. He was unaware of the group when first offered the job until friend Jennifer Saunders advised that he take it. He arrived at a meeting with them in a New York hotel unaware of what they looked like.

• Gary Glitter filmed a four-minute cameo appearance as himself, but shortly before the film was to be released he was arrested on child porn offenses. The Spice Girls and the production team agreed that his cameo should be deleted from the final print. However, the girls were shown performing Glitter's "Leader of the Gang".

• Two real-world deaths after filming prompted edits to the film. Mentions of Princess Diana and scenes including the designer Gianni Versace were made in the film but cut out because they were both alive when the film was made but both died before its release.

• The film reunited Meat Loaf and Richard O'Brian who costarred in the 1975 classic film, The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Spice World (which follows a similar style to The Beatles' movie A Hard Day's Night) has the tagline, "You say you want a revolution?" which is a line in The Beatles' 1968 song "Revolution".

• In the photography scene the girls dress up as various characters which include: Jacqueline Kennedy; Charlie's Angels; Danny and Sandy from Grease; Wonder Woman; Madonna; a mod girl who resembles Twiggy; and a James Bond girl. Additionally, the girls dress up as each other: Victoria dresses as Baby Spice; Mel B as Ginger Spice; Mel C as Posh Spice; Emma as Scary Spice; and Geri as Sporty Spice.

I still enjoy watching this film! :D

I actually loved this and it's very of the time - I don't think anybody could get away with it these days but in the 90s and when they were at the very very top of their game this was great.

I can still remember when this came out, it's like they really hypnotized the world. Spice World was indeed very fitting, they were everywhere with the music videos, albums, merchandise, endorsements, appearances and performances, and people just wanted more. I remember how it was like during that time, I think the most asked question was "Who is your favorite Spice Girl?"  What a memorable moment in pop music history! :D :D

I used to watch this movie every single weekend! Every Saturday afternoon, I'd put the video on and watch it right through. I could quote the entire thing after awhile.

I eventually bought it on DVD a couple of years ago and every now and then I watch it for nostalgic purposes :D

My sister had this on VHS, so I saw it quite a few times back in the 90s

I haven't seen it in over a decade so all I can remember is:
- An evil manager guy
- Them doing some sort of boot camp
- There's a bomb on the bus!
- "Bloody Sunday drivers, it's only Saturday!"

The boot camp with Michael Barrymore! All he did was yell at them

LOL at the last line, Victoria was hilarious in this movie, she actually has some great acting skills.

My favourite part is Geri and Mel B playing chess and they don't know the rules

this film is legendary. Okay so it’s basically a period piece nowadays, but it is perfect if you ever want to step back into 90s and see the Spice Girls at the height of Spicemania.

The thing is, they aren’t even playing themselves - they play their characters - Scary, Baby, Ginger, Posh and Sporty, and that’s exactly how everyone remembers the Spice Girls.

The amount of cameos is unreal, the storyline fun and fluffy, and the film has its genuine funny moments:

Scary Spice: Does anyone know how to deliver a baby?

Ginger Spice: Don't worry, I know all about home delivery.

Scary Spice: Yeah, right.

Ginger Spice: Well, I read it in a book. Okay, the first thing to do is put your legs together!

Scary Spice: Well that's a bit late! She should have done that nine months ago!
Posh: Hold onto your knickers, girls!
Posh: Bloody Sunday drivers! It's only Saturday!
Emma: But we can't dance like that.
Mr. Step: I know. I've seen your videos!
Victoria: It's always the same. I never know what to wear.
Mel C: It must be so hard for you, Victoria. I mean, having to decide whether to wear the little Gucci dress, the little Gucci dress, or... the little Gucci dress!
Emma: I don't want to be nice all the time. Maybe I could slap somebody, like Victoria
I don’t care what anyone says, if you’re having friends over for drinks and movie night, this is the best one to put on once you’re all a bit pissed

Take That have always taken themselves too seriously. Gary was a knob back then

The Spice Girls planned the movie before they were even signed. Simon Fuller got his sister/brother (I forget which) to start the script before Wannbe even came out.
