I know we have lgbt news topic, but thought this deserved topic on its own. Wtf Murica??????

The US is one of just 13 countries to have voted against a United Nations resolution condemning the death penalty for having gay sex.

Although the vote passed, America joined countries such as China, Iraq and Saudi Arabia in opposing the move.

The Human Rights Council resolution condemned the “imposition of the death penalty as a sanction for specific forms of conduct, such as apostasy, blasphemy, adultery and consensual same-sex relations”.

The 13 states to oppose the resolution were Botswana, Burundi, Egypt, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, China, India, Iraq, Japan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the US and the United Arab Emirates.

The vote was introduced by eight countries - Belgium, Benin, Costa Rica, France, Mexico, Moldova, Mongolia and Switzerland – and supported by countries around the world including the UK, Congo, Kyrgyzstan and Bolivia.
I'm quite surprised by some of these votes, on both sides.

Next step for Trump is to make one of the televangelists as the official UN representative. Pat Robinson preferably.

Disgusting, told y’all the US is not the great country people like to make it seem to be  and it’s getting worse with Trump

anyway, I think u should change the info/title to “countries” not just the US, cause it was by vote and there were other countries who chose the same...I’m surprised Japan is there, they seemed to be very liberal people but I guess not :o

My partner works for the UN and is not happy at all as are many people

He may not be, but he isn't exactly gay friendly either. A homphobe is a homophobe, whether you're are a little or a lot.

What an embarrassment. But as someone pointed, what to expect when the country is run by 2 of the biggest fools ever? Mike Pence is an American cancer. He's even worse than Trump and did horrible things as Governor of Indiana.

Japan is extremely socially backward, especially compared to how technologically advanced and economically developed of a nation they are. They‘re really quite unique in this sense.

I also thought Japan was the lone WTF addition to that list. Especially considering the amount of LGBT-ish elements present in anime and manga.

I think it's embarrassing tbh.

We're too far forward with LGBT equality for Trump and his stooges to now attempt to roll it all back.

The U fxxxxing S? Like seriously? I’d rather live in Saudi Arabia where woman can’t drive and men are entitled to sex than have this in the US

On a lighter note, I hope there is a public gay orgy outside the White House

Thanks Serby Serb. This deserved its own topic!

It's a fact that homosexuality was much more accepted before the Christian times, even in African countries, and Romans and Greeks had (weird) gay rituals. Also, one Native American tribe had 5 genders before Europeans came and started punishing them in the name of religion, in what they thought was helping them.

I've been to the US and China three times each but seriously, this vote is unacceptable and inexcusable! I know that they want to stick to the death penalty as a form of punishment but how can they vote that eay? It's disgusting and honestly, I will not visit those countries until Trump's either gone or the other countries change their mind.

I do "understand" why super conservative states vote against it like Egypt or Saudi-Arabia but the US? Oo Japan? Oo I'm in shock!
