Meanwhile, Foy issued the following statement on the back of this case:Adam Sandler has come under fire from viewers after he was seen repeatedly touching the leg of British actress Claire Foy on The Graham Norton Show. The Crown star looked “awkward” as she pushed the Hollywood actor’s hand from her thigh while they sat on the chat show sofa.
Actress Emma Thompson, who was also a guest on the show which aired on Friday, appeared to notice Mr Sandler’s behaviour and glare at him disapprovingly. Mr Sandler’s representatives have since described the action as “a friendly gesture” and said he made a similar gesture to Dustin Hoffman on the Jimmy Fallon Show earlier this month.
At one point during the show Ms Foy, 33, appeared to squirm and gesture Mr Sandler’s hand away as he touched her leg twice in quick succession. Viewers reacted on Twitter saying the 51-year old married actor appeared to have “no social awareness of how awkward” he was making Mrs Foy, who plays a young Queen Elizabeth in the popular Netflix series. Later in the show Mr Sandler also touched the leg of Emma Thompson, his co-star in the Netflix film The Meyerowitz Stories. The actress has been an outspoken critic of the disgraced film producer, Harvey Weinstein, whom she has described as "a predator".
More than 50 women have now made allegations ranging from sexual harassment to rape against Weinstein, with the latest coming from The Sopranos actress, Annabella Sciorra, yesterday. Weinstein is currently subject to police investigations in both the US and UK. The scandal around the Hollywood producer has prompted thousands of women to share their experiences of sexual harassment online using the #MeToo hashtag.
I can't believe someone could even see something wrong on Adam's gesture! People are so overreacting lately and seem to have lost sight or any ground of normality. What is the world coming to?"We don't believe anything was intended by Adam's gesture and it has caused no offence to Claire,"
