Problems or questions regarding UKMIX

No issues for me in that particular topic, though like nympho - the occasional topic is occasionally a bit slower.

What I have found is that is seems that accessing a late page in threads with a lot of content is very slow if no one else has accessed that page in a while. For example, I tried a "random" page (between 1800 and 1900) in the "Song of the Day" thread and it took a full 15 seconds for it to load (until it was shown at all, so completely unrelated to slow YouTube embed loading). Loading the same page again shortly afterwards takes less than 1 second. Accessing the second-to-last (more rarely the very last, because many people look at it) of Tansike's chart thread often takes close to 10 seconds. I don't know if this has gotten worse recently but it definitely feels like it.

Edit: The search function is also super slow when searching for something that gives a lot of results (not that there is much reason normally to do such searches); I tried "Madonna" and it took almost a toilet break (1 minute and 23 seconds) until any result was shown (and it's also very slow to access the result pages). On the other hand, searching for something that only gets a few or a moderate amount of results is blazing fast (tried "Annalise" with 6 pages of results and it took < 0.5 seconds).

So if I’m now “legend” status and I want to change that “legend” to something else...who do I PM to do that? :D

Haven't had any problems with the site being slow except for one case, and I've been wondering for a while if it's only me: when I click on "view your posts", lots of times it takes ages to load. It's even worse when I'm using ukmix on my phone, sometimes it doesn't load at all. Not sure when this started exactly, maybe 3-6 months ago.

At the moment, username changes are not permitted. We did give everybody the opportunity to change just under two years ago so there may be another chance in the future.

The front page isn't working, or is it just me?

I'm doing some updates today (and probably more next week) as a result of the Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities.

Technical details: There was a problem with the Redis Docker image not working correctly with the new Ubuntu kernel; updating Redis fixed it (once I tracked it down).

I can only access UKMix if I use https:// in the url. So for example viewforum.php?f=5 works while http://www.ukmix.org/forums/viewforum.php?f=5 does not.

Edit: the first link has shortened itself to a direct forum link. It's exactly the same url as the second but prefaced with https:// rather than http://

Over the past hour I've been installing further updates to protect against the Meltdown attack; this has involved restarting the servers and database a few times, so if you had some intermittent problems accessing UKMIX, this'll be why.

All finished for today though. :)
