The "Europarade" - 2014 to ????

.As another new page begins, the usual reminder that everyone can start each weekday with the highlights of two archive Europarades, normally nineteen years apart, counted down by REX on Radio VRD from 0900 to 1100 CET (8.00am to 10.00am UK time) - although, because all of the charts of March 1982 have previously been featured, it's the hits of a week from the very earliest year, 1976, that are playing at this moment ! The shows can be listened to worldwide using either of the two buttons just below "Radio VRD @ Streaming" and just above "Radio VRD @ TuneIn" on the Radio VRD homepage, http://radiovrd.be/ .

Seventy different tracks are in the top fifteens of Western Europe this week - and fourteen of the Italian top fifteen are in the 2,130th Europarade, giving that country the greatest representation this time. Among eight brand new entries, Zedd and Alessia Cara arrive with the eleventh Europarade hit entitled "Stay" (almost all of them different songs!) by charting below the top ten in five different countries - while Drake makes the highest debut thanks to success in Denmark, the UK and Ireland with "Passionfruit". However, retaining a score of 162 points out of a possible 165 by staying in the top three everywhere yet again, Ed Sheeran is the Europarade number one for an eleventh week with "Shape Of You".

Sixty-three different tracks are in the top fifteens of Western Europe this week - and the whole of the Austria top fifteen are in the 2,131st Europarade. However, none of the seven brand new entries are scoring there - the highest is from Julia Michaels, successful in Belgium, Denmark, Ireland and the UK with "Issues". Meanwhile, Clean Bandit featuring Zara Larsson have the biggest climber, as "Symphony" is now charting in Ireland and the Netherlands as well as the UK - and Luis Fonsi featuring Daddy Yankee are still at number one in Italy and Spain with "Despacito", so Ed Sheeran is stuck at number two in those countries with "Shape Of You". But that is at number one everywhere else yet again, so its score increases to match its previous best of 163 points out of a possible 165 in its twelfth week as the Europarade number one!

The number one in the top 11,111 most successful chart hits in Western Europe between 1976 and 2015 spent more than twice as long in the chart as almost every other track – even the runner-up by Gotye featuring Kimbra, which was in for sixty weeks.

Only ever popular in one country – Denmark – it was in the top five there for more than two years, and it was the Danish number one for a total of sixty-three weeks ! Its highest position during 126 weeks in the Europarade was number 16, but it scored a total of 1,837 points.

It is a three-track CD of songs from the comedy play “Mr. Nice Guy”, sung by a Danish actress who has been performing since she was eight years old, and has won several awards – Trine Dyrholm. The three songs are “Stille”, “Speljet”, and this one – “Avenuen”.

Sixty-five different tracks are in the top fifteens of Western Europe this week - and Jason DeRulo featuring Ty Dolla $ign and Nicki Minaj have the biggest climber in the 2,132nd Europarade. One of the countries in which they are doing well with "Swalla" is Austria, all of whose top fifteen are charting this time. The highest of four new entries in the Europarade is the new Austrian number one - "Hey Bro" by Marco Wagner and Dave Brown - while "Despacito", still number one in Italy and Spain for Luis Fonsi featuring Daddy Yankee, rises into the top five. Meanwhile, Ed Sheeran's "Shape Of You" is at number two in these three countries - but still at number one in the other eight, so 162 points out of a possible 165 means that this remains Western Europe's clear favourite for a thirteenth consecutive week . . . . .

15th - 16th April 2017

Sixty different tracks appear in the top fifteens of Western Europe this week - and six of them are brand new entries in the 2,133rd Europarade. The highest comes from Harry Styles, who comes straight into the top ten with "Sign Of The Times" - while Clean Bandit featuring Zara Larsson climb there in their fourth week with "Symphony". Meanwhile, Kygo and Selena Gomez are charting everywhere with "It Ain't Me" - but remain in the runner-up spot as [b}Ed Sheeran[/b]'s score for "Shape Of You" stays once again at 162 points out of a possible 165. Number two in Italy, Spain and the UK. and number one everywhere else, that spends a fourteenth week as the Europarade number one . . . . .

I will reach two landmarks shortly after each other.
Today - Monday April 24th 2017 - I have had my 700th radio show about the Europarade. As I present two charts each show this means that I have 1400 Europarades covered.
The next landmark is for the day after tomorrow.

Today - Wednesday April 26th 2017 - I have had my 702nd radio show about the Europarade. As I present two charts each show, this means that I have 1404 Europarades covered. As 1404 is 27 times 52 this also means that I have 27 from the 38 years from the period 1977-2014 covered.

.Congratulations on reaching these further landmarks ! However, we still can't congratulate anybody else for replacing Ed Sheeran as the Europarade number one just yet . . . . .

Sixty-two different tracks are in the top fifteens of Western Europe this week - and fourteen of the top fifteens of Denmark, the UK and the Netherlands give those countries the greatest share of the 2,134th Europarade. Boef and Scarlet Pleasure have the biggest climbers, while Kendrick Lamar arrives in the top ten with the highest of five brand new entries. And the top five switch around slightly, with Luis Fonsi featuring Daddy Yankee moving into the runner-up spot, as "Despacito" is now at number one in the four countries in which "Shape Of You" is at number two for Ed Sheeran. But he's still at number one everywhere else, so 161 points out of a possible 165 means that the Europarade has the same number one for a fifteenth week . . . . .

29th - 30th April 2017

.Last week's Spanish chart has had to be used again this week, as no new one has yet been published.

Sixty-four different tracks are in the top fifteens of Western Europe this week - and fourteen of the top fifteens of Austria, Germany, Denmark, the UK and Ireland are in the 2,135th Europarade, giving those countries the greatest representation this time. The highest of six brand new entries comes from Shawn Mendes, already scoring in most of these countries plus the Netherlands with "There's Nothing Holdin' Me back" - while Jason DeRulo rises into the top ten with "Swalla", this week's biggest climber. And Ed Sheeran is suddenly only at number one in one country, Ireland, with "Shape Of You" - but he is still at number two in all of the others ! So 155 points is enough for that to remain the Europarade number one for a sixteenth week . . . . .

Eleven of the sixty-nine hits in the top fifteens of Western Europe are by the same Congo-born rapper Damso, who dominates the top end of the French chart and has seven out of the ten new entries in the 2,136th Europarade. Maluma also arrives from Spain, and Kesi featuring Benny Jamz from Denmark - but crashing straight into the top five is a multi-artist collaboration led by DJ Khaled, "I'm The One". And, after sixteen weeks at number one, Ed Sheeran still has an impressive 151 points, remaining in the top five everywhere with "Shape Of You". However, replacing him are Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee, whose recent release of a new mix including Justin Bieber must have played a part in their song rising to the top in its sixteenth week in the Europarade. Scoring 160 points out of a possible 165 by being at number four in the UK, number three in Belgium and number one everywhere else, that's "Despacito".

13th - 14th May 2017

01 02 16 DESPACITO - LUIS FONSI / DADDY YANKEE (A15/B13/CH15/D15/DK15/E15/F15/GB12/I15/IRL15/NL15)

Sixty-six different tracks are in the top fifteens of Western Europe this week - and five of the eight still in the French top fifteen for Damso remain in the 2,137th Europarade. Switzerland and Belgium have the greatest representation, with fourteen hits present for each - and the Belgian Eurovision entry from Blanche joins the Italian one from Francesco Gabbani in the chart, one of four brand new entries. But there's no sign of the winner from Portugal yet . . . . . Meanwhile, Bibi H. from Germany makes the strongest debut . . . . . Maluma from Colombia and Martin Jensen from Denmark have the joint biggest climbers . . . . . and Ed Sheeran stays in the runner-up position, as "Shape of You" is number four in Austria and the UK but still in the top three everywhere else. And Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee, with some help from Justin Bieber, score an impressive 163 points out of 165. Now at number one everywhere except Belgium, "Despacito" is Western Europe's favourite for a second week.

Seventy-three different tracks are in the top fifteens of Western Europe this week - and fourteen hits from Austria give that country the greatest share of the 2,138th Europarade. Miley Cyrus is doing well there, and in the UK and Ireland, with "Malibu" - the highest of eight brand new entries. While an early favourite in this year's Eurovision Song Contest clings on in for a fourteenth week for Italy's Francesco Gabbani, the winner from Portugal is new for Salvador Sobral - but it's only scoring in Switzerland. The highest ranking contestant is Belgium's Blanche - "City Lights" is a big new entry in Austria, and now climbs to number one in her homeland. This means that Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee, with a little help from Justin Bieber, can't climb higher than number two in Belgium - but "Despacito" is at number one everywhere else ! With 164 points out of a possible 165, that's the Europarade number one for a third week.

Today - Thursday June 1st 2017 - I have had my 728th radio show about the Europarade. As I present two charts each show, this means that I have 1456 Europarades covered. As 1456 is 28 times 52 this also means that I have 28 from the 38 years from the period 1977-2014 covered.

Congratulations on completing another year - and now, another week in which the continent's favourite is so close to a maximum score . . . . . .

Seventy-three different tracks are in the top fifteens of Western Europe this week - and fourteen of the Swiss top fifteen are fourteen of the top fifteen in the 2,139th Europarade. They include the higher of two re-entries and the biggest of six brand new entries - "Be Mine" from Ofenbach and "OK" by Robin Schulz featuring James Blunt. Meanwhile, the bottom half of the top ten rearrange themselves slightly, while the top five stay exactly as they were. Belgium is still the only country with a different number one from all the rest, as Blanche's "City Lights" continue to shine brightly there - so "Despacito" remains one point away from a maximum score. Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee, with help from Justin Bieber, have the continent's biggest hit for a fourth week.

3rd - 4th June 2017

01 01 19 DESPACITO - LUIS FONSI / DADDY YANKEE (A15/B14/CH15/D15/DK15/E15/F15/GB15/I15/IRL15/NL15)
