Congratulations of reaching another landmark - and, as we're at the top of another new page, the usual reminder that the shows, with the highlights of two archive Europarades, normally nineteen years apart, can be heard on Radio VRD from 0900 to 1100 CET (8.00am to 10.00am UK time) every weekday, using either of the two buttons just below "Radio VRD @ Streaming" and just above "Radio VRD @ TuneIn" on http://radiovrd.be/ - the Radio VRD homepage. On air at the moment, the hits of 3rd/4th August 2002 . . . .

( No new Spanish chart yet this week - so last week's is used again ) .

Seventy-four different tracks are in the top fifteens of Western Europe this week - and thirteen of the Belgian, German and Swiss top fifteens give those countries the greatest representation in the 2,150th Europarade. There are only two new entries - "Breathing" by Oscar and the Wolf from Belgium and "Sun Comes Up" for Rudimental featuring James Arthur from the UK - although Lil Kleine featuring Boef have a higher re-entry with "Krantenwijk". Meanwhile, Sigala featuring Ella Eyre have the biggest climber with "Came Here For Love", and eight of the top ten shift around slightly while the numbers one and ten remain as they were. Those are the only two number ones of the last seven months - Ed Sheeran spent sixteen weeks there with "Shape Of You", still in the top ten after thirty-one weeks - and Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee featuring Justin Bieber now have their fifteenth week as the continent's favourite. Still at number one in five countries, and in the top five in the other six, "Despacito" is sixty points ahead of its closest challenger . . . . .

Seventy-three different tracks are in the top fifteens of Western Europe this week - and fourteen of the Swiss top fifteen appear in the 2,151st Europarade. There are four new entries - and the highest by far is from Pink, crashing straight into the top ten after a long absence with "What About Us". Also climbing to a new peak there is Dua Lipa with her second solo hit "New Rules". But there's not much change in the rest of the top ten, and the top four remain exactly as they were. J Balvin and Willy William are now scoring everywhere with "Mi Gente" - but Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee (featuring Justin Bieber) are still at number one in four countries and no lower than number six in any of the other seven. Thirty points ahead, it's a sixteenth week as the continent's most successful hit for "Despacito".

Seventy-four different tracks are in the top fifteens of Western Europe this week - and, suddenly charting in eight of the eleven countries, Justin Bieber and Bloodpop have the highest by far of five new entries, crashing straight into the top five of the 2,152nd Europarade with "Friends". There isn't very much other change in the top ten, however - although J Balvin and Willy William are now at number one in the Netherlands as well as Spain, and are scoring everywhere else too with "Mi Gente". They are now just fourteen points behind Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee featuring Justin Bieber - as "Despacito" becomes only the second hit in the entire history of the Europarade to spend as many as seventeen weeks at number one, and the first to do so consecutively . . . . .

Seventy-five different tracks are in the top fifteens of Western Europe this week - and fourteen of the German top fifteen, all of them in the top fifteen of the 2,153rd Europarade, give that country the greatest representation this week. The two highest of seven brand new entries are scoring there, as Raf Camora are also doing well in Austria with "Primo", and Taylor Swift crashes straight into the top three, suddenly charting in eight countries with "Look What You Made Me Do". But look what the music buyers, downloaders and streamers of the continent have done - they have kept Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee featuring Justin Bieber three points ahead of J Balvin and Willy William, Both Spanish songs are still scoring everywhere - "Mi Gente" spends a fourth week at number two, while it is an unprecedented eighteenth consecutive week at number one for "Despacito" !

CZB -- 'Despacito' is the 2nd Single to spend 18 consecutive Weeks at No.1 in the Europarade Chart. In 1991,
Bryan Adams also achieved it, with '(Everything I Do) I Do It For You'.

Link:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_E ... ts_of_1991

Francis Plaiy took the Europarade Charts back to the late 1950's. His calculations revealed 3 further Hits,
with 18, (or more), No.1 Weeks:

A)... 'It's Now Or Never -- Elvis Presley -- (1960-1961) -- 19 No.1 Weeks -- (Consecutive)

B)... 'In The Summertime' -- Mungo Jerry -- (1970) -- 19 No.1 Weeks -- (Consecutive)

C)... 'Fernando' -- ABBA -- (1976) -- 18 No.1 Weeks -- (Non-Consecutive -- 15 Weeks + 3 Weeks)

The 'Official' Europarade Chart began in late May 1976. The 1st No.1 was 'Save Your Kisses For Me' by
Brotherhood Of Man - 6 Weeks at No.1. But, Francis found that, when you take the Chart back further,
that Hit was not as big in Europe as 'Fernando'. It was unable to displace the ABBA Hit from No.1, and
spent 13 Weeks at No.2. That made it once of the Europarade's biggest ever No.2 Hits.

Francis also revealed 3 further Europarade No.1 Hits for ABBA, by taking the Chart back further:
'Waterloo' - 9 Weeks, 'S.O.S.' - 4 Weeks, and 'Mamma Mia' - 6 Weeks. With 'Fernando, that gave
ABBA 4 more No.1 Europarade Hits, than the 13, that they got from May 1976 onwards.

No - that Wikipedia page relates to the "European Top 100" which was compiled on a completely different basis, giving far too much weight to the UK, France and Germany and probably almost nothing to most other countries.

In 2008 the Europarade charts for all of the broadcast years were posted on UKmix, mainly from notes that I and others had made when listening to those broadcasts (in 1991, on Metro Radio and SR1). The Europarades for the weeks in which Bryan Adams was at number one start here:

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=52565&start=109

and there are sixteen of them, starting with 3rd August and finishing with 16th November.

CZB - Thanks for your reply. I did not realise that the European Top 100 'weighted' the Weekly scores, to give more
Points for Hits in the UK & Germany etc. So, I accept - of course - that the 1991 Bryan Adams Hit, 'only' had 16 Weeks
at No.1 & not the 18, that the European Top 100 shows.

However, Francis Plaiy uses the same Points System as you, and therefore, you too would get these three 18+ Weeks
No.1's, if you took your Charts back to the end of the 1950's. As well as 4 extra No.1's for ABBA. (Let's face it, by only
starting in late May 1976, we see Elvis Presley, Cliff Richard, The Beatles & the Rolling Stones, losing out on a lot of No.1
Euro Parade Hits. As well as The Sweet, in the 1971 to 1975 period).

So, you'd very likely also get these 3 'Mega No'1's, if you took the Euro Parade Charts back to the end of the 1950's:

NOTE -- I'm not - in any way - saying that your Chart is not credible or 'wrong'. It is 100% right, from the end of May 1976,
to the present day. I believe that in the earlier Charts, Francis uses more European Countries, than the 'Official' Euro Parade
Chart uses. Hence why he gets 'Fernando at No.1 for so long & 'Save Your Kisses For Me' cannot get beyond No.2.

Eighty-one different tracks are in the top fifteens of Western Europe this week - and the twelve biggest hits are all scoring in Austria and Germany. These countries have the greatest representation in the 2,154th Europarade, each with one other success further down. Meanwhile, the highest of five brand new entries is scoring in Ireland and the UK for Camila Cabello featuring Young Thug, while Pink moves up into the top ten and Dua Lipa advances into the top five. "New Rules" is the new number one in the Netherlands, the first country in which Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee (featuring Justin Bieber) have dropped out of the top fifteen - but J Balvin and Willy William are still charting there, and everywhere else. Ten points ahead, "Mi Gente" overtakes "Despacito" to become the 466th Europarade number one.

Congratulations on completing another year - they go by so quickly ! :D

Eighty-three different tracks are in the top fifteens of Western Europe this week - and the entire Austrian top fifteen appear in the 2,155th Europarade. Their new number one from Kay One featuring Pietro Lombardi, also number one in Germany and number seven in Switzerland, just misses making a top ten new entry - unlike Sam Smith and Zayn featuring Sia. Meanwhile, six other new arrivals further down include four by Ninho - a rapper who is suddenly dominating the top end of the French chart, in an Ed Sheeran kind of way. As "Shape Of You" is down and out from 20 to 71 after thirty-five weeks, "Despacito" is now the longest runner, but out of the top five, for Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee (featuring Justin Bieber) - and, after many weeks of high-scoring number ones, ninety-two points from nine countries is enough for J Balvin and Willy William to stay in pole position for a second week with "Mi Gente".

23rd - 24th September 2017

01 01 11 MI GENTE - J BALVIN AND WILLY WILLIAM (A10/CH8/D12/DK9/E13/GB5/I14/IRL6/NL15)

Eighty-four different tracks are in the top fifteens of Western Europe this week - and fourteen of the Dutch top fifteen appear in the 2,156th Europarade. None of the four new entries are scoring in the Netherlands, however - not even "Rockstar" by Post Malone featuring 21 Savage, which is suddenly doing well in six countries and comes straight into the top ten. Meanwhile, J Balvin and Willy William's success is still more widespread than that of any other hit - Belgium is the only country in which "Mi Gente" has dropped out of the top fifteen. But, with better placings in eight countries, eighty-nine points is sufficient for Pink to earn her sixth chart-topper overall, and her fourth as a solo artist. "What About Us" becomes the 467th Europarade number one !

Unfortunately, the https://www.top40.nl/ website has changed since last week, with the disappointing result that the new Dutch chart cannot be seen at this time on Friday mornings any more ! It is suggested on some pages that it is available earlier to those with an account at that website - but I tried to set one up, without any apparent success. So it looks as if my compilation and posting of the new Europarade each Friday will have to be delayed by about nine hours from now on, until after I can hear the new Dutch chart on Radio 538 in the afternoon . . . . .

Ninety-one different tracks are in the top fifteens of Western Europe this week, the highest number for quite some time. This, however, is largely because none of the new French top fifteen are scoring anywhere else - and fourteen of them are by the same rapper, Niska. "Reseaux" has been in the Europarade for eleven weeks, but is now joined by five others. Meanwhile, the two highest of six other brand new arrivals are from Logic featuring Alessia Cara and Khalid and from Lauv. The latter is one of fourteen tracks charting in Germany appearing in the 2,157th Europarade, giving that country the greatest representation this week. Two hits have ninety-two points each - so, alphabetically by title, the new and 468th Europarade number one is "Rockstar" by Post Malone featuring 21 Savage.
