Not bad numbers for Florence + the Machine!
Franklin’s music profoundly touched and changed the world, because over and over it offered that bridge to salvation, to freedom.

NEW RELEASES: LIONS ON THE LOOSE

Beastmode 2 (Freebandz/Epic), the second volume of Future’s mixtape series, surprise-dropped on 7/6 amid a sparse holiday release schedule, will be the top debut on the HITS’ Top 50 Albums Chart next Friday. Here’s what we know today.

Future (Freebandz/Epic) 50-60k total activity (streaming only)
Meek Mill (Atlantic) 22-26k, 4-7k album

I thought the interest in Meek Mill would be higher after his release from prison

Yes I know but I thought 50k is possible at least with SPS but it's harder with only 4 songs so I maybe overestimated his hype

Have we had a chart topper that was stream only?

I remember our first download-only... and that was something spectacular.
Stream only... wow.

Thought a 400k figure (pure sales) was on lock for him.
There is no cd release. Just digital albums which sales are falling for.
His actual sales dropped by like 80%.
Billboard wrote:Views sold 851,000 albums in its first week, all from digital downloads. (The CD didn’t go on sale until its second week of availability). Comparatively, Scorpion sold 160,000 copies, all via digital download. Scorpion will be issued on CD on July 13.

I believe Kanye's Life of Pablo was the first to do it. And then Chance's Coloring Book is also stream-only.

Drake has the No. 1 seller of the week and still has a 90:10 SPS/sales ratio :o . Interesting how Drake's fans completely stopped buying copies of his albums: 'Thank You Later' used to sell 160k copies in week 2 back in the day. 'Nothing Was The Same' did slightly less.

Drake still has the #1 selling album this week with 25-28k... that tells you about the state of relevance regarding pure sales.

His SPS tells the real story.

He was selling loads back before streaming took off. Obviously if streaming didn't take off and he was as big as he currently is with this many hits he'd be doing his SPS numbers in pure. He transitioned with times.

@innocenteyes: Of course, streaming has an undeniable effect on charts. Drake's case is interesting though because he didn't lose fans over the course of time (as is the case with most artists who are a few years into their career) but keep them and rather have them move to another music consumption format instead. And that is a rare development actually.

I just noticed that, apart from The Greatest Showman, every album of the top 20 prediction gets the majority of its points from streaming. The current method of transforming streaming numbers into album-equivalent unit seems to be outdated when you don't just have the odd example of one album getting 90% of its points of streaming but it actually affecting most of them (Post Malone, Maroon 5, XXXTentacion, Lil Baby, Migos, Juice WRLD, Cardi B, Drake). It doesn't help that it feels like those albums are only listened to by a small demographic group of Americans, making me wonder what the majority of people (= above the age of 35) actually listens to...

Over 75% of the albums chart gets majority units from streaming now. Even Country albums.
2018’s Mid-Year Top 10 Country Albums (Based on Overall Equivalent Album Units*)
1. Jason Aldean, Rearview Town (522,000) [63% pure album sales]
2. Kane Brown, Kane Brown (432,000) [28% pure album sales]
3. Luke Combs, This One’s For You (394,000) [23% pure album sales]
4. Chris Stapleton, Traveller (326,000) [41% pure album sales]
5. Thomas Rhett, Life Changes (325,000) [20% pure album sales]
6. Keith Urban, Graffiti U (277,000) [72% pure album sales]
7. Luke Bryan, What Makes You Country (257,000) [52% pure album sales]
8. Chris Stapleton, From A Room: Volume 1 (241,000) [63% pure album sales]
9. Brett Young, Brett Young (235,000) [11% pure album sales]
10. Chris Stapleton, From A Room: Volume 2 (227,000) [78% pure album sales]
Sales are just not relevant anymore with the general public.

The 35+ audience consumes radio in the biggest numbers. However, I'm sure many also stream, however a 40 year old probably listens to less music per day than a 18 year old, which is one of many reasons why acts with younger-audience dominate streaming.

The top 10 of the sales-only chart easily could've looked like that in Germany in an average week. It was a very slow sales week in an already distressed music market as the No. 5 album rose 4 spots with a 35% drop - something that usually only happens in the week after Christmas or Black Friday. So let's hope that new releases will soon make up for that.
