CHART PREVIEW: FOUNTAIN DRINK

Astralwerks/Capitol's Halsey will top our SPS chart with a total in the range of 110k+ this week with her hopeless fountain kingdom. The second edition of Epic AF and Nashville breakout Luke Combs will also bow in the Top 5.

Columbia's Roger Waters lands in the Top 10 with his controversial news set, racking up about 32k, while U2's Joshua Tree reissue (Interscope) scores around 28k.

Stay tuned for our finalized chart very soon.

Not bad for an album banned from the shelves of Wal*Mart and Target; and not featured in new releases on Spotify and generally barred from radio; and with the vinyl postponed due to re-pressing after clash with Sony!
Well done! 8-)

CHART PREVIEW: LET'S DO THE NUMBERS

Katy Perry's Witness (Capitol) lands at #1 on our SPS chart this week with 187k+.

Two other debuts, from Capitol Nashville's Lady Antebellum and TDE/RCA's SZA, also earn spots in the Top 5 with 60k+ and 55k+, respectively. Top Dawg Entertainment has two titles near the top, it should be noted, as TDE/Interscope's Kendrick Lamar remains at #2 with 71k.

Virgin/CMG's Rise Against, which bows at #11 with 27k+, is the Top 20's only other debut.

Stay tuned for more numbers when our chart goes final.

THE CHART BEARS WITNESS TO PERRY'S POWER

Friday, June 16, 2017

Capitol star Katy Perry has officially scored her third #1 debut, as Witness tops the Sales Plus Streaming (SPS) Chart with 187k. This means back-to-back chart-toppers for Team Barnett, following Halsey's #1 last week.

As for the other big bows, Capitol Nashville’s Lady Antebellum rounds out the Top 3 with 60k for Heart Break, and TDE/RCA’s SZA follows at #4 with 55k for Ctrl.

And a little further down, at #11, Virgin’s Rise Against appears with 27k for Wolves.

The steadily selling albums from TDE/Interscope’s Kendrick Lamar and Atlantic’s Ed Sheeran, meanwhile, maintain their last-week positions, holding at #3 and #5, respectively.

With Lamar and SZA both in the Top 5, drinks are on TDE chief Top Dawg.

Post Malone’s Stoney (Republic), breaks back into the Top 10 in its 27th week out. The rapper’s current single, “Congratulations,” which features the red-hot Quavo, is #7 on this week’s Song Revenue Chart, as well as the Streaming Songs Chart. At the same time, labelmate The Weeknd, whose “Reminder” is climbing up the Rhythm radio Top 15 right now, makes his return to the SPS Top 20 with Starboy (XO/Republic).

Lindsey Buckingham & Christine McVie’s self-titled set (out via Atlantic) debuts just outside the Top 20, at #22. On the Album Sales Chart, however, the duo is sittin’ pretty at #6.

Speaking of album sales, potentially the most noteworthy move on that chart belongs to the cast of Broadway play Dear Evan Hansen, as the soundtrack re-enters at #23 (up over 200%), powered by the Tony Awards.

Sticking with SPS, you’ll notice that the RCA-helmed soundtrack to family film Trolls (not to be confused with a documentary about our current political administration) jumps #28-21, in tandem with the movie’s arrival at Netflix.

Then there’s Disney’s Beauty and the Beast soundtrack, which re-enters at #31 as the DVD is released.

And at #33, you’ll find a familiar face. Following Taylor Swift’s decision to put her music back up on Spotify, her 1989 (Big Machine) re-enters the chart.

When it comes to the SPS marketshare battle, UMG leads with 64%, SME is #2 with 20% and WMG follows with 16%.

Streeting this week are albums from Lava/Republic’s Lorde, Def Jam’s 2 Chainz, Southeastern's Jason Isbell, Epic’s Big Boi, BMG’s Nickelback and Warner Bros.’ Royal Blood.

^^No, that's the HITS chart. Look here:

^No hit singles is going to hurt Lorde's SPS total. Billboard agrees with HITS:

Lorde Heading for First No. 1 Album on Billboard 200 Chart
6/19/2017 by Keith Caulfield

Singer/songwriter Lorde is on track for her first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart, according to industry forecasters. Sources suggest that her new album, Melodrama, may launch at No. 1 with perhaps 80,000 to 90,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending June 22. The set, which is Lorde’s second studio effort, was released on June 16 through Lava/Republic Records.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The top 10 of the new July 8-dated Billboard 200 chart (where Lorde will debut) is scheduled to be revealed on Billboard’s websites on Sunday, June 25.

Melodrama follows the New Zealand artist's debut effort, Pure Heroine, which debuted and peaked at No. 3 with 129,000 copies sold in its first week, according to Nielsen Music.

The week’s second biggest new entry will likely come from 2 Chainz’s Pretty Girls Like Trap Music, which might earn around 60,000 units. It’s on course to give the rapper his fourth straight top 10 effort.
