Taylor Swift's 'Reputation' Sales Grow to Over 925,000 in U.S.
11/13/2017 by Keith Caulfield

After Taylor Swift’s Reputation album 700,000 copies in its first day in the U.S., according to Nielsen Music, the set continues to sell at a swift pace. Through the close of business on Sunday, Nov. 12, the album has now sold over 925,000, according to initial sales reports to Nielsen Music.

Reputation could sell over 1 million copies in the tracking week ending Nov. 16. Further, according to industry sources, it is on track to earn Swift her largest sales week yet. Its debut week could surpass the debut frame of her last album, 2014’s 1989, which bowed with 1.29 million copies sold in its first week -- Swift’s career-best week, according to Nielsen Music.

If Reputation starts with over a million sold, it will secure Swift her fourth album with a million-selling week. She’s already the only act to have three different albums sell a million copies in a week, since Nielsen Music began tracking data in 1991. Her last three studio albums all launched with more than a million sold in their first weeks: 1989 (1.29 million), Red (2012, 1.21 million) and Speak Now (2010, 1.05 million).

Reputation is set to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart dated Dec. 2. If it arrives at No. 1, it will mark Swift’s fifth leader, following 1989, Red, Speak Now and Fearless (2008).

The fact no one ever achieved such feat in a much better sales climate pretty says of her Reputation :o 8-)

Like her or not, she is one of the biggest draws since 2006, and arguably the century.

To consistently generate numbers of that magnitude without any real gimmick or support piece is remarkable.

I take no issue with the first part but I strongly disagree with the second part.

I've never seen someone so culturally irrelevant be so successful. Oh wait, there were the Backstreet Boys and NSYNC back in the day

But she's been in the music world for 10+ years. She's lasted way longer than those groups.

That's the unfortunate part, acts like her should be as ephemeral as possible. Like Bieber, who could've guessed the annoying kid would stay for so long. I blame the internet and kids not reading books.

Only in the small little world you created where only you and Beyonce exist.

As I'm feeling charitable today you can further address your thoughts here

Well, her sales speak for her.

Nothing new seeing Hugo talking negatively about an artist who is not Beyoncé.

Quoting this before you decide to edit your foul words, another low-class comment.

Say whatever you say about Taylor, the fact that she'll manage to score another 1m opening is more than impressive.

Can anyone also define gimmick?

Gimmick would be like artists that sell albums in the ticket bundles. They sold 300k copies in a week... Great, but there's something more to it.

Let’s be honest. She doesn’t have a ticket bundle, but she’s doing other things. The different cover magazines, the Ticketmaster thing for “more chances to get tickets the more copies you buy”, the album not being available on streaming sites to increase digital sales... The UPS strategy (even if those “free downloads” are not counted in the end).

I consider Ticket Bundles gimmicks, but at the end of the day almost every #1 in US in the last months had a ticket bundle. It’s become something normal nowadays.

She doesn’t have one, but she’s doing other things for fans to buy multiple copies and to increase sales as well.

She would have done huge numbers without those things anyway, that’s for sure, but maybe less than 1 million.
