kind of a shame MGMT and Franz Ferdinand both did so poorly, but then again, both had some really mediocre albums in the intervening years even though in both artists cases, their new albums to me are comebacks artistically.

'Black Panther: The Album' Heading for Second Week at No. 1 on Billboard 200 Chart
2/21/2018 by Keith Caulfield

Black Panther: The Album is set for a second week atop the Billboard 200 chart, according to industry forecasters. Prognosticators suggest the set — which is the companion album to the blockbuster Marvel Studios film Black Panther — could earn around 130,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Feb. 22. That would follow the album’s No. 1 debut on the chart, after it tallied 154,000 units in the frame ending Feb. 15, according to Nielsen Music.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The top 10 of the new March 3, 2018-dated Billboard 200 chart (where Black Panther may score a second week at No. 1) is scheduled to be revealed on Billboard’s websites on Sunday, Feb. 25.

Notably, Black Panther: The Album’s second week on the chart will reflect the impact of the film’s huge debut in movie theaters on Feb. 16. The album’s opening week reflected the tracking week ending Feb. 15.

Black Panther earned the second-largest four-day opening in history at the U.S. and Canada box office, with $242 million, according to Box Office Mojo. The only film to score a bigger four-day opening was Star Wars: The Force Awakens, with $288 million.

Black Panther: The Album was released on Feb. 9 through Top Dawg/Aftermath/Interscope Records, and features music from and inspired by the film. The set includes tracks by Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, SZA, Khalid and James Blake. Lamar also curated and produced the album with Top Dawg Entertainment’s founder/CEO Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith.

Nipsey Hussle & Brandi Carlile Aiming for Top 10 Debuts on Billboard 200 Chart
by Keith Caulfield
2/21/2018

Rapper Nipsey Hussle and singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile are aiming for top 10 debuts on the Billboard 200 chart next week with their latest albums. According to industry forecasters, Nipsey Hussle’s debut studio effort, Victory Lap, and Carlile’s new By the Way, I Forgive You could both launch with around 40,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Feb. 22. Both albums were released on Feb. 16.

It’s expected that Black Panther: The Album will hold at No. 1 for a second week, with perhaps 130,000 units.

Nipsey Hussle made his Billboard chart debut in 2010 with the song “The Life,” which reached No. 16 on the Rap Digital Song Sales chart. He’s landed a pair of mixtapes on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart: Crenshaw (No. 61 peak in 2013) and Mailbox Money (No. 18 in 2015).

As for Carlile, her new effort is her first since 2015’s The Firewatcher’s Daughter, which debuted and peaked at a career-high No. 9 on the Billboard 200 (43,000 units earned in its first week, according to Nielsen Music). Her new album’s lead single, “The Joke,” has so far peaked at No. 8 on the Adult Alternative Songs airplay chart.

Over 80k discrepancy between sales/streaming for the #1, big.

Pretty tight at #2/#3 but if this holds with Billboard, when was the last time two OST's were the #1 and #2 albums in the US?

Expected a slightly better start for Brandi, but i‘m very glad she‘s getting another Top10 entry on the BB Top200! Fingers crossed she‘ll make the Top5 for sure :)

YOUR NEW RELEASES

ScumGang/TenThousand’s 6ix9ine will be the week’s top debut and should be a lock for a spot in the Top 5 with a first week total of 50-60k, 20-25k for the album.

The Black Panther soundtrack (TDE/Aftermath/Interscope) gets the nod for a third week on top.

On the singles side, Post Malone f/Ty Dolla $ign’s "Psycho" (Republic) scored almost 7m U.S. streams in its first day at the major streaming services. That’s more than his previous smash, "rockstar," logged in any single day.

Well if this is the only way to keep rock alive and back to the spot it deserves to be, no drama about it, at least is another window to connect with the new songs that actually at every show nobody knows or care. The last bon Jovi show I had attended was great in terms of classic anthems but stiff at new songs specifically the ones from the new albums. Remember the last hit ? It's my life 2000 long long ago
But that's the way I like it baby I don't want to live forever
and don't forget the joker

really hope billboard changes the rule before monday and excludes the bon jovi album
an album with 0 copies sold and 130k given away for free, thats gonna be the biggest joke in the history of music
they've made a mockery of the charts allowing this
they need to fix it

For free? Considering the high prices of the tickets for the concerts...

It's not free. The price of the album is added to the price of the concert ticket.
