Is there any chart entries for Toyah? I know that most of her albums were issued in Japan, so wondered if she made the charts?
Thank you so much in advance :-)

Stars of the French Easy Listening /Instrumental field in Japan.

In the sixties and seventies, instrumental music was tremendously successful in Japan. An article can be found in Billboard 1972-07-08, there was four leading conductors , Franck Pourcel, Paul Mauriat, Raymond Lefèvre and Caravelli.
Let's start with the superstar of the four, Paul Mauriat.

Paul Mauriat

Paul Mauriat has made 23 tours in Japan, starting in 1969, the last occurred in 2009. He can be called a real big Star in Japan, where he toured with a 30 pieces orchestra. In 1977, he was awarded three special Muse Awards by Phonogram Japan for over 6.000 000 albums sold in Japan. The same year, he completed a 55 dates tour, including four sold out performances at Nippon Budokan and 13 performances at Osaka festival Hall. He played for an estimated audience of 160. 000. He equaled his own record in 1979. Than his record sale declined in the 80's and 90's. In 1995, Billboard credited him for 15 millions albums sold in Japan, while Phonogram advanced a 20 millions figure.

The single spent an impressive 110 weeks in the Oricon charts over a 6 years period. With 210 weeks out of the charts, (even more, since in1976 the single was still in the catalog), "la Reine de Saba" was said to reach the 700 marks.
He toured 15 times in Japan, the high of his success was 1977 and 78, with 40 dates each and performances at Nippon Budokan.
