A big thank you from me as well DrTravel. One of the joys of having these charts is that you can compare them with Billboard and Cash Box. When I was looking through the book I have on the Record World Charts (only top 10's unfortunately) I was struck by the strange Top 10 run of You're The One That I Want by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. Listed below is a week-by-week chart run on all 3 charts. When it was No. 1 on Record World it was No. 44 on Billboard!!

Date BB CB RW
01/04/1978 65 65 49
08/04/1978 30 52 36
15/04/1978 19 30 30
22/04/1978 11 19 24
29/04/1978 9 12 19
06/05/1978 7 6 13
13/05/1978 6 5 6
20/05/1978 4 4 4
27/05/1978 3 3 3
03/06/1978 2 3 2
10/06/1978 1 3 2
17/06/1978 2 3 2
24/06/1978 4 4 5
01/07/1978 11 4 5
08/07/1978 14 11 4
15/07/1978 33 15 4
22/07/1978 31 20 2
29/07/1978 44 19 1
05/08/1978 42 26 5
12/08/1978 42 36 5
19/08/1978 60 45 9
26/08/1978 60 57 24
02/09/1978 83 84 36
09/09/1978 83 96 45
16/09/1978 -- 100 79

Once 1979 is complete I may look to see if there an other instances of a No. 1 record being so low on the other charts

1980 charts are here:

http://www120.zippyshare.com/v/9vbN95Pf/file.html

Note that Record World listed the studio version of "Coming Up" (billed as "Paul McCartney") for 4/26 and 5/10 thru 6/28 and the live version was listed (billed as "Paul McCartney & Wings") for 5/3 and 7/5 thru 9/6.

1982 charts are here:

http://www120.zippyshare.com/v/A13QwFc2/file.html

Note that this was the last year of Record World - so I've posted all 1970-1984 charts plus the chart runs for 1964-1970 so you should have all of the Record World chart positions. I'll post one more spreadsheet showing all the chart runs for 1964-1984 and then it's break time until I decide what my next project will be.

Here are the complete chart runs for Record World:

http://www40.zippyshare.com/v/fMf8nygV/file.html

Note this spreadsheet contains a lot of information besides chart positions about each song - kind of like a Record Research book information on steroids.
Make sure to unhide columns to see everything

OK history fans - the Record World charts initially started out as the Music Guild charts in 1954. Later they changed the name to Music Vendor and then on 4/18/64 to Record World. Below are the 1964 charts: Music Vendor up to 4/11/64 and then Record World 4/18/64 onwards. I can not find the 4/11/64 MV chart (not even Record Research has it) so that chart is estimated (estimated positions are in yellow) based on previous and later charts plus some good old fashioned guess work. Note that Record Research did not have the 2/1/64 chart when they did their research - that have it now!

Didn't know if I should have started a new thread but it's somewhat the same topic. Here are the Music Guild charts from 1954:

All of the issues of Record World that were obtained by David have now been uploaded to http://www.americanradiohistory.com/Record_World.htm. They cover the years 1965 to 1981. They make great reading.

Here's hoping that more issues can be found and uploaded in the future.

Here are the Music Guild and Music Vendor (started in December) charts from 1955. Note that Music Vendor changed their name to Record World in 1964.

Here are the Music Vendor charts from 1956:

Working on 1957 - these things take awhile to compile due to alternate versions and locating correct song titles and accurate label numbers.

For those in the US - Happy Veteran's Day

Switching gears to work on Cash Box C&W and R&B charts for 1960-1964. Will return to Music Vendor 1958 after the new year.

Just discovered today on the website "Top 40 Music on Compact Disc", Paul Haney at Record Research (Joel Whitburn's chart book company) said 10 days ago on March 3 that they are working on Volume 1 of the week-by-week Record World charts 1964-1972, to be announced very soon.

Paul said 2 days later "so a Volume 2 would cover 1973-1982..."

Most excellent !!

Does anyone have these files? Mall of DrTracels links are dead. Except for the last one he posted.

Appreciate any help, just found this thread.

It's a shame we have all this great historical stuff and it's so easily lost and dependent on someone saving it. It very well if a user passes away be lost again for decades.

Edit: lol. Okay that sounded more morbid on a retread then I intended, but we are all familiar with how data gets lost over time on the inernet due to sites going down or people going away.
