It's all good. In the end two users came through and helped me. I should have thanked them in he thread, but I wavered on doing so as appropriate without asking them first. But I should have st least made a general thanks so that people knew I had been helped,DrTravel wrote:Here are the 1959 Music Vendor charts - unfortunately the first one from 1959 is M.I.A. No source I know of has this (including Record Research).
On to 1960 - might add the "Beat Of The Week - Headed For The Top 100" chart which started on March 21, 1960 and was 25 positions. Their version of Billboard's "Bubbling Under".
A bit perturbed that no one responded to Chartaholic's request. Fortunately some kind soul assisted off-line. I bust my ass to find this stuff, prepare it, and freely share - I will definitely continue the first two...the third???
PS Manfred started this thread...how much did he contribute?
I've been bugging Joel to do this for years - ever since he published his first Record World book. Many don't know that he was missing at least four issues of Music Vendor/Record when he published his three Record World books - first week of 1959 and three issues from 1964 - February 1, April 11 (last Music Vendor) and April 18 (first Record World). Since the beginning of they year the February 1 issue was available on ebay and purchased. The April 11 issue was posted on the American Radio history website. Still missing the other two but he did have a copy of just the Top 100 chart from April 18. He does plan on a Volume 2 to cover 1973-1982 but nothing for the Music Vendor charts 1954-1963 - those are extremely rare.Niceguy wrote:Joel Whitburn just announced publication of his Record World Singles Charts 1964-1972 book.
(1973-1982 will be published later)

The charts of Volume 1 begin with January 4, 1964, when the magazine was known as Music Vendor. (Ten weeks later, the magazine became Record World.) Includes the national Top 100 Pop chart for each week through 1972. Each chart is printed in black and white.
