No No. 1/top 10 exclusives this week in Album Sales, but I removed the Garth Brooks/Trisha Yearwood listing from 12/3/16, as that climbed to the top 10 on the multi-metric chart this week.

I'm baffled reading all the stuff from last pages. Why compare 80s to the 10s? it's a popularity chart. Just deal with it. When there are over 100 million streams of an album yet people want that 30,000 selling CD to top the chart is absurd in this day and age. I would like to see Metallica's new set to go Diamond as basically some people here underestimate the "teens". I'm not defending Billboard but it's just a matter of common sense. Germany's charts based on Profits is probably a great thing but that would create conflicts in a market where there are discounts ever week and many factors aside but that's a great chart but saying that an album that is being streamed by millions should not be reflected in the charts is absurd. I have accepted that since last year. Do people here really think people from the 70s and 80s not be smart enough to pay 9$ a month and get whatever music they wanted? what makes them think they would have acted differently. Some people should be thanking streaming since it's at least getting money from people who would never pay a cent anyways, whether through their phone bills or a discounted subscription (school student discounts ) etc.

La La Land has hit the top 10 on the multi-metric chart, thus I removed it from the 1/21 entry. But, it's the No. 1-selling album for the 1/28 charts, thus that feat is listed for 1/28.

The xx lands this week's top-selling album, marking, I believe, the 23rd title to be the No. 1-selling album in the country, and not rank No. 1 on the multi-metric chart.

Things are now up to date on the front page.

Number of occurrences in which the top seller was not the most popular album
(Through Issue #15 of the calendar year):

2015: 2
2016: 2
2017: 7

Ladies and gentlemen, this is more or less a norm in 2017. At this point, don't be surprised if the top seller is rounding the 40-50k mark on an average week. I'd expect the slower weeks this year to reel in 20-30k, which is really a sad sign for the industry. The power of streaming has and will continue to make up a good portion of Album Equivalent Units for anticipated titles.

Now up to date.

Mastodon's Emperor Of Sand holds the distinction of being the lowest ranking top-seller on the Billboard 200. As the top selling album, it ranks at #7 in the overall popularity contest. Almost all of it's total units were from pure album sales (41,000 of 43,000 units). Of course, the remainder comes from TEA (Track Equivalent Albums) and SEA (Stream Equivalent Albums).

On the sales front, at least we haven't yet seen a new low for the top-selling album.

This week, Bethel Music lands its fourth top 10-selling album, with a total of 19,000- not bad for No. 9 in this climate.

And, next week, it looks like we'll have a new No. 1-selling album that isn't No. 1 on the multi-metric chart.

Not ribbed, just not top 10 or No. 1 on the multi-metric chart.

I'll soon post a running list of acts with the most No. 1 and top 10 albums, taking into account rankings on Album Sales. Unless someone beats me to it. :)
