In the process of compiling the Country & Western and the Rhythm & Blues charts from Cash Box magazine. Have created spreadsheets for both charts up to the end of 1954. This information will eventually be uploaded to the "Cash Box Archives" http://18.104.22.168/archives.htm
. Randy Price and I worked on getting the Pop single charts that are currently up. Longer term we will work on the album charts.
The first Country & Western chart appeared on 8/18/47 and was titled "Top 10 Hillbilly, Folk & Western Juke Box Tunes". This chart was later superseded by the "Top 10 Folk & Western Best Sellers" on 5/29/54.
The first national Rhythm & Blues chart appeared on 3/7/53 and was titled "The Nation's Rhythm & Blues Top Ten". Prior to that date Cash Box published numerous RnB regional charts. The first was "Hot In Harlem, N.Y." on 6/24/46, followed by "Hot On Chicago's South Side" on 10/13/47, "Hot In New Orleans" on 1/10/48 and "Hot On Central Ave. In Los Angeles" on 1/29/48.
If there is an interest I can share these charts with the group.
