I'm surprised to see the gap between "Shape Of You" and "Symphony" got a little bit bigger than on the Tuesday Update.

Ed Sheeran is currently on a UK concert tour (and in fact is performing tonight in Newcastle, my home town - see my location! At this moment he's singing to several thousand people from the north east of England) so is attracting more streams as a result as his fans stream his songs in the day or two before heading off to the concert plus don't forget that streaming sales are one day behind download sales so aren't being reflected in "real time" as there is a 24 hour time lag... he's also playing in Newcastle tomorrow night so I expect to see the gap widen even more. I would love to see Clean Bandit finally get to the top this weekend though.

^ good to know, thank you. Didn't know that he's already in the UK for his tour. I also hope "Symphony" will take the top spot one day, even if i love both (and i also wanted to see "Galway Girl" at #1 one day, but i guess that won't happen now)

If it's any consolation, 'Symphony' did make No 1 on the paid-for actual sales chart for two weeks - albeit with the unenviable distinction of it being on sales of less than 30,000 true copies on both frames. As with any title that's previously been denied a No 1 hit officially on the combined tabulation but would've attained the accolade had the main chart remained sales-based without the artifice of streaming, one hopes that it will accrue enough combined units in a future week to come out on top. Since June 2014, 19 singles have suffered that fate to date (including 2 of Ed Sheeran's own current crop).

But as Robbie correctly observes, Sheeran is arguably doing far more than Clean Bandit at the minute to keep interest in his tracks (and of course his album) pepped-up, probably sufficient to claim both chart crowns given the obgoing absence of any strong new competition. He also performed well on 'Later With Jools Holland' on Tuesday night which to a modest extent will have boosted his tallies further - possibly more on sales than streaming given the average audience for 'Later' has a typical tendency towards the over-30s, who still major more on buying than renting their music.

Sigh........ :(

Is there a Thursday update please with figures? I feel certain that CB has got it this week :D Either way, even if Shape of You does return to No 1 surely that will be the final time with all the new releases coming out.

In the official chart for Ireland just published, these three acts now have thirty-six of the top 100 between them - and "only" six of those are Drake, the others from him already gone. But all sixteen of Ed Sheeran's are still there, and Kendrick Lamar has ten of the top forty, four others in the top sixty. I suppose we can expect similar domination of the UK chart in a few hours time - although presumably most of the new tracks are completely unsuitable to be played on the radio !

Top 100 mids are up - and so are last weeks! :o (though it credits all the new entries as re-entries)

A deluge of Record Store Day releases in the album chart and a few on the singles chart (Bowie heading both).

Madonna Dance Mix is on the wrong chart - it's a four-track single (featuring Into The Groove).

Didn't this happen last year (or the year before) when the 12" release of 'Ghostbusters' was placed on the Albums rather than Singles chart? In the case of Madonna it would come down to the running time of the single. If it's over 25 minutes in length and has a dealer price of £3.76 or more than it would be classed as a mid price album and would therefore qualify for the main Albums chart.

Edit: looking at the original 1985 Argentinian issue of the record, and assuming it is the same version it's under 25 minutes (I count a running time of 23:08).

^Yes, 2014 actually. Ghostbusters was pure error. But there's always one or two that are credited as albums.

Madonna record is 23 minutes.
