Camila Cabello & Sam Smith Battle For U.K. Singles Chart Supremacy
http://www.billboard.com/articles/colum ... gles-chart
10/4/2017 by Lars Brandle

Wolf Alice is fighting tooth and claw for the U.K. albums chart title while Camila Cabello is closing in on her first singles crown.

Hailing from North London, Wolf Alice snags a narrow lead at the halfway point of the chart cycle with their second set Visions Of A Life (Dirty Hit), which could become their first chart-leader this Friday (their 2015 debut, My Love Is Cool, peaked at No. 2).

But there’s a strong contender in Shania Twain, whose comeback album Now (EMI) is just over 1,000 combined sales behind, according to the Official Charts Company, and could still snatch the lead. Now is the Canadian singer’s first record in 15 years, since 2002's Up, which peaked at No. 4.

Three more new LPs fill up the top five on the Official Albums Chart Update as David Gilmour's Live At Pompeii (Columbia) starts at No. 3, Michael Jackson’s posthumous Scream (Sony Music CG) release is at No. 4 and Demi Lovato's sixth album Tell Me You Love Me (Hollywood) drops in at No. 5, for what could be her personal best.

In a big week for new releases, Miley Cyrus' sixth album Younger Now (RCA) debuts at No. 8, homegrown rockers’ Feeder starts at No. 9 with their Best Of (BMG) compilation, veteran singer-songwriter Chris Rea's Road Songs For Lovers (BMG) begins at No. 10 while, just outside the top 10 are fresh sets from ABBA’s Benny Andersson, Manchester duo Hurts and the late, great David Bowie.

On the midweek singles chart, former Fifth Harmony singer Camila Cabello (Epic/Syco) is rising fast with “Havana” featuring Young Thug. The Cuban-born pop singer’s single rises 4-2 in its eighth week on the survey and sits just 1,500 combined sales behind Sam Smith's “Too Good at Goodbyes” (EMI). Smith’s own comeback song has now logged three weeks at the summit, a career best.

The rest of the top five is static with Post Malone and 21 Savage's international hit “Rockstar” (Republic) at No. 3, Pink's “What About Us” (RCA) at No. 4, and CNCO & Little Mix hold at their peak spot with the remix of "Reggaeton Lento” (Syco Music) at No. 5.

Also noteworthy is Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow” (KSR), the current Hot 100 leader which leaps 37-26 on the Official U.K. Singles Chart Update.

Wednesday Update

Sam Smith is in danger of being knocked off the top spot in the singles chart by Post Malone and 21 Savage, while Shania Twain has opened up a lead over Wolf Alice in the albums race.

Smith’s Too Good At Goodbyes is currently on 25,702 sales, with Malone’s Rockstar (feat. 21 Savage) on 27,584. Camila Cabello and Young Thug are at No.3 with Havana (23,556 sales), Dua Lipa’s New Rules (21,010 sales) is at No.4 and CNCO & Little Mix’s Reggaeton Lento (Remix) (18,518 sales) completes the Top 5.

Shania Twain’s Now (16,824 sales) sits in top spot in the albums chart, with Wolf Alice at No.2 with Visions Of A Life (15,440 sales). David Gilmour’s Live At Pompeii (11,262 sales) is at No.3, Demi Lovato’s Tell Me You Love Me (9,277 sales) is at No.4 and Foo Fighters’ Concrete And Gold (8,956 sales) is in fifth spot.
Meanwhile, Ed Sheeran’s ÷ is in danger of dropping out of the Top 5 altogether, currently sitting at No.9 on 7,576 sales.

I would imagine they're very front loaded and he's not likely to add much to his total from now to Thursday.

Did anyone see him on the Graham Norton show the other day? Not only was he full of his usual BS but he looked quite ill and was sweating profusely. He really looked like he had taken something he shouldn't have taken. He's 45 but still behaves like a teenager and not in a good way.

It seems to be album of the week on Spotify, or at the very least it's in a prominent [position on Spotify. I'll give it a listen after the Wales v ROI match has finished. From the little I've just heard it seems to be a decent album.

Liam's album is called As You Were.

I'm not sure where AJ Tracey's album gets the title Quarterback (Secure the Bag) from as it's simply called Secure The Bag! on iTunes.

PP Arnold's 60's album popping up at 64 is a surprise. http://www.officialcharts.com/charts/al ... rt-update/

Liam would presumably have gotten more than three tracks into the singles chart under the old rules. The sales chart will be interesting as more new entries make that album chart than the official one.

Pink's Beautiful Trauma sets course to become her second Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart
http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-new ... rt__20759/
Plus new albums from Robert Plant, Beck and St Vincent are on course to make strong debuts.
By Rob Copsey

P!nk is on course to claim her second Number 1 album in the UK as her new album Beautiful Trauma leads the way on this week's Official Albums Chart Update.

The singer-songwriter's seventh studio album is set for a strong opening sales week with the collection, currently just shy of 50,000 combined sales at the halfway stage of the chart week.

If Beautiful Trauma holds on to its lead, it'll be P!nk's second Number 1 album in the UK, following 2008's Funhouse. All but one of the singer's albums have peaked inside the Top 10 - check out her complete history on the Official Chart here.

Beautiful Trauma is the first P!nk album in five years, since 2012's Number 2-peaking The Truth About Love. In 2014 she teamed up with country music star Dallas Green to form duo You+Me and scored a Top 10 album with their album rose ave.

Meanwhile, Robert Plant starts at Number 2 with his 11th solo album Carry Fire. The former Led Zeppelin star has never scored a solo Number 1 album in the UK, but has come close on several occasions, most recently with 2014's Number 2-peaking Lullaby And... The Ceaseless Roar.

Last week's Number 1 album, Liam Gallagher's As You Were, slips to 3 mid-week, US musician Beck is currently at 4 with his latest effort Colors, and singer-songwriter St Vincent is on track for her highest charting album yet in the UK with her fifth record MASSEDUCATION (5).

Two more albums could be entering this week's Official Albums Chart Top 10: Courtney Barnett & Kurt Vile's collaborative album Lotta Sea Lice is at 7, and Wretch 32 could be looking at his third Top 10 collection this week - FR32 is at 9.

Four albums are currently perched just outside the Top 10: Glasgow rockers King King could land their first UK Top 40 album with Exile & Grace (11), British band Squeeze start at 12 with The Knowledge, singer/rapper/producer King Krule is at 13 with The Ooz, and Scouting For Girls' best of Ten Add Ten is currently at 14.

Further down, Stormzy's debut Gang Signs & Prayer is climbing back up the chart following its vinyl release, so far up 16 places to 23, and Madonna could see two of her classic albums back in the Top 40 this week: her 1984 album Like A Prayer (26) and 1998's Ray Of Light (32) have been given special edition release on vinyl.

Finally, three brand new albums are on track to debut inside this week's Top 40: Nerina Pallot's Stay Lucky (29), Wu-Tang Clan's The Saga Continues (30) and Wolf Buffalo's Darkest Darks Lightest Lights (35).

I listened to St. Vincent's album last night. At first I wasn't sure what to expect but after listening to it I have to say it's a good album so it's good to see it inside the top 5 today.

Great success for P!nk!

For what it's worth, it's already the fastest-selling UK #1 by a female soloist this year.

I have a question: I know that according to ACR a song which is at least 10 weeks old and has had declining sales for at least 3 weeks get the ratio of streams to sales decreased from 150:1 to 300:1... which is what happened to P!nk "What about us" last week. :( But what happens when that same song peaks up sales again? Is the streams ratio brought back to 150:1? I think it would be very unfair not to, even though, by doing it, the chart run looks kind of of weird... Anyone knows the answer? Thanks in advance
