Changes in rankings reflect previous edition of the all-time charts (May 10, 2008).
This ranking is highly dubious IMO. Most chart historians (i.e. Joel Whitburn) do not count full points for all the "featured" artist billings on singles that have littered charts in the past 10 years.

What type of point system are you using?
Most chart watchers here find Whitburn's rankings highly dubious. His lists are based on chart peaks (bonus points for the highest numbers) and number of weeks.
My method is not so arbitrary and much more scientific. It takes all chart entries into consideration, and aggregates the chart info based on a formula.
For details, see this link

Regarding the "featured" artist billings: I think all credited artists on a title should get equal chart points. Dividing the points creates all kinds of problems: should the lead artist get full points or both half of the points? What about other credits like "with", "and" or "or"?

Yes, it hurts that an artist like Ludacris (appropiate name in this respect) can get in the all-time top 10 in such a short chart career. But the guy is very prolific, like Lil Wayne and T.I.
If Michael Jackson had been so prolific (e.g. if he had made an album every 2 years), he surely would have been number one.

Maybe a better name for the all-time ranking is "Most prolific popular chart artists".

Well, I actually do agree with you on the fact that Whitburn is somewhat dubious in that he plays favorites in a sense. For example, he's the one who first started getting it out in the media that "Don't Be Cruel"/"Hound Dog" by Elvis Presley should somehow be counted as two separate hits, both amassing 11 weeks at #1, when in reality, they were flipsides to the same 45 rpm single. So Elvis really had 17 #1's, not 18!

Also - in re-reading my post, Hanboo, I hope I didn't come across as a bitch. I TRULY appreciate all the work you do in researching chart histories and runs!!! I was just genuinely curious about your point system. :) You are the guru of charts!

Now ummm, could I pretty please have chart runs for Vanessa Williams? =)
I love lipstick!

Can you do chart runs (if any exist) for:

Cake
Roger Voudouris
The Chameleons ? The Chamelons UK
The Breeders
?

Thanks

Have you ever given thought to taking the content-only posts from this thread and pasting them into a new thread and removing the old thread thereby saving space and generally making things more organized and alphabetical? (at least for awhile until new requests and posts messy things up again)
