They are marketed as a Schlager act, and Schlager TV Shows became very mainstream and respected in Germany in recent years. They shows became more modern and international too. They have Latin and other international AC acts performing there too. Also The Kelly Family is signed to a German label which gives them a huge push.

The Kelly Family's comeback is probably among the top 3 of the biggest comebacks of the last 10 years - only below Udo Lindenberg and Sarah Connor. They have recognized the people's demand for their return to the music business and used this opportunity cleverly.

Wham!'s and Carey's Christmas related classics will probably reach a new peak on the official German chart before this year is over... :o

Gzuz' 'Wolke 7' is the No. 3 album on the End of Year Chart. Has the album even reached platinum so far? I assume the album ended so high (ahead of albums like 'Divide', 'Na und?' or 'Kopf aus - Herz an') because of the high price of the deluxe edition, didn't it?

Maybe the post in the Gaga thread I created helps here. The revenue probably plays a role, too, but it's interesting to see how many high-placed albums don't have a cert or only 1 x Gold.

Germany Albums YEC
42 A Star Is Born (peak 5 / 9 weeks)

No entry on the single charts.

Albums in front of her with similar or less weeks and their certifications:

2 Bonez MC / 9 weeks / 1x Gold (100k)
6 Grönemeyer / 4 weeks / none
8 Bushido / 9 weeks / none
17 Pur / 12 weeks / none
22 Kollegah / 8 weeks / none
31 Mark Forster / 3 weeks / none
40 LINA / 4 weeks / none

The #10 album Eloy also has 1 x Gold only with 27 weeks.

Hard to tell Gaga’s actual sales. Even The Greatest Showman isn’t certified at all yet (#24).

Thanks, KokoCollino! In that case, revenue really seems to be the answer to the problem. Gzuz must have sold a lot of deluxe editions of his album. Same for Lina, who , according to Amazon, had a box set that costs more than 40€. This way, she could land ahead of Gaga and Cooper, although I have her sales at ~ 40k and Gaga/Cooper's sales at ~ 150k. This time around, the revenue system 'disfavored' Gaga/Cooper because their album has been placed higher on the sales-based chart than on the official gross-based chart for most of its charting weeks so far.
There are even more extreme cases than Gaga/Cooper though: Acts like Andreas Gabalier or Santiano regularly have their catalogue albums' certifications updated, despite their albums only charting in the lower parts of the charts (or maybe not even that), because they are heavily discounted and so sell a lot of copies for a low price. 'Bis ans Ende der Welt' probably sold 60k+ copies in 2018 - and its last charting week was in the last week of 2017.

So, what are the sales like in Germany during this Christmas period? In the Uk they are quite good, so I wonder if German market is even better at this time? Thanks!

Mmmm... In reference to the countries' population, I'd say that the German sales are stronger than the US' but not as strong as the UK's during Christmas season. I have Herbert Grönemeyer's 'Tumult' at ~ 180k and Mark Forster's 'LIEBE' at ~ 90K by now. If both albums had the same chart run as on the German sales-based chart in the UK, they would have sold ~ 430k and ~ 200k copies each.
