Some surprises on albums - Jeff Wayne's The War of The Worlds vinyl at 18, Steve Hackett live album, Phil Campbell rock album all higher than i expected. Nice to see Propaganda at 100 - yet another reissue of classic pop album, this time just for the packaging.

#71 :o (a world music act) i think has an incorrect label listing?? It's nothing to do with the ongoing chillout compilation series Late Night Tales.

I copied and pasted from BuzzJack. I think the censoring may have been deliberately done by the poster there. The Haven post is itself a copy and paste job of the BuzzJack post.

Justin Timberlake's 'Man of the Woods' Starts Strong on the Midweek U.K. Chart
https://www.billboard.com/articles/colu ... week-chart
2/6/2018 by Lars Brandle

Man of the moment Justin Timberlake is making his move on the U.K. albums chart.

Following his Super Bowl halftime show, JT’s Man Of The Woods (RCA) is at No. 2 on the midweek chart and is set to enter this week’s survey as the highest new entry. Just one object blocks JT’s path to the chart crown. And it’s a seemingly immovable one in The Greatest Showman (Atlantic) soundtrack, which is on track for a fifth week at No. 1 with a lead of 5,000 combined sales, according to the Official Charts Company.

Veteran Scottish alternative rock outfit Simple Minds starts at No. 3 on the Official Albums Chart Update with Walk Between Worlds (BMG), their 18th studio album. If Walk stays on track, it’ll become the band’s highest charting album in 23 years, since Good News From The Next World peaked at No. 2 in 1995. The Jim Kerr-fronted band hit the summit on five occasions in the ‘80s and ‘90s. Meanwhile, Bedford rock act Don Broco start at No. 4 on the midweek survey with Technology (Sharptone), their third set.

Also impacting the chart at the halfway stage is heavy metal act Saxon, who could snag a ninth top 40 album with Thunderbolt (Militia Guard Music). It’s new at No. 16, while a re-release of Roxy Music’s debut self-titled Virgin album release from 1972 is at No. 22, and a deluxe reissue of Nirvana’s classic album Nevermind (Geffen) reenters the chart at No. 24.

On the midweek singles chart, Drake is surging to another chart title with “God’s Plan” (Cash Money/Republic Records), which has a 5,000 combined sales advantage over Rudimental‘s “These Days” (Asylum) featuring Jess Glynne and Macklemore, rising 11-2.

The week’s highest new entry could come from The Weeknd and Kendrick Lamar’s “Pray For Me” (Interscope/Republic/XO), lifted from the album inspired by the Marvel superhero film Black Panther. It pounces in at No. 16.

Curiously Kendrick Lamar has managed to get more than 3 songs included so far. Even though he's co-credited and not featured on 3 of them. They must be going by the "ensemble" logic with the Black Panther songs?

Toto's album is a best of - OCC not making this clear even though they have room for it.

How long is Drake likely to last at #1 in the UK charts? It's already low top 10 on iTunes so i'd like to think something that resembles a "song" goes to #1 soon. :P

Ha-ha; that's what lots of us were saying in Spring/Summer 2016! Unfortunately, as we all know too well, Drake in particular has form for sticking at No 1 long-term primarily thanks to saturation (and quite often I'm sure incidental) streaming, with a completely unexceptional, monotonous dirge, while other better offerings get stuck behind it, even if they do manage to scale the summit over on the 'traditional' sales-only chart.

It's interesting to note that while the new rules introduced last July have arguably restricted the would-be tenures of some combined chart-toppers compared to what they would've been under the unrestricted regime, so that we now see roughly the same amount of sales-only No 1s as we do combined, the tracks that make up the former category are often quite distinct from the latter. So far in 2018, we have had three combined No 1s and four sales-only - but 'God's Plan' is not one of those four, with downloaders instead favouring the arguably-more-substantive 'Strangers' by Sigrid and 'These Days' by Rudimental, leaving Drake placed no higher on that ranking than No 2 in its opening frame, and as low as 5 in its second and third.

Despite the 25%+ year-on-year decline in overall paid-for sales we're seeing in the latter half of the 2010s, I still think the sales chart is the more interesting, varied and truthful tabulation available. For those who prefer to see just a little more diversity in their musical styles in the current charts (albeit not much!), continuity between future, present and past weekly charts, and to sidestep all the nonsense that integrating streaming has wreaked on the combined listing, it's become more and more tempting to just refer to the sales-only charts as the chart of record from July 2014 to the end of this decade, despite it no longer having the primary "official" status it enjoyed for 62 years leading up to that watershed.

Yes, The Wombats really did lose sales from yesterday (and Monday), with sales of the album falling back by 1.4k in the last 24 hours. There's a variety of reasons why this can happen, from ineligible sales to sales being incorrectly added to an album title. It's not the first time it has happened in the midweeks though it isn't a common occurrence.

Drake Leads Midweek U.K. Chart With 'God's Plan'
https://www.billboard.com/articles/colu ... -gods-plan
2/20/2018 by Lars Brandle

Drake is on track for a seventh stint atop the U.K. singles chart with “God’s Plan” (Cash Money/Republic Records), while a slew of Brit Award-nominated artists enjoy sales bursts in the run-up to the annual industry gala.

Following the release of its official video, “God’s Plan” holds at No. 1 on the Official Chart Update with a lead of 2,000 combined units over Rudimental’s second-placed track “These Days” (Asylum), featuring Jess Glynne, Macklemore and Dan Caplen, according to the Official Charts Company.

Meanwhile, Portugal. The Man's “Feel It Still” (Atlantic) improves 6-3 in its 27th week on the survey, Dua Lipa’s “IDGAF” (Warner Bros) is up 6-4 and “This Is Me” (Atlantic) by Keala Settle and the Greatest Showman Ensemble, tumbles 3-5. Also making a move on the midweek chart is Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “All The Stars” (Interscope) from Black Panther: The Album, up 11-8, as Camila Cabello's “Never Be The Same” (Epic/Syco) leaps 14-9 after she performed the song on Dancing On Ice.

On the midweek albums survey, there’s evidence music fans are swotting for next week’s Brit Awards. Dua Lipa, who is nominated for five trophies, including album of the year, sees her self-titled Warner Bros. debut rise 11-4 while three-time nominee Ed Sheeran is up 5-2 with Divide (Asylum) and another artist with a hattrick of nods, Rag'n'Bone Man, sees his debut Human (Best Laid Plans/Columbia) improve 12-9. Brit Award nominated artists Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar, Liam Gallagher, Stormzy and Foo Fighters all see album sales spikes. The 2018 Brit Awards will be held Wednesday (Feb. 21) at London’s O2 Arena.

Leading the way on the midweek U.K. albums chart is The Greatest Showman (Atlantic) soundtrack, which is aiming for a seventh frame at No. 1. Two new sets are poised to enter the top 10, British rock band Temperance Movement’s A Deeper Cut (Earache) at No. 3 and veteran Scottish alternative rock act Belle & Sebastian’s trilogy-completing How To Solve Our Human Problems - PT 1-3 (Matador) at No. 6.
