Hmm. Surely there has to be a mistake, as her "Brave Enough" was at #5 last week in its 79th week and now it's completely out?

Or is there are rule for old(er) albums?

Brandi Carlile Notches Second No. 1 on Top Rock Albums Chart
https://www.billboard.com/articles/colu ... number-one
3/1/2018 by Kevin Rutherford

"By the Way, I Forgive You," Carlile's sixth studio album, also arrives as her fourth No. 1 on Americana/Folk Albums.

Brandi Carlile notches her second No. 1 on Billboard's Top Rock Albums chart (dated March 3), as By the Way, I Forgive You, her sixth studio set, starts with 43,000 equivalent album units, according to Nielsen Music.

Of that sum, 41,000 are via traditional album sales, marking Carlile's second-best sales frame, narrowly trailing only The Firewatcher's Daughter (42,000). That set became her first No. 1 on Top Rock Albums (March 21, 2015).

The new LP also debuts atop Americana/Folk Albums, where it's Carlile's fourth No. 1, following Daughter, Bear Creek (June 23, 2012; 27,000 sold) and 2010's XOBC EP (Feb. 27, 2010; 10,000 sold).

On the all-genre Billboard 200, By the Way marks Carlile's best rank and first top five title, as it debuts at No. 5. It surpasses the No. 9 bow and peak of Daughter.

Meanwhile, By the Way's lead single "The Joke" enters Hot Rock Songs (No. 43), granting Carlile her first appearance on the chart since "That Wasn't Me," which peaked at No. 41 on the Sept. 22, 2012-dated survey. "Joke" also returns to its No. 8 peak on the Adult Alternative Songs airplay chart, where it's her fifth top 10, dating back to her first, "The Story (I Was Made for You)" (No. 3, 2007).

It went recurrent! 18 months after release (78 weeks).
All the genre charts have recurrent rules, too.

AJR Crosses Over, Lands First Alternative Songs No. 1 With 'Sober Up'
https://www.billboard.com/articles/colu ... number-one
3/1/2018 by Kevin Rutherford

The song, featuring Weezer's Rivers Cuomo, become the band's first No. 1 at the genre after previously charting at Top 40 radio.

After tallying a pair of No. 27-peaking singles on Billboard's Pop Songs airplay chart since 2014, AJR has gone alternative.

The brother trio rules Alternative Songs (dated March 3) in its first visit to the airplay survey, as "Sober Up," featuring Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo, rises 3-1.

AJR's "I'm Ready" reached No. 27 on Pop Songs in August 2014. "Weak" reached the same rank in June 2017.

"There was no hesitation at all to put 'Sober Up' immediately into rotation, especially since WSUN [97X] has a 'pop-ternative'-leaning playlist," WSUN Tampa music director Jenna Kesneck, whose station spun "Sober" more than any other alternative station in the Feb. 19-25 tracking week (98 times), tells Billboard. "Within the first week of airplay, 'Sober Up' immediately skyrocketed into the top 15 Shazams in Tampa, and WSUN was the only station in the market playing the record. That was a moment I knew AJR wasn’t going anywhere. They’re just warming up."

As Kesneck also programs pop radio, she was already familiar with the trio and remembers "wishing the label would flip the script and bring them over to alternative."

Meanwhile, the band is the second act in as many weeks to lead Alternative Songs in its first appearance, following Alice Merton with "No Roots" (now at No. 2). In 2017, three acts ruled the tally with their first charted songs: The Revivalists, Rag'n'Bone Man and Judah & the Lion.

AJR also becomes the latest band consisting solely of family members to top Alternative Songs. Most recently, Kings of Leon (three brothers and a cousin) did so with "Waste a Moment" (beginning Dec. 3, 2016), following KONGOS ("Come with Me Now," 2014; four brothers).

"Sober" rises to No. 1 in its 21st week on Alternative Songs, capping the longest trip to the top in nearly a year, since The Revivalists' "Wish I Knew You" took 26 weeks, leading at last on May 20, 2017.

Additionally, "Sober" is AJR's first No. 1 song on any Billboard chart.

Cuomo, meanwhile, earns his first solo Alternative Songs No. 1 and first overall in nearly a decade, following three in 2005-08 as frontman of Weezer; the band has banked 14 top 10s since 1994, with its latest, "Happy Hour," at No. 12 after reaching No. 9.

The combination of alternative radio airplay and increasing attention in the triple A format (it's bubbling under the Adult Alternative Songs chart) pushes "Sober" to a new No. 6 high on the all-rock-format Rock Airplay chart, up 6 percent to a new weekly high of 8.5 million audience impressions, according to Nielsen Music. It also scores a new peak on Alternative Digital Song Sales, rising 18-17 with 3,000 sold, the song's first week crossing the 3,000-download threshold.

En Vogue Returns With First Top 10 Airplay Chart Hit in Over 20 Years
https://www.billboard.com/articles/colu ... ars-rocket
3/1/2018 by Trevor Anderson

"Rocket" climbs 13-10 on the Adult R&B Songs airplay chart.

En Vogue charts its first top 10 hit on a Billboard airplay chart in more than 20 years, as "Rocket" shoots 13-10 on the Adult R&B Songs airplay chart dated March 3. The track was up 13 percent in plays at the format in the week ending Feb. 25, according to Nielsen Music.

The song is from the girl group's upcoming new studio album, Electric Café, which is due out on April 6 via En Vogue Records/eOne. It's the act's first studio set in 14 years.

"Rocket" is the quartet-turned-trio's first top 10 hit on the Adult R&B Songs chart since "Don't Let Go (Love)" spent six weeks in the top 10 in February and March of 1997 (peaking at No. 7). It's the act's first top 10 on any Billboard airplay chart since June and July of 1997, when "Whatever" hit the top 10 on Rhythmic Songs, R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay and Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop.

En Vogue has charted 10 hits on the Adult R&B Songs chart since the tally launched in 1993. Overall, the act has logged 14 entries on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 chart, including a trio of No. 2 hits: "Hold On," "My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It)" and "Don't Let Go (Love)." On the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, they have claimed 16 hits, with six reaching No. 1: "Hold On," "Lies," "You Don't Have to Worry," "My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It)," "Giving Him Something He Can Feel" and "Don't Let Go (Love)."

https://www.billboard.com/articles/colu ... pel-charts
3/1/2018 by Jim Asker

Plus, Michael W. Smith his 30th Top Christian Albums top 10.

Cory Asbury, of Bethel Music, the musical arm of Bethel Church, scores his first No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Christian Songs chart, as "Reckless Love" lifts 2-1.

The track dominates Christian Digital Song Sales for a third week, hiking 20 percent to 7,000 downloads sold, according to Nielsen Music. "Reckless" is the title-track lead single from Asbury's LP which launched at No. 1 on Top Christian Albums (Feb. 10).

Prior to "Reckless," a male artist last led Hot Christian Songs with a first entry when Sundance Head, the winner of season 11 of NBC's The Voice, debuted atop the list dated Dec. 17, 2016, with "Me and Jesus." That coronation followed Zach Williams' maiden hit "Chain Breaker," which hit No. 1 on Nov. 19, 2016.

Speaking of The Voice, Koryn Hawthorne, a finalist from season eight in 2015, notches her second Hot Gospel Songs leader as "Won't He Do It" rises 3-1. It climbs 2-1 on Gospel Digital Song Sales and 3-2 on Gospel Airplay. Hawthorne first ruled Hot Christian Songs with her version of the classic hymn "How Great Thou Art," which arrived at No. 1 (April 25, 2015).

Plus, Michael W. Smith banks his 30th Top Christian Albums top 10, breaking a tie with Amy Grant for the most among soloists since his first week in the region in 1984, as A Million Lights bounds in at No. 2 with 4,000 equivalent album units. The new LP is the first of two that arrived in as many weeks from Smith, whose worship set Surrounded was released Feb. 23.

Hmm. Surely there has to be a mistake, as her "Brave Enough" was at #5 last week in its 79th week and now it's completely out?

Or is there are rule for old(er) albums?
It went recurrent! 18 months after release (78 weeks).
All the genre charts have recurrent rules, too.
Thank you :D I didn't know about that rule, but that's good, as i always wondered when an album is recurrent

Billboard 200 Chart Moves: MAX's 'Hell's Kitchen Angel' Debuts as Hit Single 'Lights Down Low' Continues to Grow
https://www.billboard.com/articles/colu ... gel-debuts
3/1/2018 by Keith Caulfield

Plus: the “Black Panther” score soundtrack arrives, and also opens at No. 1 on the World Albums chart.

On the latest Billboard 200 albums chart (dated March 3), Black Panther: The Album held firm atop the tally in its second week on the list, earning 131,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Feb. 22, according to Nielsen Music (down just 15 percent). Of that sum, 40,000 were in traditional album sales.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the week’s most popular albums based on their overall consumption. That overall unit figure combines pure album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).

Now, let’s take a closer look at some of the action on the rest of the Billboard 200:

— Moneybagg Yo, 2 Heartless & Kodak Black, Heart Break Kodak – Nos. 16 & 25 — On the Billboard 200, Moneybagg Yo’s 2 Heartless (31-16) and Kodak Black’s Heart Break Kodak (48-25) rise after bowing a week earlier from two days of activity (the albums dropped on Feb. 14). With their first full chart week (ending Feb. 22), the sets earn 22,000 units (up 53 percent) and 17,000 units (up 48 percent), respectively, according to Nielsen Music. The rappers both debuted on the list within the past 18 months, and in that time, they’ve notched a total of nine entries.

— Soundtrack, Zombies – No. 55 — The soundtrack to the Disney Channel TV movie Zombies debuts with 10,000 units (7,000 in album sales). It also bows at No. 1 on Kid Albums — the list’s 30th No. 1 soundtrack from Walt Disney Records.

— Soundtrack, Black Panther: Original Motion Picture Score – No. 64 — The Black Panther score soundtrack, composed by Ludwig Göransson, arrives at No. 64 on the Billboard 200 (9,000 units) and also at No. 1 on World Albums (6,000 in sales). The set, which was released on Feb. 15 via Marvel/Hollywood Records, is only the 10th soundtrack to hit No. 1 in the chart’s 27-year history. The tally lists the top selling world music albums of the week — generally defined as the native music of foreign countries. The chart often includes titles featuring Hawaiian, Cuban, Celtic, African, South American and Korean music. For the Black Panther score, Göransson traveled to Africa to research and record the music, working with African percussionists, a 40-person choir and a 132-piece western classical orchestra on the project.

— MAX, Hell’s Kitchen Angel – No. 154 — Nearly two years after MAX released his Hell’s Kitchen Angel album, the set finally makes the Billboard 200, arriving at No. 154. The set, powered by his hit single “Lights Down Low,” earned 5,000 equivalent album units (up 25 percent) in the week ending Feb. 22, according to Nielsen Music.

Hell’s Kitchen Angel was released on April 8, 2016, and debuted and peaked at No. 7 on the Heatseekers Albums chart dated April 30 of that year. The album’s single “Lights Down Low,” featuring gnash, reached its first airplay chart back on Aug. 12, 2017 when the song arrived on the Mainstream Top 40 tally. Now in its 31st week on the list, it climbs to a new high, rising 9-8. Meanwhile, on the Billboard Hot 100, “Lights” hits the top 20 for the first time, ascending 27-20.

Hell’s Kitchen Angel has earned 166,000 equivalent album units in total, of which just 5,000 are in traditional album sales. Mostly powered by streams, the album has garnered 158.6 million on-demand audio streams for its tracks.

— Prince, The Very Best of Prince & Lionel Richie, The Definitive Collection – Nos. 69 & 184 — An iTunes Store sale promotion on R&B titles yields gains on the Billboard 200 for Prince and Lionel Richie, among others. Following a mark-down to just $4.99, Prince’s The Very Best of Prince re-enters at No. 69 (8,000 units; up 179 percent, 5,000 copies sold; up 345 percent) while Lionel Richie’s The Definitive Collection returns at No. 184 (5,000 units; up 58 percent, 3,000 in album sales; up 148 percent).

— Soundtrack, Coco – No. 185 — Coco climbs back onto the list (5,000 units; up 38 percent) following the digital home video release of its parent film on Feb. 13. The set also jumps 15-10 on Soundtracks and vaults 96-57 on Top Album Sales.

Journey's 'Greatest Hits' Becomes Only Third Album to Spend 500 Weeks on Billboard 200 Chart
https://www.billboard.com/articles/colu ... lboard-200
3/1/2018 by Keith Caulfield

Journey’s Greatest Hits album becomes just the third album to spend 500 weeks on the 61-year-old Billboard 200 chart, joining Bob Marley and The Wailers’ Legend: The Best Of Bob Marley and The Wailers (510 weeks) and the all-time longevity champ, Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon (937).

Journey’s Greatest Hits — which rises 108-101 on the March 3-dated chart — debuted on the list dated Dec. 3, 1988 and peaked at No. 10 on Feb. 11, 1989. The album was a fairly consistent fixture on the chart until it departed the list after Oct. 27, 1990.

The set — boasting classic hits like “Open Arms” and “Don’t Stop Believin’” — returned to the list on Dec. 5, 2009. That was the same week the tally changed its rules regarding the chart eligibility of older (catalog) titles (like the Journey set). From May 25, 1991, until Nov. 28, 2009, catalog albums (18-month-old titles that had fallen below No. 100) were generally barred from the Billboard 200. From Dec. 5, 2009-onwards, catalog sets could chart on the Billboard 200 and rack up lengthy runs on the list — unlike earlier albums that were removed from the tally once they turned catalog.

Relatively recent albums that have notched long runs on the list, thanks to the revised chart rules regarding catalog sets, include Lana Del Rey’s Born to Die (306 weeks, released in 2012), Imagine Dragons’ Night Visions (282 weeks, 2012) and Bruno Mars’ 2013 release Unorthodox Jukebox, which celebrates its 200th week on the new tally.

Drake's 'God's Plan' Hits No. 1 on Multiple Airplay Charts in Record Time
https://www.billboard.com/articles/colu ... ecord-time
3/1/2018 by Trevor Anderson

Drake’s “God's Plan” completes a coup of hitting No. 1 on four R&B/hip-hop-leaning airplay charts in record time, becoming the first song ever to hit No. 1 on Rhythmic Songs, R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay, Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop and Rap Airplay in five weeks or less.

The track hikes 2-1 on both the Rhythmic Songs and R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay charts (dated March 3), with gains of 18 percent in plays and 19 percent in radio audience, respectively, in the week ending Feb. 25, according to Nielsen Music.

In addition to its new dual coronation, “Plan” wins a second week atop the plays-based Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop chart and audience-driven Rap Airplay chart, improving 18 percent on each.

While Drake rules Rhythmic Songs, two tracks from Black Panther: The Album roar into the chart’s top 10. The Kendrick Lamar and SZA collaboration “All the Stars” leads the pair, shooting 11-5 in its seventh charting week with a 16 percent gain in plays in the week ending Feb. 25, according to Nielsen Music. Plus, “Pray for Me,” a Lamar tune with The Weeknd, darts 12-7 and picks up a 23 percent spike in spins for the tracking week.

As the Panther cuts scale the chart, SZA adds a second top 10 on Rhythmic Songs to her resume. Her “Love Galore,” featuring Travis Scott, reached No. 3 last October. The Weeknd, meanwhile, grabs his 13th.

And thanks to his double duty, Lamar collects his 11th and 12th top 10s on the chart.

Frank Ocean's 'Moon River' Cover Debuts in Top 10 on Hot R&B Songs Chart
https://www.billboard.com/articles/colu ... ongs-chart
3/1/2018 by Trevor Anderson

Frank Ocean’s “Moon River” debuts at No. 10 on the Hot R&B Songs chart (dated March 3), giving the singer his fifth top 10 on the chart since it began in 2012.

Ocean's cover of the classic tune -- released on Feb. 15 -- arrives on the list thanks to streams and sales, as it had only a smattering of airplay in the tracking week (ending Feb. 25). In terms of streams, it logged 4.5 million in the week ending Feb. 22, while it generated 9,000 in digital downloads (bowing at No. 5 on R&B Digital Song Sales).

“River” follows Ocean's fellow top 10 hits “Thinkin Bout You” (No. 4, 2012), “Nikes” (No. 9, 2016), “Ivy” (No. 10, 2016) and Ocean’s featured role on Calvin Harris’ “Slide” (No. 4, 2017).

Ocean’s cover of the song, composed by Henry Mancini and Johnny Mercer for the 1961 film Breakfast at Tiffany's, was released on Feb. 15. It becomes the fifth version of the standard to reach a Billboard songs chart. The first two, ironically, became No. 11 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 within two weeks of each other: Jerry Butler’s rendition peaked at the position on the chart dated Dec. 11, 1961, while a version by Mancini stopped at the same rank two weeks later. Despite just missing the top 10 twice, “River” did score other major honors: The song won the Academy Award for best original song in 1962 as well as the Grammy Awards for record and song of the year.

After its original golden era, “River” next showed up on the Classical Digital Song Sales chart through covers by Andrea Bocelli (No. 10, 2015) and 2Cellos/London Symphony Orchestra (No. 7, 2017).

Notably, one of the most famous versions of “River,” Audrey Hepburn's solo acoustic guitar rendition heard in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, has yet to chart. (Mancini's hit single version was with an orchestra and a choir.)

3/1/2018 by Trevor Anderson

Plus: Nipsey Hussle scores his first top five success on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums with "Victory Lap."

Black Panther: The Album produces its first top 10 hit on the Hot Rap Songs chart as “King’s Dead” by Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar, Future and James Blake races 16-10 in its second chart frame (on the list dated March 3).

The tune surges 15-8 on R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs and climbs 26 percent to 21.2 million U.S. streams for the week ending Feb. 22, according to Nielsen Music. “Dead” also re-enters at No. 16 on R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Songs (10,000 downloads for the week) and lifts 43-38 on R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay, rising to 5 million in radio audience (up 16 percent) for the week ending Feb. 25.

With “Dead,” Future scores his 18th top 10 hit on Hot Rap Songs, and Lamar clocks his 13th. Blake and Jay Rock, meanwhile, each make their first visits to the chart’s top tier.

“Dead” also moves closer to the upper region of Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, as it ascends 20-13.

Meanwhile, Nipsey Hussle scores his first top five success on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Top Rap Albums as Victory Lap arrives at No. 3 on both charts (dated March 3).The set opens with 52,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Feb. 22, according to Nielsen Music.

Victory completes a long road to a debut studio album for the California native, who made his Billboard chart debut in 2010 with the single “The Life” on Epic Records. The rapper left the label and produced independent projects and charted mixtapes in the ensuing years, with 2013’s Crenshaw reaching No. 61 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums while Mailbox Money peaked at No. 18 in 2015.

Victory was released through the rapper’s own All Money In No Money Out label in conjunction with Atlantic Records.

Zedd, Maren Morris and Grey crown Billboard's Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart (dated March 3) with "The Middle" (3-1). Zedd scores his fifth No. 1, while Morris and Grey each lead for the first time.

"Middle" tops the multi-metric Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart for a fourth week, pulling in 47 million in all-format radio audience (up 19 percent) in the tracking week; 17.4 million U.S. streams (up 12 percent); 35,000 downloads sold (up 7 percent), and, according to Nielsen Music.

As on Dance/Mix Show Airplay, Morris is the first country act to top Hot Dance/Electronic Songs (which began in January 2013).

Further on a busy Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart, four tracks enter the top 10. G-Eazy and Halsey heave 11-4 with "Him & I," marking the rapper's second top 10 and the singer's fourth. Another rapper, NF, surges with "Let You Down" (12-5), his first chart appearance.

Next, Avicii, featuring Rita Ora, ascends 14-9 with "Lonely Together," the superstar DJ's 10th top 10 and the singer's second. Finally, Zack Martino marches 13-10 with "Hold On to Me," the New York DJ's first showing on the ranking.
