Normani Becomes Third Fifth Harmony Member to Earn Solo Hot 100 Hit
https://www.billboard.com/articles/colu ... lo-hot-100
2/27/2018 by Xander Zellner

5H is the first all-female act to earn the honor since Destiny's Child.

Normani becomes the third member of Fifth Harmony to score a solo Billboard Hot 100 hit, as "Love Lies," with Khalid, debuts at No. 43 on the chart dated March 3.

The group is the first all-female act with three members having charted solo on the Hot 100 since Destiny's Child.

Normani joins former 5H member Camila Cabello and Lauren Jauregui (a member of the now-quartet, with Normani, Ally Brooke and Dinah Jane) in having logged at least one entry under a solo billing.

"Love Lies" opens with 11.7 million U.S. streams and 22,000 downloads sold in the week ending Feb. 22, according to Nielsen Music.

Normani concurrently debuts at No. 12 on the Emerging Artists chart.

Cabello became the first member of Fifth Harmony to appear solo on the Hot 100 in December 2015, when "I Know What You Did Last Summer," with Shawn Mendes, debuted at No. 97, before going on to peak at No. 20. After leaving the group in December 2016, she earned her first top 10, "Bad Things," with Machine Gun Kelly (No. 4 in February 2017).

Cabello has tallied seven total Hot 100 entries, led by "Havana" (featuring Young Thug), which became her first No. 1 on the Jan. 27-dated chart. The song holds at No. 4 on the latest list, while earning a notable honor in its first week atop the Adult Pop Songs chart.

Jauregui notched her first, and so-far only, solo Hot 100 entry as a featured artist on Halsey's "Strangers," which debuted and peaked at No. 100 on the June 17, 2017-dated chart.

Meanwhile, although Brooke and Jane haven't charted solo on the Hot 100, both have made dents on other Billboard surveys. Brooke has earned two top 40 tracks on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart since last year (as featured, with A$AP Ferg, on Lost Kings' "Look at Us Now" and with her Topic collab "Perfect").

Jane has made one solo trip to the Hot Latin Songs chart: "Boom Boom," with RedOne, Daddy Yankee and French Montana, hit No. 24 in November.

Thanks to the debut of "Love Lies," Fifth Harmony is the first all-female group with at least three members having earned solo Hot 100 entries since Destiny's Child.

Kelly Rowland branched out first, earning her first solo Hot 100 hit as featured on Nelly's 10-week No. 1 "Dilemma," which began its reign on Aug. 17, 2002. Rowland has earned 11 solo entries, most recently as featured, with Missy Elliott, on Fantasia's "Without Me" in 2013.

Beyoncé was next, logging her first solo Hot 100 hit on JAY-Z's "'03 Bonnie & Clyde" (No. 4, December 2002). She has since upped her count to 58 solo titles, including 18 top 10s, six of which hit No. 1. (Destiny's Child notched four leaders.)

LeToya Luckett became the third member of Destiny's Child (which she left in 2000) to appear solo on the Hot 100 with the No. 31 hit "Torn" in 2006, her first of two solo entries.

Fifth Harmony and Destiny's Child aren't the only all-female groups to score such a hat trick. Three members of The Go-Go's charted solo: Jane Wiedlin, Belinda Carlisle and Gina Schock (as, fittingly, Gina Go-Go). Labelle's Patti LaBelle, Nona Hendryx and Sarah Dash also all appeared as soloists on the Hot 100.

'Five' To 1: Scotty McCreery Scores First Country Airplay Leader
https://www.billboard.com/articles/colu ... ore-minuts
2/27/2018 by Jim Asker

Singer-songwriter Scotty McCreery notches his first No. 1, among three top 10s, on Billboard's Country Airplay chart, as ballad "Five More Minutes" (Triple Tigers) ascends 3-1 in its 40th week on the tally (dated March 4), gaining by 10 percent to 40.2 million audience impressions in the week ending Feb. 25, according to Nielsen Music. On the Hot Country Songs chart, which blends airplay, streaming and sales data, "Five" holds at its No. 4 high.

"I'd just lost my granddaddy Bill," McCreery recently told Billboard (for an upcoming episode of the Billboard Chart Beat Podcast) of the song, which he co-wrote with Frank Rogers and Monty Criswell. "He was my guy, a cool cat, eighty-five years old, doing cannonballs in the backyard pool. He was awesome, I loved him. Monty was the one who said, 'It's just like you wanted five more minutes with the guy.' I was like, 'That's the song I'm going to write today.' "

The 24-year-old McCreery, from Garner, N.C., won the 10th season of American Idol, donning the crown on May 25, 2011. Notably, the runner-up that season was Lauren Alaina, who achieved her first Country Airplay No. 1 when "Road Less Traveled" topped the chart dated April 22, 2017. She followed "Road" (her sixth entry on the list) with her second trip to No. 1, as featured on Kane Brown's "What Ifs" (Oct. 28).

"Five" is McCreery's ninth charted Country Airplay title. He debuted on the list in 2011 with the No. 15-peaking "I Love You This Big" and followed with "The Trouble With Girls" and "Water Tower Town," which peaked at Nos. 17 and 38, respectively, in 2012. McCreery's next two proper singles became his first two top 10s, both in 2014: "See You Tonight" (No. 8) and "Feelin' It" (No. 10). One additional single, "Southern Belle," McCreery's last for his original label (Interscope/Mercury), peaked at No. 45 in 2016.

"Five" is the lead single from McCreery's third studio full-length, Seasons Change (March 16), his first for Triple Tigers. The 11-song set was produced by Rogers and Aaron Eshuis and finds all songs co-written by McCreery.

McCreery has earned two No. 1s on the Top Country Albums chart. His first set after winning Idol, Clear as Day, opened atop the ranking dated Oct. 22, 2011 (with 197,000 sold), and spent six weeks at No. 1. His follow-up, See You Tonight, arrived atop the list dated Nov. 2, 2013 (52,000), and led for one week. In between, he jingled to No. 2 with Christmas With Scotty McCreery, (Nov. 3, 2012; 41,000 sold).

REXHA TIES 'GIRL' RECORD Hot Country Songs is led for a 13th week by Bebe Rexha and Florida Georgia Line's pop/country crossover hit "Meant to Be" (Warner Bros./Big Machine Label Group). On Country Airplay, the collaboration hits a new high, rising 16-15, up 24 percent to 17.1 million in audience.

When it logged its 11th week at No. 1, the track passed Taylor Swift's "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" in 2012 and 2013 for the most weeks atop Hot Country Songs for a title by a solo female in the chart's 59-year history. Now with its 13th week in charge, "Meant" matches Little Big Town's "Girl Crush" (2015) for the most weeks at No. 1 for a song featuring lead female vocals.

'GOOD' NEWS Luke Bryan banks his 25th Hot Country Songs top 10, and 24th in succession (counting singles promoted to country radio and excluding holiday fare), as "Most People Are Good" (Capitol Nashville) rises 12-10 in its ninth week on the list.

Starting with 2008's No. 10-peaking "Country Man," Bryan's second Country Airplay top 10, all of his official singles have reached the top tier. He enjoys the third-longest active top 10 streak, after Keith Urban (38) and Carrie Underwood (26).

'END' BEGINS Cole Swindell boasts the top debut on Country Airplay, as "Break Up in the End" (Warner Bros./Warner Music Nashville) launches at No. 28 with 6.8 million first-week audience impressions.

The first single from Swindell's upcoming album marks his second-highest arrival on Country Airplay; "You Should Be Here" started at No. 26 on Jan. 2, 2016, and led for three weeks that April.

Drake's 'God's Plan' Joins Smashes by Taylor Swift, Adele & More as One of Most Dominant Hot 100 No. 1s of Last 25 Years
https://www.billboard.com/articles/colu ... t-100-hits
2/28/2018 by Trevor Anderson

The song is the latest rare chart monster to boast twice the weekly Hot 100 points of the runner-up title.
As Drake's "God's Plan" spends a fifth week atop the Billboard Hot 100 (dated March 3), the colossal hit joins rarefied air, becoming a smash so big that it flaunts more than twice as many Hot 100 chart points as its nearest competitor -- the current No. 2, "Perfect" by Ed Sheeran. In essence, "Plan" is twice as popular as the No. 2 song of the week.

Yup, we're getting deep into the numbers in this one.

First, though, there's some fine print to explain: The Hot 100 ranks the most popular songs of the week in the U.S. based on a blend of streaming, airplay and sales data. The chart, which launched on Aug. 4, 1958, began using Nielsen Music's electronically-measured point-of-sale and radio airplay information on the list dated Nov. 30, 1991, which is when our research for this post begins. Since that date, only 20 songs have run away with enough sales, airplay and, since 2012, streaming activity to rule with at least a two-to-one points lead. With 311 No. 1s in that span (beginning with P.M. Dawn's "Set Adrift on Memory Bliss"), a mere 6 percent of all leaders have ballooned to such heights.

Unsurprisingly, the list contains enduring megahits such as Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You," which recorded the first two-to-one points lead. The ballad blasted the competition with a lead of that ratio (or more) for nine of its 14 weeks at No. 1, the most for song in the past 25-plus years.

Elton John's "Candle in the Wind 1997"/"Something About the Way You Look Tonight," meanwhile, claims the biggest ratio lead over a No. 2 song: It debuted at No. 1 on Oct. 11, 1997, with a massive points lead of 17 times the amount of the No. 2 challenger (Boyz II Men's "4 Seasons of Loneliness").

How did John score the most lopsided lead? "Candle," his tribute to the then-recently deceased Diana, Princess of Wales, sold a Nielsen-record 3.4 million physical singles in its first week of tracking. (And remember! This occurred in 1997, before the dawn of consumer-friendly options such as YouTube and digital downloads. At the time, the only way to access a Hot 100 hit on-demand was to go to a physical retail venue and buy a commercially-released single on CD, cassette tape or even 7-inch vinyl.)

With "God's Plan" achieving such double-dominance on the Hot 100, Drake secures his place as the latest all-star to have outscored his competition by at least a two-to-one points margin. Here's the full roster:

Drake Returns to No. 1 on Artist 100 for First Time in Nearly a Year
https://www.billboard.com/articles/colu ... -gods-plan
2/28/2018 by Xander Zellner

He logs his 26th total week on top, second only to Taylor Swift's 36.
Drake returns to No. 1 on the Billboard Artist 100 chart (dated March 3) for a 26th total week at the summit, and for the first time since April 15, 2017. His smash single "God's Plan" spends a fifth week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and BlocBoy JB's "Look Alive," on which he's featured, hits the Hot 100's top five, rising from No. 6 to No. 5.

The Artist 100, which launched in July 2014, measures artist activity across key metrics of music consumption, blending album and track sales, radio airplay, streaming and social media fan interaction to provide a weekly multi-dimensional ranking of artist popularity.

"Plan" continues its reign on the Hot 100 thanks to a major boost from its official video release Feb. 16. The song surges by 35 percent to a massive 101.7 million U.S. streams in the week ending Feb. 22, according to Nielsen Music, becoming just the second song ever to top the 100-million-streams weekly milestone, joining Baauer's viral hit "Harlem Shake" (103.1 million; March 2, 2013).

"Plan" also sold 81,000 downloads (up 45 percent), as it spends a fourth week atop the Digital Song Sales chart, and drew 76 million in all-format radio airplay (up 21 percent), as it zooms to the top 10 (13-8) on Radio Songs.

Drake rises 3-1 on the Artist 100 to rule the tally for a 26th total week. Only Taylor Swift has spent more time at No. 1, with 36 weeks.

Streaming accounts for the majority of Drake's Artist 100 points (51 percent), followed by digital song sales (31 percent).

Rounding out the Artist 100 chart's top five, Ed Sheeran dips to No. 2 after 10 total weeks at No. 1; Kendrick Lamar ascends 4-3; Imagine Dragons jump 6-4; and Bruno Mars holds at No. 5.

Among other Artist 100 moves, Brandi Carlile re-enters at a new No. 12 peak, as her album By the Way, I Forgive You, launches in the top five on the Billboard 200. At No. 13 on the Artist 100, Nipsey Hussle earns the highest debut of the week, as his debut studio album Victory Lap also posts a top five Billboard 200 debut.

Currently running stateside through mid-March, the winter trek grossed $5.6 million from its first six sold out performances with 72,327 tickets sold.

The tour kicked off on Feb. 15 in Tulsa, Okla., with 13,578 fans present at the BOK Center, the city’s 10-year-old arena. The opening performance was the best attended among these first six dates and one of two to top $1 million in sales. Shelton’s Feb. 24 performance at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis is his top grosser with a $1,071,815 take from 13,473 sold seats.

On the road in support of his November 2017 release Texoma Shore, the country star lined up a total of 14 dates at arenas in U.S. markets during the month-long run. Produced by AEG’s Messina Touring Group, the jaunt includes Brett Eldredge, Carly Pearce and veteran Trace Adkins on the bill as show openers. It continues through March 17 with a final performance booked at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.

This is Shelton’s third consecutive year to hit the road earlywith a brief winter run during February and March. In 2016 he played 11 dates to promote the upcoming release of his If I’m Honest album that arrived in May of that year. Last year he launched his Doing It To Country Songs tour in mid-February and played 13 American arenas during a four-week span. Overall gross totals from both previous years topped the $9 million mark based on a sold ticket count that surpassed 150,000.

Ozuna & Cardi B Hit No. 1 on Latin Airplay Chart With 'La Modelo'
https://www.billboard.com/articles/colu ... -la-modelo
2/28/2018 by Pamela Bustios

The song surges 12-1 in its seventh week on the chart.

Ozuna collects his second No. 1 on the Latin Airplay chart (dated March 3), as “La Modelo,” with Cardi B, zooms 12-1 in its seventh week. The track, which earns Greatest Gainer honors, rises a whopping 70 percent in audience in the week ending Feb. 25, according to Nielsen Music, climbing to 16.84 million.

It’s the second song to vault to No. 1 from outside the top 10 in 2018, following Jennifer Lopez’s “Amor, Amor, Amor,” featuring Wisin, which also rose 12-1 (Feb. 3). Prior to Lopez, Don Omar and Zion & Lennox did it a little over a year ago with “Te Quiero Pa'mi,” jumping 11-1 on the Dec. 24, 2016-dated chart.

"I'm super happy with this No. 1," Ozuna tells Billboard. "My team and I have worked extra hard to achieve it. I thank God for everything that is happening in my career, my family and followers for the support, and of course, my friend Cardi B for being part of this. I am extremely thankful with her for giving me this opportunity and working with me on 'La Modelo.'"

Ozuna first led Latin Airplay as the featured act on Wisin’s “Escapate Conmigo,” which spent one week at No. 1 (Sept. 9, 2017), after holding in the top 10 for 16 weeks.

Over on Hot Latin Songs -- which blends airplay, sales, and streams -- “La Modelo” rises 6-5 as the chart’s greatest gainer in airplay. Ozuna collects his fourth top five on the list and his third this year. Concurrently, the track ascends 86-72 on the Billboard Hot 100.

On Top Latin Albums, Ozuna's Odisea spends a 26th week at No. 1, tying with Ricky Martin’s Vuelve for the fourth-most weeks ever atop the 24-year-old list. Only Luis Miguel’s Segundo Romance (29), Selena’s Dreaming of You (44) and Gloria Estefan’s Mi Tierra (58) have more weeks at No. 1.
