CLASSIFICHE TOP OF THE MUSIC: DAL 2018 VARRANNO SOLO GLI STREAM PREMIUM
FIMI, December 14, 2017

Since January 2018, the official Italian system of classifications and musical certifications will consider only the streaming consumptions derived from the subscribed plays

With the arrival of 2018, FIMI announces an important novelty concerning the charts of the consumption of music in Italy and follows the recent integration of listening in streaming in the charts of the albums. After a first test phase and with the aim of attributing a real value to physical and digital consumption, it was decided to consider valid for the purposes of the Top of the Music charts only the paid streams, that is only the plays derived from the services in Premium membership.

Although the free fruition remains very strong, we are faced with a significant migration of users to the premium services and this is a sign of the evolution of the market that you can not ignore. Streaming also starts to represent a mature market segment that in Italy is now worth 44%. In this context, it is even more important to exploit the consumptions so that the sales charts represent a more homogeneous reality.

The novelty will be applied both to the ranking of the albums and to that of the individual and will obviously have effect also on the official certification system of the gold and platinum awards of FIMI.

The conversion rate between download and streaming will remain unchanged for now, but is subject to half-yearly analysis in order to evaluate possible updates with respect to the existing methodology. Currently corresponds, in the case of the single, to 1 download for 130 plays in streaming, while in the case of the albums, it keeps that conversion and the total number of the plays relative to an album title (with cap of 70% on the single most listened) is divided by 1,300.

Something interesting I have come across some time before:

https://books.google.hr/books?id=hSQEAA ... rd&f=false

Grace Jones receives a gold single for La vie en rose, and this is 1978. Back then according to this https://books.google.hr/books?id=hAkEAA ... 22&f=false it was actually 1,000,000 for a gold single.

We are working on this archive. You will have the right data before the end of this year (starting from 2005) and the full archive (from 1995) at about mid 2019.

Thank you zago, your work is always very much appreciated!

I would like to take the opportunity of Year-end charts to highlight what a monster "The Dark Side Of The Moon" by Pink Floyd is in Italy.
The album, counting together all the various editions that came out through the years, is about to cross 600 weeks on the official FIMI album chart; it goes without saying that it's an absolute record. This is how it fared on the year-end charts of the last 15 years:

The Dark Side Of The Moon

Year//Placement in the YEC
2003 - 36
2004 - //
2005 - //
2006 - 75
2007 - 97
2008 - //
2009 - 89
2010 - 73
2011 - 44
2012 - 57
2013 - 63
2014 - 52
2015 - 66
2016 - 77
