Just to let you all know! I will be sendin the 1960's Melody Maker singles charts via attatchments to Andreje. Which he will be (Very Kindly) typing up to post here! The MM top 20, becomes a top 30 on 14 April 1962. It becomes a top 50 on 15 september 1962. It reverted to a top 30 on 1 April 1967. Melody Maker allowed the trade mag `Music Businness Weekly` to publish its top 50 (Which had still been compiled since 1 April 67) from 20 September 1969 to 27 March 1971. I have these fromk 27 Sept to 20 Dec 1969, which I will send to Andreje. I hope to get more of the MM top 50's 1970/71 asap! Alan smith.

Numbers shown inside the brackets identify the Official Chart position for the song on exact week.
I will try to post all the charts, which Alan Smith has been kindly sending me.

Excellent thread!

Although, aren't the dates referring to the survey week rather than the publication week, and doesn't that mean you're a week out of sync with the Record Retailer charts?

UFO NME, Record Mirror, and Disc, all dated their charts a week ahead of the published date, up until the early 60's when all gave publication dates. Record Retailer also did this-but we only see the date of publication on those! If you looked at any 1950's early 60's chart this would be the case! An example= If we take the week of November 5th 1960 The date which all the Music and trade papers had on their covers (Publication date) If you looked at the chart pages you would see `chart for week ending 29th October 1960` This causes a lot of confusion. By 1964 all papers gave chart date the same as publication date!

Great thread.
Thanx, Boro. :D

Well…many of them invisible or visible incomplete on the MM parer sheets, which Alan has posted me. Anyway, I’m not sure if I’m in extreme need of them NOW. At least, until I get all the Official Albums Charts.

Please, let me know, whether the Official Chart positions, which I’ve put into brackets, should be really necessary.
If you don’t care about this info, I will stop to show them, because it takes time.

Personally I don't need them, so if it saves time you can leave them out.

Thanks, cp21!
Truth to say, I ‘ve been spending many hours to copy these out by hand. What really hearten me on to keep on posting this thread are such a replies!
And don’t forget to thank Alan Smith. I might say that I’m just a pensil in his hand. :D

Thanks Andrej, I have Melody Maker charts from MM to the end of 1970. Then I have MM charts via Disc for 1971. From 1972 to 1976 I have nearly all of them via MM, Disc or in Handwritten form. I am looking for Melody Maker charts from 1956, 57 & 58. I could swap charts if anyone can help.
