Your work is excellent, MJDangerous. However, I cannot speak French, so which Country is Pays-Bas?

Also, 'Greatest Hits', by ABBA, in (West) Germany, is not the ABBA Album, that many think it is. The Germans had already made 'The Best Of ABBA', a No 1 Album, in 1975 - but that was not 'Greatest Hits', either. (Both Albums had virtually identical Track Lists, but 'Greatest Hits' never actually Charted in (West) Germany). The Album that reached Number 2 in 1976, was not 'Greatest Hits').

In 1976, 'The Very Best Of ABBA - ABBA's Greatest Hits' came out, in (West) Germany, & that was a Number 2 Album. It confuses many people, as 'Hits Bilanz', the German Album Chart Book, shortened its Title to, 'Greatest Hits' - and that has caused many people to think that it is the Single Disk Album that came out in the UK, USA, etc. It is not - it is actually a 24 Track Double Album, & it has nothing to do with the Single Disk 'Greatest Hits' Album.

Hi again Colin,

First of all, thanks for those positive comments ! Yes you are right about Germany, I decided to include "The Very Best Of ABBA" in Germany with the worldwide release of "Greatest Hits" due to their pretty similar track list, and also because the entire name of the first one is "The Very Best Of ABBA, ABBA's Greatest Hits", I had considered that we can count them as the same album.

Ah, and yes, French language can differ a lot from English! Pays-Bas is the Netherland :)

Hello,
Thanks for your reply, MJDangerous - I never guessed that Pays-Bas was the Netherlands!

Yes, the ABBA Compilation Albums - 1975 too 1976, in (West) Germany, were very confusing. 'The Best Of ABBA' did not have 'Fernando' on it, but 'The Very Best Of ABBA' did. 'Greatest Hits' had 'Fernando' on it too. 'The Best Of', & 'Greatest Hits' were Single Disk Albums, & 'The Very Best Of ABBA' was a 24 Track Double Album. It creates much confusion.

Still - it shows how ABBA were releasing many Compilations, even when they were together - and when they had, had so few International Hits, at the time, too!

MJ Dangerous

Thankyou for that global sales list for Abba. It conincides with my assertion of 100-105m albums so it must be right!!I'll put it up on the ABBA Sales Thread.

Zeuss...and here I was thinking you were an educated man!;=)
It bores the pants of you but you never watched the eurovision songfestival?
I mean you are an ABBA fan!!!!

MJD ...while we are on this topic - why do you refer to USA and UK and not Etats-unis and Royaume-uni? Every other country is French?
not that it is relevant to the thread mind you;=)
(I actually never noticed it before)

Good point! In French chart forums we always refer to "US" and "UK" album/single album chart. Those to initial for both are understand by everyone, just like EU and RU. So I had go to US/UK naturaly.

Technically 'Holland' and 'the Netherlands' aren't the same. The Netherlands includes different provinces eg north holland, South holland, zeeland etc....

ABBA never, at no point ever, outsold the Beatles.

it's virtualy impossible to outsold the beatles.especially for a band like ABBA that didn't sell many albums except some "greatest hits"packages.they weren't big in the states even in the single market.about a dozen of top 10-20 singles can't make the difference.

In terms of albums groups like Pink Floyd,Led Zeppelin, Queen and AC/DC have even outsold Abba.Madonna has sold more so why is it always Abba versus the Beatles
WIth the exception of Madonna, the rest are from the 70s as well.Just take USA and Canada and Zeppelin sold as many albums as ABBA did worldwide(and i am not muliple counting for multiple disc package)

we going on about it thanks to some ****ing idiot at a record company who claims 360 million records and accompanies it with a photo of an "award"
And some, those who failed maths at school, do not seem to grasp that the claim is ****ocks!

I am not a beatles fan (i may be part of a minority here) but do realize their importance to music. There are a few bands who could be considered the new beatles or the beatles of the 70ties - ABBA is not one of them. Buy some records from the 70ties there are a few good ones.

As we weave this web!

It's a 2CD set so is counted twice. It has actually shipped 6 million actual albums.

Has anyone got any estimates for Frank Sinatra album sales? I would say about 80 million and therefore should be on the list somewhere.
