This weeks new numbers takes HOTH ahead of two AC/DC titles, and Led Zep I leapfrogs THREE
Too bad we didn't get new figures for Led Zep II & III as well.

I guess some AC/DC titles might chart when their new album is released. Revenge?

Well, guys and gals.

What should we do with this thread?

Resurrect it or just keep it the way things are now? Just the Catalog chart in the weekly US charts thread?

We may keep this alive by posting a link to @Miguelito's entries in the respective Billboard threads on a weekly basis.
I can do it or anyone of us as a team effort; or M.
What do you reckon?

I know this thread is dead.
But how do we resurrect it without soundscan figures?

^I was posting the weekly Catalog charts here until a certain banned person started complaining about me posting incorrect charts. This complainer (who definitely knew what he is talking about) refused to contact Billboard and instead wanted *me* to make the changes to the Billboard charts when I posted them. The same banned individual then sent me numerous PMs telling me that RIAA certs no longer matter and that I was wasting my time. I hate nothing more than a complainer so I stopped posting in this thread. I do the work and all some people want to do is complain about it.

^^ Ch.:
Sorry to hear about that. However, don't let your work be undermined by some critic's opinion.
However, the charts posted may have a disclaimer saying something like TW/LW/WOC/PK according to Billboard Magazine.
We all know that there are numerous mistakes in Billboard's database and the Pop Catalog Chart is continuously wrong in terms of WOC.
Bollocks, the RIAA is still needed and will not be phased out by swindling physical sales.
My opinion is to continue to post or link the charts here. Sales figures may be posted when released by Billboard; every now and then they still do.

It's now been 2 years since a SoundScan Catalog chart has leaked with release to date sales.

Doesn't anyone here have a contact in the music industry?

^Yes, they are. For long time chart watchers, it's bad news.

SoundScan in the past few years re-adjusted it's RTD ( release to date) totals.

The RTD totals are now from 1993 until today.

My source asked his contact at Nielsen Music and received a confusing answer. I still don't know why they did it.

Look at Pearl Jam's "Ten." In 2014, it was at 10 million. Now it's at 6.6 million.

@chartdata sent me a message on Twitter asking me what he should do with these lower totals. He has not been posting the 1993-2018 totals.

oldbloke here at UKMix is using the 1991-2018 totals.

A confusing mess for pre-1993 albums!

I have another Catalog chart and I'll post it here soon.

Could it be down to them re-evaluating the 1991-1993 period and possibly assuming that that they where wrong in some way at the time in terms of calculations?

Did 1991 only include about 70% of record stores.

From Wiki,
Although most record company executives conceded that the new method was far more accurate than the old, the chart's volatility and its geographical balance initially caused deep concern, before the change and the market shifts it brought about were accepted across the industry. Tower Records, the country's second-largest retail chain, was originally not included in the sample because its stores are equipped with different technology to measure sales. At first, some industry executives complained that the new system — which relied on high-tech sales measurement rather than store employee estimates — was based on an inadequate sample, one that favored established and mainstream acts over newcomers.

If anything, sales should have been higher.

It's true, the earlier years did not account for 100% of the market, but we had actual numbers...

Even if you're missing some of those sales, it is still a much more accurate number.
