I'm rooting for Mélenchon, tbh. I agree with pretty much everything he says.

I like him too, but he's 5th in the polls. There's no way he'll survive the first round.

I just saw that Macron would beat Pen by one point. :-? Absolutely scary

In the first round Le Pen might even win, but for the run-off her chances are very little (either a very low turnout or unstable conditions)

That'd be amazing though. If she can't even win the first round, she'll get destroyed in the second one. :)

I know people there and they all will vote for LePen and they ain't even uneducated, graduated from business schools and stuff so I'm afraid this will be another 2.0 trump story. Hollande really ruined the left legacy while the historical right wing doesn't have a real leadership.

She is gonna win

I feel that with these new populist leaders, polls aren't effective because a lot of people would not want others to know they would vote for someone like Marine in fear of being called racist, xenophobic, etc.

It's what happened to Trump.

I hope everyone that can votes. Here in America, more than half the population does not like Trump

But I will say, she's more poised than Donald, even as she said "France is not burkinis, were Bardot."

This is shaping up to be a very close election, any of the 4 major candidates could still qualify the second round tbh.

^ Come on........... the ones who think he is hot have absolutely no idea about his political agenda. The man just can't make himself clear and can't convince for his damn life. He's lucky to have the media on his side, hence the support from the people who don't even know why they're voting for him. :-?

Praying for Mélenchon to come through.
I've started getting used to the idea that Le Pen will reach the second round, but I can't imagine Fillon would. I'd be disgusted either way.

I don't claim to know much about French politics but I read that's she's tried to banish racism from her party? Even going as far as to remove her own father from the party for that reason?

Her father is extremely right-wing (much more so than her) and has a very bad reputation in France, he's pretty much a joke (in a similar way to how Nigel Farage was seen 10 years ago in the UK). He made it to the second tour in 2002 but after that it was a downward slope for him and he was/is unelectable.

Marine is/was well aware of this and the reason she's been 'removing' racism from the FN and making it seem less extreme is so that she can appeal to the GP in France and not just the FN's long term far-right minority supporters. Banishing her father from the party was a tactical move. No other action so explicitly symbolises her removing the toxicity in her party and her wanting to dédiabolise the party than getting rid of her father - the very essence of the old FN.

Don't be fooled by her, just because she's successfully changed the image of the FN doesn't mean that her and her ideology are any less dangerous. She's just as bad as Trump, and is really just more clever and charismatic than her father.

She'll win the premier tour imo but she'll lose massively in the second tour. The left, centre, centre-right and some of the right will all unite behind the other candidate (probably Macron).
