After generating more than 60 million streams with remixes, Germany’s LCAW (real name Leon Weber) dropped his first original in 2016. Since then, the electronic producer has won a loyal following with soaring bangers like “Man In The Moon” and “Desires.” He should reach an even bigger audience with “Hummingbird,” the first single from his debut EP, Meet In The Middle (due in March). It features UK pop legend Sophie Ellis-Bextor, who returns to the club fold after experimenting with folky sounds on Wanderlust and Familia.

“[It’s] a very personal track with a more downbeat vibe, I think this is one of the main reasons Sophie instantly felt connected to it,” LCAW explains. “Her voice has such a unique character and she added a whole other dimension to what I had made before we met. We had the recording session in a small studio in Notting Hill which hosted writing sessions for the likes of Adele, James Blunt and Lana Del Rey and it felt like there was a very special atmosphere.” The dreamy track introduces the rising hitmaker’s new sound.

“‘Hummingbird’ will mark the start of a fresh style for my music in 2018, a modern approach to disco and funk-infused dance music and I’m very happy that Sophie is part of it.” It turns out she is similarly enthused about the collaboration. “It was great to work with Leon who I think is very talented,” the pop star reveals. “We had a brilliant session and I am so happy with the way Hummingbird has turned out. It’s always exciting making new dance music and I can’t wait for everyone to hear it.” We are excited to premiere the track, which ranks as SEB’s best club moment since 2010’s “Not Giving Up On Love,” below.

This is actually amazing! Sophie's vocals have improved immensely over the years. Working with Ed did her vocals good!

Not bad, but I prefer her solo stuff.

the song itself is just okay, but the drop in the chorus sounds great!

makes me miss her solo dance stuff

This is one of her best collaborative work. Vocally, she sounds better than ever! I'm immensely excited to hear the Orchestral Sessions after listening to this.

She has released plenty of collaborative stuff with DJs/Producers, hasn't she? (not as many as Roisin or Dragonette though)

1. Groovejet (If This Ain't Love) - with Spiller
2. **** WIth You - with Bob Sinclar
3. Beautiful - with Mathieu BOuthier
4. Save Myself - with Brian Cross
5. Back 2 Paradise - with Guéna LG & Amir Arfagan
6. Only Child - with DedRekoning

(not counting the three singles from Make A Scene or that Busface single where she wasn't the main vocalist). Apart from Heartbreak, Not Giving Up On Love and Groovejet, I think Hummingbird is the best of the lot!

This is really good. Happy to hear Sophie on a dance record again.
She really should collaborate with DJ's more often.

Agree with every word! It's good to hear her on a dance track again. I have gotten bored with her more "organic" sound recently.

She recorded two songs with LCAW. But only Hummingbird is being released.

She’d also recorded a song with Roger Sanchez, which leaked a couple of years back. It’s such a shame that Polydor didn’t let Roger release the song... and since Sophie didn’t include it on Make A Scene either, I’m guessing she wasn’t able to walk away with that song’s master. It’s certainly better than Can’t Fight This Feeling for me.

I thought this was a bit weird. I'm looking forward to her orchestral album more.

I think Sophie can find a healthy balance between dance music and her artistic vision

So, apparently, there is a 3-4 minute version of the song that will be released eventually. And the animated music video will be out soon.

That's good news. I was wondering anyway why they didn't at least repeat the chorus at the end of the song too in order to increase the (very short) song length. But for whatever reason they chose a rather abrupt end instead.
